WHY are you here ? (on the board)

ok ... to me it's not totally related to jw life actually, i'm here because i'm used now to chat with people (you know like you go into a cafe and share wathever you want with whoever as this board is very rich and full for immediat interaction), support them, get some support ... i just like that ... also of course it's very interesting at the same time to follow some news and get information that i might spit back to my familly in time to wake them up .... what about you ?

Also to get right up in peoples faces and annoy them like hell.

Not to mention the daily dose of trigger effects that keep reminding me of where I have come from. Its kind of "read em and weep" sometimes. It reminds me to always have a heart for people who are going through the trauma of leaving the WT or who are living with JW spouses/family.

I'm also here to share a smile or a dry sense of sarcasm that may cause people in a dark place in their lives to smile.

I have selfish reasons for being here too....all of you keep me happy and entertained, when something bad happens to y'all it happens to me. While some just refer to these as DBs, I'm quite aware that the real people behind the username are coping with life and the things it dishes out. Everyone needs a hug every now and then.

My irrational fears when I was a JW

i know this because i am remembering things that i use to fear.

here are some examples of irrational fears that i had:.

Jez, sorry these thoughts troubled you in the past, I think only those who have been in doomsday cults like us will truely understand the depth of them.

When I was very young I used to have horrible thoughts of fire springing up from the earth and seperating me from people I cared about. They would be one side of the fire and I would be the other, neither could reach the other side. Weird huh! But not unlike images we used to see in the WT.

Then I had dreams of my sister banging on our door to try and get in while armaggedon was going on outside. We could never open the door! This used to wake me up in a sweat. Geeesh, its amazing how we always see these horrific images rather than seeing pola bears and paradise! I'm glad my kids wont be influenced by the WT images like we were as youngsters.

Birthdays, Christmas

i am confused.... i don't see the biblical call to not celebrate these milestone dates especially if one is for a god that is capable of changing what is generally thought of as a pagan day into a holy one if he chooses to, afterall he created everything.

can someone please give me some examples (biblically) of christ not celabrating any of the "holy days" of the era and what the difference is between the example he set out for us to follow and why we can't celebrate the "holy days" of our era, as well as birthdays?.

Well I only celerbate Christmas once a year so I guess its no big thing (jk).

Birthdays, well if ya dont behead anyone I guess they are alright too.

The Watchtower is fanaticle, they assume that celebrating birthdays is to follow in the footsteps of those people who beheaded others, so if you celebrate a birthday then you are as bad as Herod! . But these same people also celebrated weddings, yet the WT has no prob with this...

Going to my first meeting this morning

hi there i'm new here, my name is fiona i am not yet a jw and have not started to study yet.

i am very interested in doing so but since i am still new to all this i thought i should attend some meetings first.

i am going to my first one today at the kelvin hall in glasgow, i am quite nervous as i do not know what to expect but also excited at the same time since it could be the beginning of a huge change in my life.

Hello Bug, welcome aboard.

Usually the 1st couple of meetings you go to will be meetings where you are welcomed and hugged and also "lovebombed", this experience would be the same if you were attending meetings for the first time at the mormon/SDA or various movements.

Whatever you decide to do I wish you all the best in life, just dont go into things blindly, do your research. AJWRB.org is a good research place to start as is Freeminds.org and the experiences posted here on this board.
