this is a thread from ivillage.
the admission from these women is a real eye opener.
i think it's easier for a mother to be more honest when she's talking to other mothers.
I think this is an "it all depends................" kind of thread.
When they were little, their father out drinking & banging whoever he could find......and all three kids were down with some lousy flu puking all over the house and me? Oh..........I would have loved to trade places with another person who didn't have long hair which had been puked in -------and I had to wear it like that for several long stinking hours because I was taking care of my kids. Kids come first - and they were sick alot - and I was alone alot.
There were MANY times I wish I didn't have kids. Usually within minutes/hours (perhaps even a day) I would come back to the reality that I loved my kids - period.
It was hard, really hard, sometimes. I would never - ever - want to go back. There were good times too.........but some terribly hard years. Some years wouldn't have been so hard if I didn't have three children to raise.
I've often thought that it would have been easier with two kids, one kid......but then I wouldn't have one of them. Who would I give up? None! I love them all - just wish it hadn't been so hard on them and me.
But, they're wonderful adults now. Love them all, so proud of all of them. And very smug that they still call & email me.....and not for money, most of time.
"I wouldn't take a million dollars for any of my kids. And I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for another one." The unknown mother's motto.
Everyone's kids, family, life is different. Live & let live.

sometimes i think that because we jws were so deceived, tricked and flat out lied to by an organization that claims to be the sole representative of god, when we take the step to leave the group we (may) have a tendency to discard god as well, in the process.
i realize also there are those who by their nature (perhaps) and their point of view and ideology, that its just a natural personal kind of evolution that brings them to the point that god doesnt exist.
or, that if he does, it doesnt really play any kind of a roll in their lives.
My psychology professor last semester was speaking about evolution. One outspoken, irritating, student (not me for a change) bluntly asked him if he believed in God. He answered - yes.
She then asked how he could believe in God and believe in evolution?
Not wanting to get swayed from the subject matter of the class, he simply answered: "My personal schema allows it."
I thought that was so cool. In other words, you're personal schema might not allow it. Okay. My personal schema allows it. Okay.
Personally, I'm an agnostic - and not changing anytime soon. There isn't a prize waiting on either side of the fence, imho.

a woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night to.
ask, what are you thinking?
" she doesn't care what you think.. .
Hey gumby,
........women win again.
"Women always have the last word. They live longer." - author unknown at the present.
On a birthday card I saw from one older woman to another:
Happy Birthday
Just what the world needs.
Another fiesty old broad.
the following story appears this morning in the south florida sun-sentinel at:.

fort lauderdale police suspect father killed son, then self in home shooting.
Interesting thread - the problem is.........it's not black & white. leave/not leave.
The average beaten/abused woman will leave 7 to 8 times before she permanently leaves the person who beats her. That's a lot of going back.
Mommie/Wendy posted on this forum that she was a professional and had trained & worked with abused women & children. (She didn't state she was an LPN). When someone posted that their brother had just been thrown down the stairs by his father.........she encouraged the mother to take assessment, and if she didn't have a plan.....to go back with her children to that man. The woman did. However, some other people disagreed strongly. However again, it worked out for this woman until she could figure out what was best in her predicament. Big grey area.
I well remember the WT being studied that a man should never hit/abuse his wife. And the answers given agreed with this until...............Elder Frank Bruce raised his hand and stated "We elders don't want to get into the middle of all domestic disputes. Now.....a beating doesn't include if a man just slaps his wife." (paraphrasing)
And the other elders nodded their heads in agreement. His own wife kept her head down during his answer.

i have found that women do cause men to die early, even if they don't want to they do.
they must gods way making gods of us men in due time.
i love women but i don't like what they can do to a good man namely drive him crazy.
Hey Pepper,
the truth was known women are really Satan and the poor creatures just don't know it.
Yeah................or we could be God and know it. Just the flip side of the coin.
Catch ya later
this topic is largely in response to the topic:.
in one post, i said:one possible reason that both native americans and blacks (then slaves) were treated so badly for so long is that both largely sided with the british in the war of independence.
i guess countries have some kind of giant collective consciousness that takes a while to change.. .
Thanks Blondie for the click, and Edge too.
That's a massive DISSERTATION. Who knew history could be so interesting? FIVE chapters!
As the focus of this dissertation is on the Keetoowah Society, the best place to begin is with primary sources from the Keetoowah Society. The best resources for understanding the Cherokee Nation as well as the Keetoowah Society are through the oral traditions and stories of the people themselves. In traditional culture, history is often transmitted through the oral tradition with religious items such as wampum belts and other sacred items serving as keys to reflection upon the history and cultures of times past. As this history is often elusive to but the best of scholars and in some senses should remain the property of the people themselves, we are often left with the musings of ethnographers and contemporary historians that serve as pathways to primary resources.

I don't have an obsession for America but just have an interest in both history and politics. Things like the war of the roses, culloden, or the battle of salamis would probably not be as vibrant discussions though. - simon
Simon makes a good point. I doubt if but a handful of us could "vibrantly discuss" the European (all those little countries) wars - and the total history behind them.
Kudos to you, Simon. You know more information (and a damn good deal of it correct - even if I do disagree with you sometimes) about United States - I can't say the same about my knowledge of European history. Speaking for myself only here.
And I'll give you another credit. I saw an exchange over on H20 one time about the USA's use of the atomic bomb in Japan during WWII. A poster mentioned it in passing - and the American came in stompin' against "America Bashing". The German man (who had been a child in Germany after the war - and fondly remembered the Americans' feeding him - apologized, and then show the clicks to the evidence behind his comment. When clicks to evidence not proving the American viewpoint were shown by several posters........the American said he just didn't have time to discuss it anymore.....and left the thread. I remember - I was one of the American several posters showing the clicks.
You are a persistent Brit - give you that!
i have been scanning a lot of old pictures from when my girls were small.
(trying to reduce the clutter around here) .
i have been looking at people's faces - jw faces.
I've thought about the pictures I have - or were given to me - very few blank stares. I doubt if the ratio to worldly blank stares differs much. Some people are always going to look blank at gatherings. Bored, irritated, drunk, etc.
The people in my daughter's first wedding were all jw's - the second wedding, none. Same ratio.
The conversations & openess were different - granted. But no high ratio of blank stares.
I've got pictures of get-togethers, other home gatherings, just kids - same ratio. Could be the areas in which we live - or just our individual congregations.
I know several women who will never look you in the eye..........but I know the backgrounds on those women, and suspect it has more to do with that.
I know a couple of worldly women who won't look you in the eye too.
