  first of all, let me say that many, if not most, of my memories of abuse and early childhood were recovered.

  some people feel that this diminishes my experience, or in some way denies what happened.

  i suffered from major depression and was quite suicidal for 2 years before something happened to trigger my memories.

  agree. I believe that there are many elders who would listen and not condemn a victim of pedophilia. The question is, what would they say? What would be the elder's counsel?

  I agree also. And it's great to find an elder who will listen.....as a comforting friend.

  The problem is - jw's and elders are trained that they can give more than just comfort & bible counsel - even though the WTBTS puts in writing "elders will share scriptures." All jw's know that elders do give counsel, etc - and jw's expect that - as that's what the WTBTS *really* teaches.

  Until the plumber elder is wrong - and then the WTBTS says that "all elders are untrained volunteers."

  Then the abuse victim is screwed again.

  sorry i haven't been around lately, it's been months since i've visited the site, i've been a bit of a 'drive-by-poster,' if you will.

  i'm alive and well, the best i've ever been, in fact.

  6 months pregnant, due mid-january 2004.

  it is a rare movie that evokes spontaneous applause from the audience -- twice!

  -- but this one did... and yours truly clapped right along with them.

  a very fine movie with a very good message.

  If you like the background history of Seabiscuit (depression, city & cars) - then you'll like a special they did on the building of the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge - I think it was shown on either the History channel or the A&E channel (could be the same channel for all I know).

  Was fascinating - and occurred almost simultaneously with Seabiscuit. A culture down & out - needing and wanting something to believe in..........and it was achieved in both instances.

  After seeing the movie Seabiscuit - I bought the book. Captivating event.

  I know a lot of posters on this thread have come & gone - but that shows one truth of a good internet forum.............people come & go as they please.

  Particularily for xjw's - this is a fascinating freedom, if we don't like this forum.....go to another. Make your own, watch more tv, whatever.

  OCW - we've ALL enjoyed your posts around here - glad you're around.

  Brummie, I read that you were from a place called Brum or Brumme? Thus, the name, eh? Wherever you're from - you're a welcomed person around here.....and other forums too.

  I'm in South Carolina.

  I know it's awful to say........but soooooooooo glad it didn't hit here. I went through Hugo as a yankee transplant - it was terrible.

  Our business has been so slow this week - we're auto accessories. I think people figure to wait - because it was over a year before all "Hugo cars" could be fixed.
