ABC 20/20 on Molestation

tonight on abc 20/20 starting at 9:00 pm central time, an actress named ann heche discusses with barbara walters the effects of being molested as a child.

he dad is the perpertrator.

a church going man who led the choir, etc.

As for Ann Heche, so she's had men & women lovers. That doesn't make her a wacko, nor does she need to determine her orientation, as Amazing & Joel brought out. Good lord, just how many married husbands/wives leave their mates for same sex relationships? People change, get honest, whatever you want to call it.

As for her molestation - very few people want to take on the complications it causes in teenagers and adults. Kids who act out? Ok, we'll deal with the little folks - they're still pitiful and cute.

Adults - time to move on, get on with your life, take control, don't think about it, act like an adult.......the triteness keeps on rolling. The more people who speak up - the less other people will try to condemn them, imho. Perhaps they'll concentrate on the molester instead of thinking the molested is just wacko.

This has everything to do with the WTBTS - because they are being found out as a haven for pedophiles - and this is just one instance of some of the aftermath of a pedophile's illegal "dallying." This is what happens to innocent jw kids too - they end up screwed by everyone!

I hope Ann Heche finds some peace with herself. That's hard enough to do, with/without throwing in sex with your dad for a long time, and your mom rejecting you for talking about it.

A Question. Your Help Requested!

there is something that i am not clear about in my mind, so i would much appreciate some input on this 2 part question.. i keep reading posts from persons who are desperate to leave the jw's.

however, almost without exception, these persons state that they will be shunned by their families and friends.

so, my first quesion is: do you mean that you will be officially disfellowshipped by the elders of your congregation if you simply opt to leave?.

This is the policy stated on JW-Media:

#1 Do you shun former members?

Those who simply cease to be involved in the faith are not shunned.

In compliance with the Scriptures, however, members can be expelled for serious unchristian conduct, such as stealing, drunkenness, or adultery, if they do not repent and cease such actions.

#2 Disfellowshipping does not sever family ties. Disfellowshipped members may continue to attend religious services, and if they wish, they may receive pastoral visits. They are always welcome to return to the faith.—1 Corinthians 5:11-13.

#1 - The WTBTS is not answering their own question in the first part. The question dealt with "former members."

Their answer deals with "those who simply cease to be involved." Someone who ceases to be involved is still a member - not a former member. Therefore, they're not shunned because they're still, technically, a member.

#2 That is a technically correct answer. As, I believe, Seeker brought out - df'ing does not sever biological "family ties." You still have a mother, father, daughter - they just won't talk to you.

Leaving or not

the thread about people leaving has made me think of the 7 years i have been on the net and participated in various witness and ex-witness e-mail groups or discussion boards.. in these years i have seen many a person, which for various reasons come and go from such forums.

there are of course as many opinions as there are people and in such diverse groups there will always be debates about every conceivable subject there is.

people who come out of the watchtower society seems as a group particularly ill equipped to deal with disagreements and strong debates but of course some more than others.

What people would you like best to associate with? Those faithful Watchtower people or the people on this board? I know what I would prefer.

Interestingly, that is exactly how the WTBTS would put it. Do you want to be like those Sons of Satan Apostates or imperfect, trying to be faithful, people like us?

It's still black/white - from which ever side written.

Perhaps the answer still eludes many of us because we're still here on this board - and not fully out in society - where it's not so black/white.

You're right, many forms of communication. In different areas of the usa, what's insultive to one is perfectly acceptable to another. In some areas, perfectly acceptable to bitchslap your woman, child, mother - in another, just wouldn't be done, a frown will do. That doesn't make either totally right or wrong to both persons involved.

But if the bitchslapper and the frowner ever want to communicate, they had better find a common ground to speak from. And that means giving on both sides - the great grey area.

I think that's what this forum needs - a great grey area where we can try for common manners found in most parts of the world.

A common ground with common manners to discuss/argue ideas, thoughts, instead of trashing the person.

He mentioned to the whole body how a brother in the circuit, roomed at bethel with some one high up in the organization and when he was sleeping the person had anal sex with him, while the brother claims he continued to pretending he was asleep and never turned him in.

A young man used to work for us who had just come home from Bethel, about 1985 (been there several years) handsome, very *manly* - even redneck. All kinds of the usual drinking, partying, etc., stories. But he had a *thing* about homosexuals, would imitate them in cruel jest almost constantly. We'd tell him to stop, ignore him, whatever. Then I started telling him about the old saying; "Methinks he protests too much." - and what it implied about him. He shut up.

One story he laughingly told about Bethel was that his roommate had had another roommate before his arrival. He had beaten the young man so badly - the boy had ended up in the infirmary, and was then sent home.

The beater? Well, he had to go to the brother who oversaw such things, an elderly brother. When asked why he beat the young man up, the roommate said: "Here I had been rooming with him for a year and he finally decides to tell me he's a fag."

The older brother laughed and said, "If I had been rooming with a fag for a year and didn't know it, I'd beat the hell out of him too." The beater was never disciplined any further.

As I said, the antique stores pulled upon my heart strings more than the org by then. My husband & I would shuffle out asap - never saw the baptisms. Besides......if you've seen one newbie being dunked, you've seen....well, 2 to an assembly anymore, eh?

Beautiful *Baptismal Pool* however. Gotta say something nice at this point.

Btw, you might have noticed us......we were the ones who always came back after the afternoon session had been going on for an hour or so. Just cruise right in. My husband's parents would be so irritated with us - but they rode with us, so didn't say much.

Numerous cans! And.........did you know that you can put it on a cut and the cut will "heal damned fast." I KNOW that we have at least 4 cans of the stuff around.

You get freaked out when people on the subway talk to you.

I'm originally from Indiana, visited my NY aunt when 15. Walking near subway, someone made eye contact with me, I smiled and said hello. My aunt was stunned......asked me why I spoke to that person, told her why......and she told me *never* to do that again - as people would think I was strange or "wayward."

I thought she was so strange, but didn't smile or speak to strangers in NY again - that trip.

1. i was born and raised in south georgia.. 2. my favorite subject in school was math.. 3. i was in the fulltime service (bethel and pioneer) for 4 years.. 4. my favorite color is blue.. 5. mitch and i have been together over 12 years.. 6. we live in a suburb of atlanta georgia.. 7. we love to eat out and have friends over for dinner and board games.. 8. the only sport i was ever any good at is tennis.. 9. my favorite tv show of all time is the simpsons.. 10. we are both naturists and wish we could lay on the beach naked every day.

You make good points - and it was not my intention to intrude on private matters. Andee was speaking out, and I responded.

But if people with unique situations don't know about other people with the same unique situations - how can they reach out, if they would like to?

The same with incest survivors and their families. Sometimes we want to talk, other times, we just want to appear *average.*

Over the years, I've found that there are really a relatively small amount of *average* people.

I hope you're adjusting to the baking sweetpie and NY? Hope so.

this is a bit lengthy, but is a very big issue with me, and that is the issue of women's rights.

i do agree with women allowing their husbands to make a final decision, being on how women think with their hearts and men think with their heads, making choices often times more logical ones.

but, the husband according to god is supposed to love his wife as his own flesh.

In our southern usa area, there is definitely an extreme. As in food arrangements for funerals.....sisters provide the food - but there's a brother assigned to oversee it.

A rare congregation get together? Approved by elders. A get together for kids sponsored by a group of mothers? Elder approval before hand.

One instance I found telling about jw women's status locally. In all KH, attendants are all males. I was under the impression they were supposed to help people - not just find seats, etc.

A sister in our hall came with 4 kids faithfully (husband not jw). Her teenage son got sick and tried to make it to the bathroom. He did not -and vomit spewed at least 8 foot long down the isle. She rushed back to the backroom to help him.

The rest of us tried to pay attention to the WT study conductor, who kept on going. Shortly, I looked back and the mother was on her hands and knees cleaning up the vomit with paper towels. I got up, went to back, and found several other sisters getting mops, buckets, etc. About 5 of us cleaned up the mess - after we made the mother stop and go attend to her son. No attendants, no brothers ever asked if they could help. We were all in dresses, straight skirts, high heels.

I was furious and afterwards went looking for an elder. Of course, he didn't know anything about the situation - the smell alone would have knocked over a horse. I complained loudly about the attendants not even offering to help us as I thought that was their job - to help. He said "Not really. They're assigned to help with seating and emergencies."

I gathered 8 foot of vomit, 5 sisters on their hands and knees, an ungodly stench among 175 people, and a sick kid was not deemed an emergency. I also suspect they felt this was a job for women as we were trained to clean up vomit & shit and be on our hands and knees.

Btw, the only brother who commented on this was the Guest Speaker, who was sitting right next to the vomit. "Did you see the size of those pineapple chunks? That kid must have swallowed them whole!"

I responded, "Yes, I did. I was the one scooping them up with my hands." He never got my sarcasm.

You give the impression that you believe women are empty-headed pieces of fluff who couldn't make a sane decision if their lives depended on it, and that men are our saviors, ready to shelter us from the tough calls in life. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!

Naaaaaa, don't be too rough on Moe. Every woman should know by now that men aren't our saviors - we have other ways to entertain ourselves.

Moe started a thread about something else and it just backfired a little. We've all done that trick before! Dave said it best up above (on page 2 I believe). Maybe go back and read it again? Made me sit back and chuckle.
