my girlfriend's dad who is 82 lost his second wife to cancer last october.
while she was dying, he secretly was seeing another woman, in her 60s.
long story short, a month after the wife's death, they both moved in together and in early june , they secretly got married.
When I was a JW, a friend of mine lost her mother to cancer and her father was also suffering with cancer. Within a couple of months, a "sister" in the congregation hooked up with her dad and married him.
It caused great distress for my friend because this new wife told them that according to JEHOVAH, the 32 year marriage with her mother and raising a fmaily and children meant nothing.....NOTHING.....and her new marriage with the father was the bottom line. The new wife then abandoned the father with cancer, spending weekends away from him and denying his daughter the right to care for him during his illness. She inherited all his worldly possessions AND his pension.
This JW teaching that a 30+ year marriage with children means NOTHING to God if a new wife comes along.....is horrible. My friend went through hell, she cried as she asked me who her dad would ask for when he was resurrected - her mother or this new wife who didn't give 2 hoots about him......I told her if he was resurrected, his first thoughts would be of his first wife and his children and grandchildren. The new wife could go to hell, as far as I was concerned.
It was one of the things that made me question the organization's "legality" issues.....seriously? Where is the humanity?

I think our UK members are miles ahead of the rest of us.
after a one year sucessful fade and no longer associated with any congreation, i was visiting my sister this week (who goes to the meeting to please her husband for now; i am slowly planting seeds though) and they decided to year this weeks midweek meeting via the telephone.
since i was a guest in her house, i sat with them in the living room to hear the meeting.
to my surprise (especially growing up as a gay jw with still alot of anger in my heart over how i was treated), the talks 2 and 3 where on, of course, homosexualiy.
If I followed the WT, I would have nothing to do with my children. My son is tattooed and my daughter is a lesbian.
I would be missing out.
My daughter has been in a relationship for 3 years and it has been good for her - her partner brings out the best in her, they are loving and kind with each other and with others. I consider her partner my daughter-in-law.
Really, what more could a parent ask for, in regard to their children? That they are in a happy and loving relationship with someone who cares about them and brings out their best and they are contributing members of society?

since it is the convention season (and i am not attending this year or ever again), and i have been seeing other posts about some of the goings on at the various ic's and rc's, i am reminded of some of the truly embarrassing behavior i have "witnessed" (pun intended) over my lifetime of being a jdub at the various conventions and assemblies.
probably the most disillusioning experience at a convention that i have ever had was one year when i volunteered to be an attendant.
all of the volunteers were asked to attend a special meeting a few months beforehand to get instructions for our duties as attendants.

Yes, because then you can grimace and shake your head disapprovingly at all the families with little children who have to use the bathroom during the sessions.
