  Bethel Antiquarian Books: Who Buys?

  hello all; a question:.

  the internet vendor, bethel antiquarian books, publishes a price list of old and rare wt publications, not a few of which cost several hundreds of dollars.. my question is on the strength of demand for such material: who buys these things for such prices, and who sorts out the relative scarcity of each so as to establish a fair market value?

  i would love to have a copy of the 1934 yearbook with rutherford's embarassing declaration to hitler, but gag at paying $300 for one.

  A Legal org to represent former JW issues?

  several issues, such as the un matter and others requiring comments to the press could possibly be better served if there were a small body of qualified individuals, including lawyers and other professionals and others that were former witnesses extremely well versed in jw issues.. comments to media, governments and various organizations on matters such as blood, child custody, child abuse etc would carry more weight coming from an "offical" organization.. in the former jw community there are many with good intentions but often find themselves making inaccurate or unrestrained, poorly worded or overly sensational comments.. these sorts of comments set the former witness community back and sometimes give credence to the labels placed upon us.

  on the other hand, well worded, accurate statements made with a knowlege of how the wt pr machine works can effectively tie their hands and force the wt to make changes.. with this in mind, what is the viability of such an association to represent former witnesses?

  it need not matter whether one is a christian or athiest or whatever, as the purpose would simply be to comment and investigate and expose wt policy.. i am sure this has been tossed around before.

  I can see the same talk back in 1879...

  We can make a legal organization purporting nothing but simple bible truth :-)

  WT/UN/Self-fulfilled Prophecy?

  i was wondering if anyone has been wondering what i have been wondering.

  it seems to me the wt likes to read the bible and then pick out scriptures to make self-fulfill.

  if they for the last 10 years have been a member of the un as an ngo to secretly recieve the benefits of that position, they are also using the current events to further their image as the "true" religion.

  Interesting thought..

  I'm sure the WT will try every 'spin' tactic they can on this one, but I think that the more press this has, the better..

  Bottom line is they claimed it was the wild beast while being secretly associated with the wild beast..

  No matter how they try and spin this one away, I think any publicity to that effect will result in ALOT of 'seeds' being planted..

  And by they themselves dissasociating with the DPI, they are basically admitting that something is 'wrong' with the association in the first place.. That tooo needs to be publicized..

  As long as we can get hard evidence of their voluntary association with the beast, and then hard evidence of their voluntary disassociation with the beast 10 years later, I think no matter how hard they try to spin it, it's still gonna come up a doubght in the mind of the average JW..

  MAJOR UN/WTS/NGO NEWS - WTS IS GONE

  as of 11:45 this morning (i had a telphone call this morning with the refernce department person named holly at 212-963-7234), i can tell you that the watchtower has disassociated itself from the united nations dpi!!!!!!.

  the dpi is now taking them off the list.

  the dpi requested the list removal to be done this morning!!!!!.

  ray franz is a liar, thank god for that, because if he was not...... few bodies of people on this planet have more hope vested in the term truth than the wts.

  by this term they divide the world between the living and the dead, the good and the bad, and seek to build the garrotes of exclusivity around their empire.. yet, it has been repeatedly noted that on an individual basis the average jw has, not a respect for truth, but a fear of it.

  this is quickly established by asking some of the many embarrassing questions that frequently surface on boards such as this.

  My guess is that this person hates apostates because somehow someway in the recent past an apostate planted the seed of doubght in his/her head, and he/she cannot get it out!!!!

  How do you deal with these Witness people?

  please forgive my language in this post but i'm at my wits end and pissed as hell.

  my name is kevin and my partner who was a poster on this board was jonjonsimons.

  today jons dad showed up at our house.

  I'm sorry to hear of JonJon's death, and even more sorry that his father is being a total asshole about it..

  My personal advice would be to very politely call his father and let him know that JonJon's final wishes were for you to be the executor of his estate, because you and he shared a life together, and for 20 years his father didn't want anything to do with JonJon..

  You don't expect his father to agree with the life style, but then again, as a JW, you claim that you are NOT prejudice in any way, so you should at least respect JonJon's wishes. You also were there many times when JonJon cried himself to sleep over the hurt you caused him.

  Wish him a good day, and tell him that if he does stop by again, or has anyone else stop by, you will call the police again, and have a restaining order issued against them. You hold no contempt towards him, but he hurt JonJon very badly and he didn't care then, so why do you care now all of a sudden?

  You just want his material posessions.

  JonJon didn't mean anything to you for 20 years, so why should his posessions mean anything to you now?

  Of course, then you should hit him with the polite, I thought JW's weren't materialistic.. Better go confess to an elder or something <G>..

  If he calls back, or shows up again, call the police...

  I'd be very polite, but very firm in the phone call...

  Regaurdless of how you handle it, my thoughts and prayers are with you..!!!

  WTS - UN/NGO = Damage limitation started

  i could kick myself about all this.

  i read the guardian every day and yet monday, because i was late for work, i didn't bother to buy it.

  now i can't help thinking, if only i'd bought a copy on monday, shown it to my family (innocently, of course) and then let them have their own doubts.

  "The truth is out there"..

  I don't think even the WTBTS can cover up something with the UN.. There are documents, and hopefully the UN itself will still acknoledge via phone (followed by documentation preferably) that the WTBTS was indeed a voluntarily associated NGO from 1991 to 2001..

  If the above happens, then the question to ask the witnesses would be why did the Watchtower suddenly resign their position as an NGO in 2001? Why did they cover it up for 10 years? How come the GB knew about it, allowed it to go on for so long, without a peep to the R&F, and then suddenly withdraw when people started asking questions about it?

  I dont' think all is lost, and I'm confident that people working on this issue will get the concrete evidence to show R&F if they are sooo inclined to listen to the evidence...
