I don't know, Craig. It seems there have been natural pendulum swings back and forth since the 50's. In 1968 when the Truth Book came out, there was a big push to get Bible Studies baptized in a hurry. That's also about the time they cracked down on dating (don't pair up until you're ready to marry). Perhaps it was because I was dating at the time, but it felt like the grip was tightening even then.

How many members on here in total, & q about pre-1975 jws
by gypsywildone ina long story condensed in order to keep private things private, but first of all, how many active members are on here now?
second of all, were the pre-1975 jws less hard core, would you say?
is that around the time they "stepped it up"?

Other than the one line in the one newspaper story, is there any confirmation that this piece of crap was an active JW? Anyone know the congregation? Any statement from the elders?? Was he a prison conversion?

they are in our territory
by Mulan ini learned today that a group from california is in our area working "seldom worked territory".. my jw friend told me to watch for them as they are in town working their territory.
it all made me laugh.
they aren't in montana, or north dakota, they are in edmonds/lynnwood washington.

Mulan, you've GOT to be kidding!! Most of the Greater Puget Sound area gets worked every other week or so. There were territories in my neck of the woods where the householders knew us by name. We'd knock on the door and they'd look at us like, "Sheesh, YOU again??"
Here's an idea: let's go work Honolulu, where the need is great...for a Mai Tai!

question about marriage?

JW's get into a real conflict because they do yet do not recognize the State role in marriage.
For example: A couple is granted a legal divorce by the State, yet no adultry has been committed, so they are not free in the eyes of the Society to marry anyone else.
That same couple gets back together, and has sex. Even though their marriage was not dissolved scripturally, the State has legally ended their marriage...thus they are not free to sleep with each other.
So, by this duality, the JW leadership has created a state of perpetual limbo for two people who just don't want to be together anymore. Even worse, sometimes one marriage mate might have "Scriptural grounds" for separation - physical abuse, spiritual endangerment, willful non-support. The non-offending mate can (thankfully and finally) get away from the abuser, but he/she is not free to pursue a relationship with anyone else.
It is assumed healthy, sexually able adults are to remain in a state of celabacy until the other partner screws up - literally.

I have a peticular fondness for golden Labs. He's beautiful! I wish I lived closer so I could take him for a run sometimes. They are such a loyal and friendly breed. If only I had the life-style, I'd have one myself. Because I am gone so much of the day, I opted for a cat. She's sweet and affectionate, and if she ever sees this post, I'm in big trouble!!!
