  will the overwhelming media attention generated by last tuesdays events and the eminent threat of war divert attention away from the importance of the upcoming dateline expose?

  Of course I agree - it's completely appropriate that attention be shifted to a matter affecting the entire world. Along with everything and everyone else suffering, I regret that those who have worked so hard recently to bring about reform will now have their efforts put on the back burner....for now.

  After looking at the pictures Tally and others have brought up, it seems the WT has yet another ugly skeleton in its closet to hide. I wonder how the intelligence community would view those pictures? I further wonder how the FBI would respond to YK's "innocent wager"?

  Will the overwhelming media attention generated by last Tuesdays events and the eminent threat of war divert attention away from the importance of the upcoming Dateline expose? If the world media is completely focused on the unfolding events of this conflict, I worry that a story about a little-known religious group harboring pedophiles may be overlooked.

  While I understand the global and immediate impact of this tragedy, the plight of Silent Lambs should not be diminished.

  SL: have you been in touch with your sources since this happened?

  Danny: I'll answer your one question and then I too am content to let the matter die. I don't see much movement on either of our parts. If you or TeeJay have the need to get in the last word, it is yours. I won't come back and take that from you.

  You say I gave a "group hug" to those who agreed with me. Let me show you what I wrote at the end, in case you missed it:

  Thanking the posters who displayed kindness to those in need is just that: a thank you. Do you see the distinction?

  I also was careful to say the words were ugly, not the people who wrote them. I understand the volitile emotions during the hours and days following this terrible tragedy. I regretted - and still do - that some let their violent and hateful nature overcome their reason. I have every right to express my distaste for expressions of hatred and my admiration for words of calm and reason. (I was about to ask if you agreed with me, but that would be another question you felt a need to answer... and then we'd NEVER be done with this )

  I think Amazing's illustration of being hit with a hammer is a good one. I don't think it's wrong to hit back if someone hits you with a hammer. Just don't go around hitting everyone you see with a hammer and hope eventually you find the right guy.

  You say my post offended some. Expressing a strong opinion often causes those who disagree to take offense. If neither of us ever said anything, just because we thought someone might be offended, this would be a very bland board. From what I have read of your posts, Danny and TeeJay, I don't think either of you operate on that premise.

  Danny: thank you for expressing your thoughts.

  I've had a good night's sleep and would like to offer a final comment to all of you who responded to my post.

  I sincerely hope Danny was not referring to me as a "self-ordained monitor" of people expressing their views. I certainly implied no such thing, nor did I EVER at any point offer blanket "hugs" to those who want peace. (where did that idea come from?)

  In truth, I respect both positions. What I was ashamed of was the blatant hatred and anger expressed towards each other. The examples I used (admittedly out of context) were those I thought representative of the varying reactions of people. I saw some extremes which frightened me. "Glass Parking Lot", "Execution" are terms that should cause us all to take a deep breath and think about what is behind such words. Yelling "Shut Up!, Shut Your Mouth!" to people we disagree with isn't helpful either, and I think you'll notice I did nothing of the sort.

  Moe keeps saying she has a right to her opinion. Well, guys, so do I. I don't happen to agree with those who are in a rush to go to war, but I certainly understand that sentiment better than those whose violent nature cannot even wait for state-sanctioned action. Today, in my city, a cab driver wearing a turban was choked.

  For the record, I am not a pacifist. If my way of life is being threatened, I'm willing to fight for it. If innocent lives of people other than Americans are being threatened, I'm for getting involved there, too.

  I stand by my original idea that shouting hateful words is ugly. But then, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

  I believe you have misunderstood me. I can't speak for Ginny.

  I never indicated there was not an appropriate time to take action against murderers. I only found hatred and unfounded anger to be ugly. People were expressing violent thoughts against those who merely disagreed with them on this board. Others called for bombing people before the facts are clear. Once again, I am not passing judgement against you. None of the quotes I used as examples (and I did not name posters) were yours. I find it strange that you should champion the cause of those who call for extreme measures.

  I disagree with your statement: "...there is no inbetween on this one." If the extremes are kill the first thing that makes a good target or do nothing - there certainly is a middle ground.

  Danny: I still don't get where we disagree.
  People shouting "shut up" at each other; calling to execute each other; saying they are armed and will kill....how can you possibly defend such statements?

  Yet you say I should excuse it based on their motivations. Fine, let's do that. In the same line of reasoning, can you understand why Ginny would try to humanize those people in Arabic countries who might not be involved in acts of terror?

  I'm saying that I saw some disturbing comments from posters here. Extreme, frightening, angry, violent. If you don't find that ugly, then we must agree to disagree.

  These words have endured for a reason; they are an example of poetry in the style of contrasting and balancing ideas. To re-write them to suit your purpose diminishes the original purpose: presenting both sides of an issue. Perhaps some need to remember this point.

  Where in my post did you get the idea that I was a pacifist? If calling for a reasoned and measured response is pacifism, perhaps you would redefine the word?

  Do you know who my "friends" are?

  It's obvious you do not understand my post. I doubt I could do anything to help you. Ugliness can take many forms. Striking out and inflicting harm without knowing the facts is ugly in my opinion. We're talking about bombs and bullets, not words. I assume you know the difference between words on a screen and explosions in your house.

  It's very interesting that you of all people are advising me to "lighten up." I've not seen that from you. Your posts are among the more passionately stated; in the brief time you've been posting here, you've expressed your beliefs stridently and often peppered with colorful language.

  I think as you grow and mature as a person, you will learn to temper your passion and direct it in useful ways.
