  How to handle invites to dinner after Sunday meeting?

  i have not been to a meeting for over a year.

  yesterday, when my wife returned from the 1 day assembly, i got an invite for dinner next sunday.

  i said i would think about it, to be honest, as nice as the people are, it would just be boring listening to their comments about everything jw.

  I have just recently had not one but two " brothers" call me I have not heard from them in years and suddenly they both contact me. My daughter says she has heard that this is a " beckoning back" initiative by the organisation, has anyone else heard this? Have I missed something?

  i just love the statement "instead of eulogizing the deceased, use the material in this outline to give a fine witness concerning the truth.

  " in other words, utterly disregard the deceased.

  Our old PO,s wife died recently and she asked for a " private" funeral because she said she disliked the way funerals were conducted at the hall with barely a mention of the life and works of the deceased instead it was used as a public talk. I liked that woman. It got right up their noses!

  I may have a friend

  okay, i am almost forty and outside of my wife i haven't had a friend in decades.

  sure i have tons of people with whom i am friendly towards, but they all share something to do with work or business.

  i remember thinking last year i had no one who called just to talk.

  Love this thread, when I joined this forum 2 years ago I was in a very bad place and everyone responded positively, then I was pm,d by a lovely lady in America and we are still good friends,she walked along side me until I came out of the tunnel, and now I have rejoined the human race, I have found friends all around me here in this small town and I help out at the local school. I am a completely different person because of all of you here on this forum and I will always be grateful to all of you. There are friends to made all around you,so never turn an invite down! Good luck to all of you.x

  finally after five years i have finally shut the door very firmly on the witnesses.

  i have had this "sister" calling for over the last six months clearly trying to reactivate me,but never mentioning the reason why me and my family left the forfar congregation two years ago.

  it was always any subject but the " elephant in the room" well today was the finale.

  Yes Galaxie, it is indeed Forfar congregation, a place that kindness forgot :) I think its the bridies that sends them all mad :) Now I remember a time when I would have been to scared to mention this lot by name but now I take enormous pleasure in " naming and shaming" ;)

  Finally after five years I have finally shut the door very firmly on the witnesses. I have had this "sister" calling for over the last six months clearly trying to reactivate me,but never mentioning the reason why me and my family left the Forfar congregation two years ago. It was always any subject but the " elephant in the room" well today was the finale. Story too long to tell, but I asked her to leave my house and not come back and the look of sheer disbelieve was something I shall never forget. She was astounded as I politely but firmly helped her into her coat,thanked her most kindly for her visits and suggested that she find it helpful to all of us not to come back. Oh the joy as I shut that door on her. Happy happy day :)

  My life by the numbers..

  i have enjoyed this site long enough, that i thought it was time to start giving back.

  it's been a reflective few days as i tried to quantify the passage of time.

  how time flies.... i turn 55 this year- and life is amazing!it was last year i reached out to one of my siblings via email to see if i could visit my mom beforeshe passes as she is over 90 now and the response i got was that it was too painful for herto see me until "i do the right thing"it was 5 years ago that i was able to finally become whole from all the anger and pain and normalize my life.it was 33 years ago that i was df'd.

  Oh what a lovely expression of a calm and happy good life with the freedom to choose and taking what comes when, because were human,sometimes the choices we made were perhaps not so wise. Oh well done you! Carry on spreading and sharing such warmth and sweet content.

  Very disturbing viewing. I felt for that emotionally vulnerable young man,poor lad just wanted to be with his Mum. Reinforces my belief that we did the right thing getting out JWs,just another manipulative bunch of creeps getting off on the power over others.
