  lets say you were born prior to the 20th century and found yourself on the titanic on the night of april 14, 1912. your a male.

  Ashitaka,I`m not disputing the fact the baker lasted a long time in the water, or the eyewitness accounts of the mans survival, what I am disputing is the REASON why he lasted as long as he did. I mentioned in one of my posts that bodyfat is one factor that could help or hinder a persons chance of survival in a cold water dunking. Mary has a hard time believing this and counters with the argument that there were probably lots of overweight people and many of them died within the 1st 1/2 hour so the bodyfat factor is not believable.Well, in the same line of reasoning, out of the 1500 people that did die I`m sure MANY of them WERE drunk as can be, with 'natural antifreeze' running through their veins , tell me why then we have only heard of one miracle survival story ( That being the baker.) I would counter that if more people laid off the booze during those key final moments then maybe the death toll would not have been as high as it was. If any of us happen to be in a situation where we are faced with a cold water dunking PLEASE empty the hard liquor in the waters around you NOT down your gullet, it won`t help.

  Mary, your theory is just that.. a theory. My "theory" as you call it is based upon science and many years of belonging to search and rescue unit. I know what I am talking about because I have seen it first hand. Please look into hypothermia on a search engine and then maybe you will see the facts. A person with alot of bodyfat have more insulating qualities than those with less, which will help to a degree when faced with a cold water dunking. Being able to retain your bodies core temperature is the # 1 key to survival. I have seen portly type people pulled out of cold water that are barely shivering and smaller framed people with little bodyfat shivering so hard they could barely speak. Shivering is the bodies way of creating heat which it does to protect vital organs. Having excess bodyfat is by no means the only thing that will help save you but it is a factor . All booze does is lower inhibitions and hastens the effects of hypothermia. You give the example of hard liquor not freezing? So what? I`m not sure how much alcohol you would have to mix with blood for it not to freeze but I`m guessing its quite a bit. As far as the baker living that long in the water, well, I don`t think we will ever know the TRUE story. Many other factors had to have come into play for him to have lasted that long all I know is that the booze had nothing to do with his survival. Find me some scientific evidence and not armchair lore and I will believe it.

  Mary, where did you dream up this stuff?! No one has ANY proof whatsoever that the baker was actually in the water for 2 1/2 hours and that drinking hard liquor helped in his survival.And to rely on a movie for your conclusions is just silly! We have no idea how big the man was and his being a baker COULD be a clue that he was big man with more body fat and that is probably the most important thing when it comes to cold water survival.Liquor will do NOTHING to help you survive.When you hit cold water your body will almost instantly start to save its vital internal organs by reducing blood flow to the "less valuable" parts so that vital organs can go on functioning (at least for awhile).Because the liver is one of the organs that helps us rid ourselves of excess alcohol, when it is working overtime it is using valuable energy to do so.Not only that, but being drunk would probably have dulled their senses and bad decisions may have been made.Alcohol does not work like "antifreeze" and if your blood temperature is that low and it starts to freeze, your core body temperature is already too low....you are on your way out .Its called hypothermia.With all due respect this little ''theory'' has made the rounds for years, and at first glance it sounds plausible but in the real world it does not hold up.

  he hates it.. he wants a basic name like bobby, tony, etc.. is there a name that sounds like tristen but isn't?.

  A guy goes to his doctor and says" hey doc, ya gotta help me,my penis its all orange"The doctor looks at him with a quizzed out kind of look and says" I have never heard of that before,let me have a look" So the guy pulls down down his pants and the doctor says "Wow! you are right its all orange! How have you been feeling? " The guy tells him "Never better,I feel great" The doctor then asks him "Does this condition run in your family? maybe its hereiditary?" " Nope" the guy says "I have`nt heard of anyone in the family with a problem like this" "well" The doctor says "maybe its sports related,do you play any sports or have any hobbies" "No" the guys says" I`m pretty much a homebody, I don`t leave the house much" " Well maybe its work related" the doc asks," are there any chemicals or other stuff at your job that maybe causing this?" "No" the guys says " I have`nt worked in years,can`t be that" The doctor is starting to get a bit perturbed and says to the guy " You have been feeling good, you don`t play sports or have any hobbies, it doesnt run in your family and you don`t have a job. I don`t know what could be causing this" The guy shrugs his shoulders and gets up to leave. The doctor says to him " By the way, it sounds like you lead a pretty boring life what do you do for excitement,what do you do all day? The guy says "Not much, usually I just stay at home, watch pornos and eat cheezies"........

  i know i don`t post that often but i`m sitting here with the headphones on listening to tom cochrane and red rider "lunatic fringe" ....all you fellow canucks probably know the song.after that i`m gonna have another rye and soak up some tragically hip ....new orleans is sinking....that song rocks!!

  any of you have any music that you listen to when you are in a mellow mood and just kicking back?...

  well, if you want to get the top price for something it's best to sell when there is a lot of interest and things are in vouge / in fashion .... with all the recent media attention i reckon it is the perfect time to sell off the royal family!

  the americans would probably take them off our hands and i reckon we could get a good price ... texas or something in return.
