Just found out that my little sister is getting df'd next week. Her husband left her about a year ago got df'd and recently got a girl pregnant. My sister has had a hard time with the whole situation as you can imagine. She's made some "mistakes" along the way as she's tried to get back into the dating world, with both witnesses and non witnesses. So she told on herself a couple weeks ago and this is the help she gets. I wish I would have known she was thinking about confessing. Oh yeah and she's living with our jw parents, who have informed me that they aren't kickng her out but she'll be on a short leash. Good times in jw land.

Starting to believe in "new lite" .......
by Blttex ini'm now fully convinced that the society provide new lite!
well, at least the lite that is defined by miriam webster.
they were right all along, just had the wrong spelling.. lite- 2: diminished or lacking in substance or seriousness <litenews>; specifically : being an innocuous or unthreatening version often used postpositively <it is film noir lite james greenberg> .

Cost of new Kingdom Halls?
by Blttex ini have been told that the cost to build a new kingdom hall is $500k +.
i have a background in commercial construction and this seems pretty high to me, considering all the free labor.
that is just the cost of the building, excluding the lot price.

Today I received my first ever birthday gift!
by NVR2L8 ini received a parcel at work from my daughter and her boyfriend.
it contained a birthday card in the shape of a motorcycle leather jacket and a book on rides you can take using the back roads in my part of the world!
my eyes filled with tears as i was reading the card.

Congratulations! Although being 32yo I had my first birthday this year. My non JW girlfriend (now my wife) planned a whole weekend for me. I've never put much stock in birthday celebrations until I actually experienced one. It was something I'll never forget! JWs like to make it out as a self centered celebration, but my experience was not self centered at all. Rather it was a shared experience. The excitement and enjoyment i saw in her was way more important and special to me than my own sense of self importance. Not celebrating birthdays takes away an opportunity for us to make others feel special.

Jamaican Branch Office Closing
by jw07 ini'm from jamaica, montego bay to be exact.
if there are other jamaicans here, feel free to let me know.. with that said, it was announced at our last meeting (a letter was read) that the branch office (bethel) in kingston would be closing, and affairs would soon be directed from us hq.
now the branch office here is a large compound built on acres of prime real estate.

That's ironic timing. I just got back from Jamaica. I was there for my honeymoon and was wondering how many witnesses lived there. I would guess not very many, the culture seems to happy and fun loving to support a very big witness population.

From what I've seen, it's just you. 99% of people here go out of there way to explain things in an overly nice way, and site references. Try going to the elders and asking the same questions. Let us know how they respond if you ask for proof of what they are saying.

non JW married to JW
by Oh Gawd ini keep reading about situations where one spouse is a jw and the other a relatively normal functioning human being.
how does this work?.
i've been married 22 years so i know a thing or two about compromise and over looking faults.

There are so many variables to consider. She may not take things to the extreme. Her elders may also be more laid back and not inclined to go on which hunts at the drop of a hat. That's one of the most frustrating things about venue a witness. There are so many things left up to each congregation and each elder, it's like a box of chocolates. Most witnesses do just enough to fly below the radar, so they can stay in the social club. That's really all being a witness is about. God is way down the list. The only way to truly see things for what they are is to view them from a distance. If it weren't for me missing meetings, then I probably wouldn't have noticed the things I do now. Give her some time.
