  The life of a Circuit or District Overseer

  although they frequently point to the apostle paual as the 'original circuit overseer," the wbts has set up a system which is nothing like what paul did.. paul was not a burden to any congregation.

  yet, today the cos and dos (at least here in the states) have the following life:.

  car is paid for.

  The official explanation : the rotation arrangement meant that the elders would always be learning and never become proficient in a given area. On the other hand, keeping each in his designated place makes for an experienced elder in each position. Much more efficient! That seems to make sense doesn’t it?

  The real explanation : the Society quickly realized with their little experiment in self-government that it was imperative to keep a tight grip and maintain control of each elder body and congregation. How ? Simple ! They appoint the director, the big cheese, the main man, the presiding pepper. Enthrone a "Tower Bower". And if he stops bowing, they replace him rapido!

  And that’s why the C.O’s are still visiting. Gotta monitor quality of the local’s "Tower Bowing" and check up on the titled "Tower Bower".

  Living out of a suitcase used to be the biggest challenge ... then came trailers and RV’s ... nowadays most have a well-furnished apt. I remember a D.O a while back complaining about his little Reliant or Aries (not enough room for publishers and literature and too light in the snow). Yeah, he finally got his Oldsmobile. Today all expenses taken care of. Even warantee service for the car is usually looked after by a designated min. serv. Next the sisters will be asked to clean the C.O's apt. twice a week.

  Every "worldly" concern the "Joe" publisher has to face is not an issue. Leaves plenty of time for the C.O. to get on with more important things. Like telling the pubs. not to worry about tomorrow and what they will eat or drink or where they will live ...

  does anyone have any info about jw in china?

  i've never heard about this topic?

  since everyone is supposed to be witnessed to, china is obviously important.. thanks.. croc.

  Always been urban legends that have found themselves onto platforms about the preaching in China. One brother told the audience that the fds had millions of NWT already printed in Chinese and ready to go. Naturally Matt. 24:14 would be accomplished the minute the Chinese had had the witness ... and then the end would come.

  But E.G. makes a good point. I don’t think Afghanistan has been covered yet either. Guess the slave will be puttin' the end off again.

  a bethelite brother gave a public talk at our hall a couple weeks ago.

  one part of the talk focused on "putting kingdom interest first".

  he gave examples of how some gave up material comfort so they could pursue the ministry.

  I don’t know why these guys don’t feel embarrassed telling others how to simplify their lives. I guess it depends what side of the fence you are on.

  When they encourage other to simplify it means giving up all « luxuries »

  On the other hand their so-called simple life consists of having everything taken care of by others

  The C.O gave a similar talk here

  A week before the cong. passed a resolution to donate a yearly amount (so much a pub.) to look after the C.O and wife’s teeth.

  One brother commented afterward: « He and he wife are going around with perfect smiles while half the kids in this cong. have rotten teeth »

  Their parents, living the simple life, can’t afford to take them to the dentist.

  Was he grinnin' ear to ear when he gave it out? If he was then this "modest" jerk must feel he fills the job description quite adequately. If he wasn't he's probably trying to tell you all why he will be stepping down uh... aside

  I'll bet he was sporting a foolish grin

  This sort of encouragement keeps the good guys from becoming involved and encourages the idiots and the abusers. I know, we got plenty who think they're over-qualified and indispensable around here!
