JWs in China?
by crochunter indoes anyone have any info about jw in china?
i've never heard about this topic?
since everyone is supposed to be witnessed to, china is obviously important.. thanks.. croc.

Always been urban legends that have found themselves onto platforms about the preaching in China. One brother told the audience that the fds had millions of NWT already printed in Chinese and ready to go. Naturally Matt. 24:14 would be accomplished the minute the Chinese had had the witness ... and then the end would come.
But E.G. makes a good point. I don’t think Afghanistan has been covered yet either. Guess the slave will be puttin' the end off again.

How many do you know like this?

one part of the talk focused on "putting kingdom interest first".
he gave examples of how some gave up material comfort so they could pursue the ministry.

I don’t know why these guys don’t feel embarrassed telling others how to simplify their lives. I guess it depends what side of the fence you are on.
When they encourage other to simplify it means giving up all « luxuries »
On the other hand their so-called simple life consists of having everything taken care of by others
The C.O gave a similar talk here
A week before the cong. passed a resolution to donate a yearly amount (so much a pub.) to look after the C.O and wife’s teeth.
One brother commented afterward: « He and he wife are going around with perfect smiles while half the kids in this cong. have rotten teeth »
Their parents, living the simple life, can’t afford to take them to the dentist.

Was he grinnin' ear to ear when he gave it out? If he was then this "modest" jerk must feel he fills the job description quite adequately. If he wasn't he's probably trying to tell you all why he will be stepping down uh... aside
I'll bet he was sporting a foolish grin
This sort of encouragement keeps the good guys from becoming involved and encourages the idiots and the abusers. I know, we got plenty who think they're over-qualified and indispensable around here!

Watchtower style architecture
by sleepy inso was it just me or are the architectual designs of kingdom halls absolutely bland and uninspiring?.
i suppose it just like the pictures in the mags middle of the road and all that.. if there was a new system and the watchtower society had control on thing i wonder if they would insist on standardised designs .. 3 or 4 designs for each country to chose from.. if you think that is far fetched that is exactly the policy they have today for kingdom hall design.
there are several predesigned stadardised halls to chose from.

Ever notice the Watchtower icon has to be every present. On the outside of the building, in the brickwork or as a sign border, or worked into the interior decoration. I'm surprised they haven't made an inlaid Tower carpet or floor tile design ... but then it probably has been done in some hall.
The Tower icon is to J-dub Halls what the Cross it to churches.

bunch of inactives at old-timers party

i didnt attend but a brother related this interesting anecdote to me.. apparently a newer person who is progressing well in the truth noticed how many strangers were present at the gathering and asked what congregations they were all from.
he was surprised to learn that they all were all local brothers and sisters but werent attending meetings anymore.

Last week-end there was a going away party for an old-timer. I didn’t attend but a brother related this interesting anecdote to me.
Apparently a newer person who is progressing well in the truth noticed how many strangers were present at the gathering and asked what congregations they were all from. He was surprised to learn that they all were all local brothers and sisters but weren’t attending meetings anymore. Seems there were about as many inactive as active at this going away party.
Our area is being hard hit by more and more drifting away. In the years past many were very zealous and took to heart the counsel to quit their jobs and go pioneering. Numerous brothers quit well-paying jobs in plants and mills believing the budget restraints would be very temporary.
Now they « witness » their former « worldly » co-workers near retirement with excellent benefits. They, on the other hand, have been struggling to get by for years and now see their kids grown up and their health and energy fading. Paid vacation, health benefits and company pension ? I don’t think so...many are husband and wife teams of white-haired window washers and floor moppers, sub-contracting from other younger elders (not even eligible for unemployment or disability benefits ... some have applied for welfare until they make it to their old-age pension).
Pretty sad it took this long to realize that the TOWER and Co. has been stringing them along crying « WOLF » over all these years.
Will the younger generation wake up sooner ?

Public Reproof will be made as scheduled.
by badwillie ini want to let all of you know that we have decided not to contest the elders decision to publicly reprove us tonight.
after a lot of thought, we feel in the long run that by letting this go ahead it will only make the elders and the organization look guilty, not us.. the elders have basically ordered us not to talk about what our "crime" is with anyone.
so we have decided that we will tell others what our crime was not, i.e.

You might want to tape the reproof - if for nothing else you guys might get a good laugh about it in years to come.
If you do threaten to bring a lawyer or journalist it will only delay the inevitable ... unless the legal dept. decides otherwise, they’ll just proceed another time without prior warning.
As others have said, if you have family interests it might be wiser to fade (it sounds like they could df you). Most will probably be too discreet to ask what happened, but be assured, it will be thoroughly discussed behind your backs. Therefore it might be interesting if you could quietly let it be known « it’s only because you were upset about the UN thing »
