Yes, I honestly don't want the busywork of being an elder. I see the effort put forth and I wanted no part of that. I already hated doing the talks in the school, what more having to do that and service meeting parts and public talks! Hell NO!
In my hall, most elders in their late forties and fifties. There is one who is in their mid thirties. Lots of ms in their mid thirties as well. In my old hall, they had to bring in outsiders because all the elders were in their sixties and there was a lack of "qualified" men. All of the guys I grew up with in my old hall are pretty much out of the religion. About 8 guys in all. This religion is slowly becoming stale from the lack of new blood..

Is this doctrine still in in effect?
by WasOnceBlind inso something i never knew was the fact jw's were taught that jesus is only the mediator for the anointed class and not for everyone.
i only found this out after reading "crisis of conscience" and i was actually pretty shocked to learn so.
if that is the case, when they pray why even bother saying the words "in the name of jesus christ we ask"?

Yes, finding out this was true brought tears to my eyes. I had no idea. The bible wasn't even meant for me? Then why bother? -

I had a talk 3 this past Wednesday that I blew off. It's amazing how going to a few meetings in a row automatically makes them think it's a good idea to assign me a talk. I go to the meetings and then proceed to spend 3/4 of it outside with my 19 mo. old son. I could do the old way of giving talks, no problem.. give a discourse. The new way of doing it is BS. No way I'll do that crap.. -

Sick. I had to step away from my desk after this one. How can this type of treatment EVER be called love? I agree that this is abusive. Emotional abuse at its finest.
My nephew was baptized at the age of 8 (maybe 10) years old. He is born in and is in a foreign language congregation. He barely understands the language and cannot even hold a conversation in the language. But he was baptized at an early age. Now that he has 'sinned', he was reproved, almost df. He potentially could of lost contact with his entire family because of a decision that was made for him when he was 8 years old.
This religion is sick. It entraps people into servitude. You can never leave without at least some consequence. Just like the picture said.. Why wasn't I told that I could lose my entire family if I got baptized?

What is a good blu ray player to buy?
by hoser ini don't know much about them but my wife wants me to buy one.
the dvd player crapped out

If you need a dedicated BD player, try Oppo Digital. They are pricy but I've heard nothing but good things. Of course a PS4 is also great and you can do other things besides Blu-Ray on it. If price is a concern, like NVR2L8 said, a cheap Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic will do. -

The "preaching work" is just laughable!
by cookiemaster inthe "preaching work" they're so eager to brag about is just laughable.
they say their number is an indication of god's blessing.

I heard it mentioned that you actually need to be "trained" to take the cart out. Is that true? And that you need to be in good standing? Or some such nonsense. What's so hard/important about standing around next to a cart doing jack that I need to be trained and in good standing to do it? -

A Question for Underground Apostates, How Many Are There?
by Village Idiot inwhen i first came to this forum i was of the belief that those of us who were still in due to family reasons were few in numbers perhaps one in a thousand in the jws.
soon i came to the realization that there were many more.
we have dozens of posters here who are mentally out but still in.

I've been mentally out probably for well over 5 years, but only learned TTATT about 2 years ago. I'm still in but have been out in fs only once since 2011. I still regularly put down a few hours and mag placements every month.. just because I can. My wife is very much in but needs me to be gungho to be gungho herself. We have sort of an uneasy balance right now. We both go to meetings but are irregular, about 50% I'd say. I guess I am what jwland would call apostate but I just don't want to lose my family and live a lie at the same time. As long as people leave me alone, I'm fine right where I am. -

New Apostate: Tempest in a Teacup
by Tempest in a Teacup infirst post on here.
i've been lurking for 3-4 years and i mean i've been a mega lurker, doing marathon reading sessions for months or weeks.. sometimes i proceed by researching specific topics, or posters; other times just reading current discussions.
i'm particularly fond of "old" post, i.e 10-12-15 years ago.. i have laughed, smiled, got mad, cried etc, just reading some threads here.. as you can see i suffer from some kind of "accute lurkitis".

Welcome Tempest! I'm also very intrigued by this:
I don't plan to leave the jws.
I've always thought that this might be the path for me.. at least the one of less resistance. I don't mind attending the meetings with my wife. I also don't mind turning in a time slip (5 hours every month event though I've been out in FS once in the past 2 years). The problem I foresee is when all of this comes to a head. I have honestly come to the point where I no longer mind the idea of losing my hard core mom/dad/sibling(s). But, we'll see. For now, I've found a happy equilibrium that I hope does not change.
