i have been asked by a concerned husband to speak to both his family and his wife family about jws.. his wife has been studying with the jws for some months and he is very concerned.

he read alot on the internet and knows they use mind control, and make false claims to be god's channel, but he cannot convince her of this.

Since the man is already 'studying' with the JWs, I think it would be best to take advantage of it and help him ply the JW 'study conductor' with legitimate questions that he knows the JW can't answer. The best ones depend on his general knowledge about everything, and on which JW publication they're slogging through.

Yes I think that's a good point, I think it's the new book "Knowledge Something or Other".
But maybe in the future I Will find out what the next couple of lessons will be and post them and anyone who like could raise some good questions that he could use, they'd have to be simple because he's not really into the Bible he just trying real hard to help his wife.

You'll have to post a good deal more information about the man and his wife, and what they're studying, and then various posters can come up with good questions to pose.

That sounds like a plan.

I don't have any control over that (how many will be their). I realy had nothing to do with arranging this meeting.

His wife will not be at this family gathering for some reason and doesn't know about it.

I'm just helping out this guy, he asked me to speak with his famliy about JWs. He's really a nice guy who wants the best for his family and he sees the control the JWs have over his wife's thinking and it worries him.

If I was in his shoes I would have done the same thing. I think a family that thinks that much about one of their members has a lot going for it.

I will proceed with caution and try to size up the situation, I don't want it to turn into a JW hate fest, I'm not into that.

But I agree with you it's a very touchy situation and need to be handle as delicately as posible. And your words will weigh heavy on my mind.

Thanks for you observations.

I plan to repeatedly caution the family not to over react, so I totally understand the dangers.

The husband is even studying with the JWs now at my suggestion, but with the intent of looking at the context of the scriptures used in the lesson.

I'll repeatedly tell them that confrontational approaches will only make matters worse.

I have been asked by a concerned husband to speak to both his family and his wife family about JWs.

His wife has been studying with the JWs for some months and he is very concerned. He read alot on the internet and knows they use mind control, and make false claims to be God's channel, but he cannot convince her of this. He's worried and is trying to help her not to get to caught up in this religion. The changes that she's already made from listening to the JWs has had some bad effects on their family's happiness.

So he's arranged for a family meeting that his wife doesn't know about, most of the family on both sides are very concerned too.

I was asked along with another ex-JW to speak to both families at a get together.

Any words of caution or what literature may be good to pass out please feel free to offer advice.

Many minds on this matter to me can only help.

PS: You Know and Fred Hall excluded from this one(sorry guys).

What is faith REALLY?

i've been interested in the discussion on the 'for those of us who believe in god' thread and aguest wrote this:.

"we have been misled into understand what 'faith' really is.".

if we have all been misled, then can someone explain what exactly faith really is?

Thanks for your honest answer to my questions.

I'm sorry you had to answer them so late at nite, at least if you are living on the east coast it was late.

About this voice that you feel is God talking to you, please don't misunderstand me but maybe it could just be your own mind playing tricks on you.
It happens to all of us sometimes.
Please don't feel that I respect you less if I say this, I don't. We can all at times get to feeling we must be somebody special,and that maybe God will use us in some special way.

Maybe we have been through some hard times and we just need a little rest, maybe some counseling, or a little medication to give our minds and hearts time and space to heal.

Shelby please go see a professional and get some help do it for your family for those that really love you.

I say this with concern and don't mean any harm, I'm sorry if I may have at anytime been less than that.

That's some interesting stuff.
So as you said Jesus died for the whole world, and that includes all life, plant, and animal.

So my questions are will all the amoebas and all other one types of one celled animals get everlasting life if they excersize faith in Jesus?

Also what will the quality of life be like for these one celled creatures? Will they be of a divine nature?

Will they rule with Christ in heaven? Will they judge angels?
And how do these one celled creature show godly love?

I hope I didn't ask too many questions, but your response to Dwilt made me think of these.

1975 Reaction

this past weekend, one of the few remaining jw relatives who will still discuss jw stuff with me told me about his recently attending a home bible study being conducted by an elder.

evidently, the study had been told or had picked up some info about the 1975 fiasco.

the elder totally denied that the society had stated or even led people to believe that armageddon would occur in 1975, and he naturally blamed some individual jws for misinterpreting the society's materials.

So are you saying 2 wrongs make a right?

Yes, apprently they more or less did. According to the last chapter of John, the word went out from them (the apostles) to the brothers, that John would not die before Jesus returned. Apparently that was a common belief among the brothers up until the aged apostle himself wrote the gospel account and cleared up the misunderstanding.

I thought that the wise thing for a person to do is to learn from our own and others mistakes. Why don't you learn from yours and the mistakes you mentioned here?
Why do you keep repeating this same mistake you so cleaverly brought out.

Where is your loyalty to Jesus words about " no man knows the day or hour not even the Son of man"

Your failed predictions only emphasize the wisdom of not going beyound the things written.
