I'll be revisiting my hometown in October and would like to see if I can obtain access to court records from my parent's case refusing blood for my then-5-year-old sister. Does anyone know what type of court this would be in: District, Circuit, etc.? Also, with her age being 5, will that pose a problem in getting access to the files? Thanks

** Asking the Hard Questions **
by FlyingHighNow ini picked up the holy trinity episcopal church june newsletter today.
this was included on page 5. i was raised in the episcopal church until the summer of 1970, when my mother moved us to atlanta after her divorce from my dad.
she stopped taking us to church, much to my detriment.

Thanks for this post. It was the Episcopal Church that helped me through my departure of the Witnesses. A little poor parish in the inner city trying to help homeless folks; it was very inclusive. The priest, a woman, did for me in five years what my mother couldn't do in 18 years; she helped me to mature out of the childlike state most stay in for a long time after being raised a witness. I'll never forget sitting in her office crying and begging for solid answers to the questions presented at the outset of this post. She never gave me solid answers but helped me to understand that "not knowing the answers" and still being a good person and living a life of love is perhaps the greatest form of faith.
I must admit, though, I've not been back to church in three years. I served in the Integrity USA - the Episcopal Church's GLBT activist group - nerve center during the General Convention in Columbus three years ago and just couldn't get over the horrible politics of the church. The system is set up so that the same old people keep attending the general convention where national-level issues are voted upon. It's like they weren't there for God, but for the "look at me factor" and the excitement of the politics. I was so disgusted with the church institution and the leaders of the GLBT group and decided to leave.
However, I'll always be very appreciative of that little inner city parish and that wonderful priest who remains my strongest friend aside from my partner.
I have to admit, though, your post has made me think of perhaps returning to the inclusiveness of that church.

Married my partner...
by writerpen inwe just got back from san francisco where we were married last week.
maybe some day gay couples won't have to travel 1,000 miles to get married, and their commitment of love will be recognized by society.
there will be no need to use code - my friend, my roommate - at the office, with neighbors, or with family when speaking about the person with whom you live your life.

Thanks again to everyone.
BizzyBee: We call each other endearing names. At the office and among family, though, I refer to her as my roommate or friend. It depends on the situation. When we were married in San Francisco, the judge pronounced us "spouses for life."

Thanks to everyone for the congrats. No official "honeymoon"; we had to get back to the cats. :) No photos either; however, we did have to pull another couple off the street to be witnesses so that the records could remain public. It was funny because during the small ceremony, one of them started crying.

I didn't really think that it would feel different after getting married, espeically since we had a commitment ceremony two years ago. In reality, though, after the "I do" was said, it just felt right. We're back home now, and like all other married couples, we're taking care of the cats, going to work, paying the bills, mowing the lawn, donating to charity, making dinner, doing the laundry, going to movies, and taking care of each other.

Looking for blood clip....
by writerpen ini'm writing a nonfiction piece about my sister who was diagnosed with leukemia when she was five.
i'm doing research on the electronic wt library, but i thought i'd pose this question to the board.
i recall as a child hearing that parents should pick their children up and run out of a hospital with them before allowing a blood transfusion.

This would have been late 70's. She was disgnosed around 1983ish, but I remember the stories since I was a child in mid-70s and on.

Being told what to say in Convention interviews
by passwordprotected inhas anyone else heard tell of interviewees in convention parts being told what to say?
the way i've heard it is you're contacted to be interviewed in a convention talk because you've had a great experience in some form or other and they need you to boast about it.
so, you meet with the brother handling the assignment and you go through your experience with him (boast about it).

This is a funny thread. I dreamed of having one of these parts and even lobbied for it with an elder (who never went out in service but gave the CO a lot of money, thus he was given a part), and he let me give an experience. I totally made it up, but now I can saw I've spoken in front of 2,000 people.
