Anyone have a May 1974 KM Scan? Need Help.

to anyone out there who is a listening ear and may be of assistance-.

as some of you know, my brother and his wife are shunning me because i da myself from the jw.

subsequently i do not have a relationship with my 1 yr old nephew, and i haven't had a relationship with my brother for some time now.. surprisingly, he has agreed to sit and discuss some of the jw teachings with me, and the topic came up of the 1975 fiasco.. now i wasnt even born yet, and my brother was 2 years old.

i am aware of false religious doctrines in the w.t.s.. i never really considered the possibility of others also being manipulated by different religious organizations.. i work with a woman who is very devout in her beliefs.

the women in her church are not permitted to use birth control, cut their hair, wear makeup or wear jewelry.

they may sing but no music or musical instruments are permitted.

The KMs from 1970-1999 are supposedly on the 99 Watchtower CD.

Wouldn't you be able to pull this quote from there? Sure it's not a scan, but if you had a copy of the CD, put it into the drive, and pulled it up to show him, wouldn't that work just as good?

EDIT: just a comment....reading through the post....if you really only have this 'one shot', you sure it's a good idea to spend it on the 1975 stuff? If so, at the VERY least, make sure you cover all the scriptures (and watchtower printings) detailing with how false prophets cannot be from god - FIRST.

(Kinda like the UN thing - I think JWites are trained to have a short memory, too. Unless you cover the reasons WHY what you're about to reveal is wrong ACCORDING TO THE ORG, it just never sinks in - they need to be reminded of their own beliefs A LOT)

They can use telephones. They can even OWN a telephone. BUT.....

....they aren't allowed to have it in their house!

Not in our area (OH and PA), at least. DC power is out. CERTAINLY no speakers/sound systems/etc. (No, they don't use flashlight - candles will do, thanks). Note that, if they are working on site, and someone happens to have electric lighting, they won't make you turn it off or anything - they'll even be passengers in other people's cars, they just aren't allowed to own or operate one themselves (so, naturally, some businesses have sprung up shuttling amish from their homes to job sites - Amish craftsmanship is in high demand as they are VERY good craftsmen).

FYI, they do have some power tools in their shops after a fashion - they use air and hydraulic power.

(In case you're wondering - the hall we were in was Amish territory. I've been to LOTS of Amish houses. Even inside one, but not for the JWs - my wife had an Amish fellow do all our kitchen cabinents, so we visited his shop a couple times, and he obviously was at our house a few times.....BTW, this would be a good spot to point out they don't believe in using makeup OR DEODORANT.....OMG THEY STINK!!!)

(EDIT: A little web-research has shown that, in fact, some Amish communities do use DC power created by a bank of batteries charged by diesel generators....I have been to several Amish communities and never seen such a thing, but there ya go)

Has more details on Amish. Basically, they broke away from the Mennanites in 1693 because they weren't strict enough, and they all promptly left the continent (gee, thanks Europe). Education is limited to elementary level. They are not allowed to defend themselves! Amish can only marry Amish and no divorce is allowed. The average family size is 7-8 children (AVERAGE?!?!)

Blahblahblah...sounds like fun, ehh?

Geesh, I actually felt a little guilty

See, I'm not christian. I'd have a lot of fun at her expense. But, then, I'm a bad person.

I think we saw Mennonites

Amish are like that. A US-only thing, I think. No phones, no lights, no motor cars, not a single luxury, etc. No electricity allowed, etc. They drive around in their little horses and buggies.

Men aren't allowed to shave their beards once they are married (unmarried men aren't allowed to have facial hair). Women must always wear a head covering - both genders are only allowed to dress in 4 colors (black, dark blue, green, and something else).

They live in very close-knit communities, and there are a LOT of them (especially in NE Ohio and PA). They don't go to public schools (they have their own), college is prohibited, they do accept modern medical treatment, but do not carry insurance.

A funny lot, but they don't have people leaving, I understand. I guess, where would you go if you were one? Everyone you've ever known your entire life lived like you do (except for one or two people you might pass in the street at the market). Plus, you dress funny, talk funny (they still use the KJV, and pios Amish talk like it! Funniest thing in the world!), etc.

THAT's a truly sad religion.

newsflash!! WTBS CD-ROM 2001

yesterday an announcement was made at my local con.

and i thought i`d share it.. the watchtower announced that work on the new cd-rom is in progress and we can expect it at the end of this year.. unlike the other versions you can`t get away with win 3.1, you`ll now need at least win95.. available languages: the one already available + tjech and japanese.. some of it`s features:.

- one window (instead of several).

IIRC, it goes back to the 50s and 60s (respectively) for the watchtower and awakes. I don't think they have any books or tracts or anything older than that.
