Love the Google ad that came up with this one. LOL.
Still, I'd take a witch, any day, over a follower of any other religion. Heck, as spouses, witches beat atheists, too!
it?s a strange thing being brought up in a christian house with the matriarch being a religious zealot and then years later ending up living in a pagan house with an equally committed, and i use the word committed advisedly, religious woman running the household.. .
it all started so innocently as well.
it was after our relationship had started i was aware that she was a little different, not quite of the so called ?norm?

i've been working at a telephony company doing primarily sql database stuff for the past 7 years, and the last year of that telecommuting from oregon (they didn't want to lose such a valued employee, so made arrangements for that).
unfortunately, our ceo died recently (within the past 6 weeks), the resulting turmoil with investors and customers is causing the company to go out of business.
should last out the end of the month, but, then, that's it.
Oh, good grief, of COURSE I do not sell myself short when talking with interviewers. I've a couple of those 'job seeker's guide' books and have done fairly well remembering the way to phrase disadvantages when asked point blank about them, how to highlight strong points, what to say and not to say, etc.
I am presuming in this thread that the conversation is less formal, however. I know a LOT about aspects of the IT industry that I have no firsthand experience in, and I can talk up my actual skills and knowledge quite a bit. I'd just hate to 'talk myself up' into a position I can't actually handle from the get-go. That would be...more than a little embarrassing.

Oh, a lot of companies are HIRING in the PDX area...just not hiring *ME*. I've interviewed up there about a dozen times, now. And I've applied at WebMD without even getting an interview. Given the...position...interviewers tend to approach my resume with when talking with me, I'm 99.99% certain the problem is the lack of any higher degree. Apparently, 8 years work experience is not worth as much as the 2 years of college I lack. At least, in Portland.
It's times like this I get particularly frustrated (read: angry) at my parents for forbidding me from going away for college when I had the chance and a scholarship. (Mom because of the JW thing, Dad because he had no spine and just went along with whatever my mother said)
I actually got my associates degree while married and working full-time (and regularly attending meetings and service at the time, for much of it. That DID suck, btw.)
Anyway, that's all a moot point. I'm still looking, but could use any leads anyone has. I feel my best chances would be inside information on companies that need to fill a position but have not yet advertised it. Oregon unemployment is still bad, and there are a lot more BSes and MSes floating around with more experience than I have that promptly flood any new listings, kinda cutting me out of the running.

I know of a position in New Jersey that will involve LDAP work. They are looking for C++ or C#
I'd love a chance to work in such an environment, but the reason I mentioned SQL is because that's what I excel at *right now*. My degree (an AAB - hey, when I got it, that ALONE caused enough waves in the hall since I gave up pioneering to pursue it) is in Client-Server programming in a Visual Studio environment. I wrote the case project in Visual C++ (for the dll components) and the GUI interface in Java2. Anyway, my point is, that's pretty much it for my exposure to Visual Studio - I love it, I've done a lot of coding in Visual C++ 6.0 as a hobby, and I want to do it as a job...but I have relatively little "real world" experience with it. Analysing some code from our company with our engineers to identify bugs is pretty much it, no development work in a production environment. But MS-SQL...oh, SQL I know backwards and forwards and inside out. And, as with any IT position, the usual rigamarole of other stuff - I build PCs for a hobby, helped set up several client Windows Domain servers and NT networks w/ Active Directory, etc. Ran client trainings, wrote most of our company's tech documents. Which is why I defined the position I was looking for as I did above. Ideally, start with a heavy SQL component, so I can "hit the ground running" with the company, and have the ability to transfer (or take on additional responsibilities) in Visual Studio development. (FWIW, I have a 'half-bunk' resume posted on my site. --> Link <--. All the information is correct, I've just replaced the names and addresses with bogus information since Google has so kindly indexed my page and I'd like to keep a LITTLE privacy without someone contacting me for the info.)

Right now we are in Bend, but I'm looking in Salem, Eugene, and Portland (and even to across the river in Vancouver, WA).
Honestly, if it means I can get a job well suited to my skills, I'd be open for a position in pretty much ANY state (except Ohio or Nevada - personal reasons). Carolinas are pretty high on our list, too. Washington, etc.

It's really quite a drag, though. I mean, everyone is talking about how "recovered" the economy is....but I'm still not seeing any jobs!
(It's gotten to the point that - while I LOVE Oregon - I'd really be happy moving somewhere to find a job that fits my skill set. Oh, sure, there are SOME low-level IT jobs in town, but the best offer I've had so far is HALF what I'm making now, and according to the national averages, I'm *already* underpaid for my position! Depressing! Would really dig a job working with Visual Studio and SQL, but....just hard to come by.....)

As a result, I'm looking for IT work in Oregon, but...well, I'm just not having any LUCK with positions listed in the papers and on Monster.com. And I've been searching a while! When he died, I took the hint and started furiously applying everywhere I could, but, again, no luck so far...
Anybody here work for a company in Oregon that they know is hiring in the IT department?
the new talk in the hall per my mom is that a twenty something year old sister is getting disfellowshipped because she's been attending the mormon church because she found a nice mormon boy that is interested in her.
since there are no jw eligible men around, she has gone over to the other side and will pay for it with the announcement soon.
word is---she just "needs" to get married.
Maybe the mormon view of oral sex is different than the JW view....expect a mass exodus of JW 'sisters' if it is and word gets about!!!!!
Howso? I've never heard of a woman who liked doing it to BEGIN with, JW or no. The religion just serves as a convenient excuse.
after reading jt stumbler's topic on avatars, i recognised that certain avatars appeal to me, and i'm sure others feel the same.... .
elsewhere (no idea why, gimme a clue), ezekiel3 (says a lot), euphemism (loved the marx bros) and googlemagoogle (so classical) spring to mind, oh, ip_sec's last avatar (the red pyramid) - want to revert back ip_sec?
oh, and stillajwexelder - after reading your posting on jt stumbler's thread i realise i previously had the wrong impression - lol.
I always like the ones where we get to see the actual person. So, Arrowstar, darlin, I dig your pic! Abaddon's avatar is very nice, as is Evilforce's. Little Toe used to have one a while back, of him and a little fella, I think his nephew, that was cute. Cruzanheart has a lovely pic, too. There are a bunch of others I like, but I can't keep straight in my mind to whom they belong.
LOL - I seem to remember a certain period on the board's history when big scenes and crying-fests where being made over certain (ummm...topless) "picture" avatars.
