Why do you believe???

i have a question for everybody.

it has probably been asked before, but i'll ask it again in case anyone changed their minds.... why do/don't you believe in god/god.

what give you faith in things not beheld/makes you not believe?.

Ummmm...no...actually...we aren't. The WTBTS and greenpeace movements would like you to believe the situation is untenable, and that all life will destroy itself if not for divine (or extreme human) intervention.

The truth, I'm afraid, is a little more mundane. Yeah, some spots on the planet are taking a beating from humanity. I'd like to see less pollution everywhere, to be sure. HOWEVER, our *current* level of pollution (it has been MUCH WORSE in the past) is within the ecosphere's abilty to absorb with no long-term damage.

It's a VERY big planet, and we really are still fairly insignificant on it. Hell, look at it today. Would you even know that an asteroid once smashed into it, blotting out the sun, and destroying most animal life?

Just checking ferrit - so you believe there is A god? As in, one single, all-powerful, 'loving' etc god as dictated by christians?

Why, then, so much suffering in the world?

And, who created viruses and bacteria? It's not like viruses, at least, EVER serve a beneficial purpose - all they do is infect and destroy living things.

after reading latte's post on jahh's thread, it seems that the dubs are going full-bore into their good old duck and hedgehog style of crying "persecution!!!!!

" as soon as it looks like they're being exposed.. dateline, apparently, was persecution.

As far as Xander's conspiracy theory, I do not agree

Well, I wasn't arguing they so much put the pedos in place or are directly responsible for them (indirectly, yes, by building an environment and system that encourages them).

I'm just saying they've know about the problem a LONG TIME before now - WAY, WAY before now. Early 70s, maybe even sooner (but probably not much - pedos didn't start really being exposed until around them).

And, whatever else they do, the GB manages to stay on top of what is going on inside their org.

I think they intentionally did not address this issue, though. That's all it would take on their part - see the problem, intentionally not address it because they knew full well it would be used against them someday. (This decision would actually work nicely with the failed 75 predictions - kinda keep this scandal as a 'nest egg' in case it becomes obvious all the timetable based prophecies have failed).

Yes, the letters have been posted here. In short, 'always go straight to the police....WHEN YOU HAVE A CONFIRMED MOLESTER'. Trick is, of course, meeting the org's definition of confirmed.

You sound as if you are surprised at that possibility.

They haven't painted the whole world as 'out to get them'? It ISN'T lying 'in the power of the wicked one'? They've never forced an issue - say, flag saluting - that they could easily have backed down on solely for the negative attention it got from the world?

They've never suggested students be excused from certain activies in school knowing FULL WELL *exactlty* how the classmates would react to the good JW student's request? Did they not say that the 'world hates what is not its own' and that persecution from the world was a sign that you had the truth?

As I said, it is just a gut feeling. After all, one should "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity".

I just have a hard time believing that SO MANY men in SUCH HIGH POSITIONS could possibly and repeatedly be SO INCREDIBLY STUPID. There simply MUST be a reason for it.

This is a site that takes the midi files for LOTS of songs, and dubs over them with the voices of online dictionary's prononciation aids. The result is a FUNNY mp3 file.

Check out the Britney Spears one. Or 'Like a Prayer'. 'Enjoy the Silence' is pretty good, too. (As is 'Enter Sandman' and 'How Soon is Now')

(Actually, now that I think of it, it's probably only going to be REALLY funny for those of us that remember pre-MP3 'digital music')

So...how to get UN NGO book

i know i've seen reference to the un ngo listing document somewhere.

as i recall, the '2002' edition was published before the wtbts withdrew from the un, such that they were still listed in it.

now, my family (all good jws) are insisting we come over for my mom's anniversary and i'm, like, 100% sure they are planning on bringing up our recent very obviously anti-jw behavior.

Then why are they fighting? Why do they say 'look at our org and our nice videos, we have no problem' out of the one side of their mouths, but then, out of the other issue policies that STILL maintain the rules for elder investigation that led to the situation in the first place.

I mean, it's not like they honestly believe at Bethel that the elders are fit for criminal investigation - if there is a murder in the congregation, they take it to authorities, no questions asked. Drug running? Authorities, no questions asked.

etc.

They have files, they have an idea how bad it is. Either you have to believe they don't consider child molestation a crime or they have some agenda for letting it continue.

And...letting it continue doesn't help the org IN ANY LOGICAL WAY - except one. One very significant way. It makes the world turn on the witnesses. It 'fulfills divine prophecy'. Self-fulfilled, to be sure, but the rank and file are too brainwashed to see it.

The org has ALREADY started giving talks detailing how this is persecution. Why issue outlines to speakers acknowledging the world is finding fault with these teachings and calling it persecution, then CONTINUE TO ALLOW THE PROBLEM TO FESTER!?
