Kingdom Least are you a "Bible Student?" And I don't mean one who studies the Bible. Just curious.

Witnet closes its Door for good...
by Pathofthorns inkind of a sad but inevitable end to a special and unique place on the net.
free speech is severely limited in the truth, and the wide range of opinion and viewpoint between the old school and the new school i'm sure made operating such a site a challenge.. for me the most facinating thing was the way one could see thinking troubled witnesses contrasted with the ones who were the mindless products of an organization.
i think it was a valuable window into the worldwide picture of what is happening today in the religion.. the site was helpful to me, and for that it holds a special place with me.

What an interesting influx from Obed's site. I was a very rare poster there myself. To be honest I haven't found much here lately to interest me but perhaps things will be a little more lively now. I notice there also seems to be a lot of new people at Great Crowd. What's the deal there? How do you get access to the more serious discussions?

AhHah,
The problem in these matters always boils down to objectivity. One person's objectivity is another's bias if you know what I mean. I doubt if it is even possible to be objective when dealing with an issue that almost by definition is completely subjective. A book called "The Politics of Religious Apostacy" is very good on the subject. I'm sure you would find it interesting.

I was asked to list the specifics of Bergman's errors. I read that stuff a couple of years ago and I don't really have time to go through it all again. I just remember my opinion at the time, and the fact that some of it was just ludicrous. If it's important to you I suggest you check it out yourselves. I did take a quick look at a couple items that may impact Mr. Bergman's credibility. I cannot vouch for the absolute reliabity of these statements, ain't the Web wonderful ,as follows:
******************************************************************
Any Jehovah's Witness that has extensively explored the web has no doubt stumbled upon a Dr. Gerald Bergman's writings. Mr. Bergman is often referred to as "Dr. Jerry Bergman" or "Jerry Bergman, Ph.D." Mr. Bergman was brought up as a Jehovah's Witness but seemingly could not abide by its standards. He has now made it his life's work to write rather long and shallow "scholarly" treatises concerning Jehovah's Witnesses and various topics. While it is true that Mr. Bergman holds a doctorate in some type of discipline, possibly educational psychology (at least that is as specific as I could discern), he has had quite a few problems in his academic life. He now teaches at some small technical school named "Northwest Technical College." One fact that he never seems to mention about himself is his troubles with the academic world and his peers. He previously was denied tenure from Bowling Green State University for reasons that included his ethics, teaching, quality of publications and relevance of publications to his teaching. Interestingly enough, he sued the University claiming that he was discriminated against due to his failure to obtain tenure. He has stated that the reason for his failure was attributable to academic discrimination concerning his ardent creationist teachings. The court did not agree with him.Check this site for more http://www.jehovah.to/freedom/

I've read about everything Bergman has written. His bias is obvious and I've found blatant inaccuracies in some of the things he's written. He's not considered credible by those with much of a leaning toward objectivity. The comparison that has been drawn with Ray Franz is a good one, Bergman is a different kettle of fish.

Jehovah or Jahwe??
by mgm inis it important to call god by his right name?.
if so, jehovahs witness should change to jahwes witness.
it is no doubt among scientist anymore, that jahwe is the right form of gods name.

There's pretty good evidence based on computerized linguistcs that it should be a three syllable name. Something like Ye-ho-wah. There was some information on it in Biblical Archaeologist last year I think and it's been mentioned in a couple of books.

Just to address the way things work in the US at this point. When you call legal for direction on this your are told to report the matter to the legal authorities within a very limited period of time. You're even told specifically which legal authorities to contact. I know it hasn't always been that way.

Are JW's really seperate from the world?
by Andyman ini have done alot of posting on different boards since i started on the internet.
i have found that jw's are really not as "seperate" from the world as they claim to be.. as a jw i was told we had to be "seperate" from the world.
you know, get drunk, use drugs, abuse our families, cheat on taxes, lie, be greedy, etc.. but from what i have seen in my old congregtion, and the stories i have read here and on other boards, this statement isn't really true.
