I agree with you. IMO you have to keep an open mind otherwise you can trap yourself right back into another faulty belief or lack of belief system. I just don't have it in me to be dogmatic about much of anything these days because I've been wrong in the past.

If You Were Wrong About The JWs, Maybe Your Current Beliefs Aren't True
by serotonin_wraith inif you're here, it's likely you were once fooled by what the jws believe.. back then, i expect you thought you were smart.
you thought you could tell if you were being lied to.
yet, they got past your mental defenses and sucked you in.. knowing this, how can you be sure your current religious beliefs are true?.

A world of JW's, I mean really when you think about it it's very hellish!
Plus I figured I would never make it thru the Great Trib, and if you die there you're dead everywhere!!

Raising children without a religion - thoughts, advice?

husband and i have not been active for many years and no longer consider ourselves jw's.
we also have no desire to be part of an organized religion.

Raise them to be good individuals. Instill in them the moral values you and your husband value. You don’t need religion to be a good person. As they grow older explain to them the concept of God, religion and faith; but tell them it’s their choice to choose what they want to do. Being active in a religion doesn’t always make things right. I say be active in your community, be active in school, be active in a sport, be active with your family, be active in whatever makes you a happy and complete individual.
Great advise! I consider myself a good person and feel comfortable raising my daughter to have the same moral values that I have. We discuss religion and I'm careful not to inflict my own ideas on her, we have tried several different churches and now she is wanting to learn more about budha which is cool with me as I tend toward that school of thought myself. As regards to God I told her he is as real as someone wants him to be. We discuss the afterlife and both have our own viewpoints. I have also taught her to show respect for other people's faith regardless of how she feels about it personally.

Worse however, is the smell of the burn unit, the cream they apply to a burn victim's body combined with the burn itself, is extremely hard to bear. (That is probably the worse sight and smell I have encountered to date, I still get chills thinking of those patients and how much they suffered.)
My ex was in a bad accident where he was burned over 1/3 of his body, so I spent some time in a burn unit. They used pork skin to cover the burns (we picked that over cadaver skin). I called him my little pork rind cause that is what he smelled like. But I agree with the chills, burns have to be one of the most horrible things to have happen to you.

Struggling to throw my contact lenses away!
by Trevanian inwhen i first started wearing (soft) contact lenses, in around 1986, they were prescribed for wearing for six months, i think, before being replaced.
over the years the technology has become better, they've become cheaper, and wear time has become shorter... three months... one month... .
now i'm wearing two-week (water-wada-wada-oxygen-permeable-completely-inexpensive-state-of-the-art) contact lenses.. but damn, when i have to throw the little critters in the bin or down the drain after two weeks, i feel guilty as heck!

LMAO I'm the same way. I HATE throwing them away unless they are torn or something, it just feels wasteful! I have been known to wear the monthly ones for up to ~whispers~ 6 months.

What type of person are you attracted to now?
by Layla33 ini was just thinking about this the other day, about how my ideas of a romantic partner have changed since being a jw.. growing up, i thought i would marry a very upstanding jw, we would pioneer together, do missionary work, have children, see the world.
(never had any thoughts about bethel, though.
) so what it boiled down to was a stepford husband, up tight, not the least bit sexual, closed minded bore.. so now that i have grown up, seen the world, been married (and actually picked a good man the first time, although it didn't work out), i just contrast that with what i am attracted to now.. i like them open minded, earthy, i love artistic types because i am a published writer, hair doesn't matter to me (long/short, bald, etc), challenges convention, very sexual, still like a traveling man.. i am just curious if you anyone else can compare and contrast how their ideas have changed since breaking out the group-think of the jw organization..

I've always been one for the nice guys. I've never understood why women want bad boys. Gimme a man who treats me right anytime!

Who did you/do you want to be when you grew up?
by Crumpet inwhen i was 9 i wanted to be daisy duke from the dukes of hazzard, but had to put aside the dream when i realised my legs weren't going to ever get any longer.. when i was 12 i wanted to be ghandi, but realised wars wouldnt stop because i missed breakfast.. when i was 16 i decided that by leaving the borg and living fast and hard enough being alice cooper was achievable.. now i'm 32 i think i'd quite like to have the sensuous, striking confidence and certainty of helen mirren when i grow up.. who did you want to be and why?.

You are wrong Peter Pan, growing up is the best!
I never wanted to be another person but I hoped to be an attorney when I grew up. Then we became dubs and that wish went out the door!

Have You Ever Been Stalked?
by eclipse ini am not refering to the elders staking out a house to see if you're in there alone with another person who isn't your mate.. .
i am talking about 'regular stalkers' who stalk you for the obsessive psychological reason of needing to be near you physically.. ever been followed?.
ever had the feeling someone was looking through your windows?.
