  A New Breed Of JW Emerging?

  is there a new breed of jw emerging, i wonder?.

  i know that there are lots of real brainwashed dubs around who see demons behind every car boot sale item and who scuttle off to the elders with every bit of tittle-tattle imaginable, but, i think that there is a new type of dub who quietly does just as he / she pleases.. this is what i think: many of the long-serving jw's who have seen the 1975 failure and the 1914 generation change are now approaching old age with something of a jaundiced eye, and are choosing to do their own thing in their remaining years.

  in conversations i am picking up it seems that the elders are being regarded somewhat derisively by many jw's.

  I seem to remember an article in the WT/Awake about traditions or something like that (sorry to be so vague) it was about 2 years ago...teeny tiny article. They said that certain traditions that at ONE time had been considered of pagan origin might no longer be considered BAD if they were not commonly associated with it's pagan/false religious origin. It used some foreign (aka not US) customs as examples...I believe it might have used throwing rice at weddings also. I will try to find this article and post it....

  Anyway brought this up to some old-timer JW's and mentioned that this might eventually apply to B-days....they totally flipped out! lol could be the reason the borg are trying to slip it in very very slowly...

  My "hardline" JW sis refuses to celebrate other people's anniversaries...not good to focus to much attention on anyone, you know. Funny though she doesn't mind RECEIVING presents on her anniversary, just refuses to give anything or even acknowlege other peoples...can you say CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP

  last night i awoke from a restless sleep.

  it was probably around three in the morning.

  i heard the patio furniture moving around and thought we might be having some wind gusts.

  uuumm I don't know how to break it to you petty but the tella-tubbies ARE EVIL!!!!! They were designed to drive parents INSANE!!!!

  Oh and lets don't forget pokemon...the NEW and IMPROVED EVIL...have you ever had to listen to Pikachu say Pika Pika Pika over and over and over.....(sob)

  Great observation Englishman! I spend a lot of time with my neice (21) and nephew (19) who are JW's and have noticed a trend with them and their friends. They go to the meetings and (lol) drag out into service, but they are mostly paying lip service to the org. In speaking with them I find they tend to believe the basic doctrine of the JW's but feel they are to restrictive. They also feel comfortable doing what they feel is right for them as long as they continue to believe in Jehovah and attend the meetings.

  They still continue to do what they want and the interesting part is that when they get caught they only get a slight slap on the wrist for things that 10 years ago would have gotten them d/f or at the least publically reproved.

  Will be interesting to see what the next few years bring....

  Just as a side note, personally I believe you are going to see them letting up on the B-day issue. I already heard from one pioneer sister that at their "school" they were told that it was ok to celebrate b-days as long as you kept it small and didn't let it get around...

  Who wrote the Bible?

  it puts forward the veiw that the ot was put together by someone during the babylonain captivity.

  very interesting.. one point that i wanted to share is this.

  Hello Uncle Onion,

  Another book you might find of interest is "Myths of the Bible" by Gary Greenberg...he basically asserts that the Bible writers used the myths and legends of the neighboring culture to build the foundation of the monotheistic religions of today.

  It is pretty interesting, some of the research is a little faulty, but the premise is interesting.

  I remember when I got pregnant with my daughter. I cried and cried. lol a respectable married woman scared to tell her parents she was pregnant because they might be disappointed in her. How sad is that? Thanks to the WT I felt guilty for wanting to have a child. My husbands grandmother told us "Not to expect any help" and "Weren't we aware of the WT stand on having children during the last days"..can you feel the love?

  Funny though if all the JW's took their advice where would they get the majority of their new recruits from??? We used to joke we were having a kid cause it was the only way for us to get a study. Looking back it seems to be true for a lot of JW's!

  JW Children: Feeling alone and sad

  friday many american schools recited the pledge of allegiance to the nation's flag simultaneously, at 2pm eastern time (8am in hawaii).

  to be sure, the pressure on children of jw's was great because of the nationalistic feelings that have swept america in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks.. should jw parents simply have removed their children for that afternoon?

  or perhaps armed them with a better explanation (about why they won't say the pledge) then "it's because of my religion"???.

  Just as a side note to Prisca they are also taught to put their right hand over their heart as they recite the pledge.

  Favorite Activity Since Leaving The Borg

  just about everyone i have talked to has started doing some different activities since leaving the borg.

  just out of curiousity what would be your favorite activity?.

  mine is flag football.
