We celebrate holidays but like you we have some JW family we don't want to totally offend so we keep it simple...we had a small tree last Christmas and kept it in the office until Christmas Eve then took it downstairs...didn't decorate the house...
This Halloween we carved a pumpkin but have it out in the back yard. My daughter is going to dress up and trick or treat, we just don't advertise it to the JW relatives...
This is our way of dealing with the situation, works for us so far. I think the longer we are out the more we will openly celebrate. I think/hope they will slowly become acustomed to it...
And I don't personally have any JW dreams

i have some thoughts on letters written to jws about problems in the organization.
it seems to me that many letters that i have read here are way to long and to fully docuemented.
I got a three page typewritten letter from my JW sister so I know first hand the response I would give to any LONG letters from someone who believes different from myself and/or is trying to change my way of thinking....and the response was aaaahhhhhh I don't want to read this...lol and then a courtesy skimming of the material.
So I do believe (yes there was a purpose to the above paragraph) that you have a good point larc about keeping things short, well thought out, simple and to the point. I decided that if I ever do write her back that is what I will do...hit a few major points briefly..then if she responds I can fill in more details in a later longer letter.

many people leave the wts after a short period, often only measured in weeks, of theological discovery.
it is not an easy matter to recognize that the belief system upon which your whole emotional persona has been built has serious flaws, some sinister in nature, and often this leads to a rapid confrontation with the elders.
letters, most of them depressingly repetitive in content hit service desks in local branches worldwide, a few weeks later a sterile announcement is made in a congregation and the apostate conveyor belt shifts forward slightly, waiting for its next victim.. suddenly many find themselves outside in the cold, with little support, often without friends, sometimes with fatally wounded marriages and above all a crippling sense of confusion as to what one should now adhere to as a belief system.. my plea in this post if for all those caught in that no-mans-land, between the wts and the deep blue sea, not to play by the rules thrust upon you, but to plot your own passage over the seas of what is your life, and yours alone.
This is a great thread Hillary, thanks for starting it! lol I am just now making my way out of no man's land myself and have this forum and another to thank for it.
The information and support I have gotten on here has been a big help not just for myself but in my efforts to help some of my family memebers open their eyes to the REAL "truth". That UN stuff is great and something that I probably never would have found out on my own! I was telling my nephew about it yesterday and I am sure he will filer it to my sister and who knows where it will go from there...
I know the wheels seem to move slowly, but sometimes we just have to be content with baby steps...
lol could be a lot worse, we could all still be sitting in a K-Hall with a glazed look on our faces...
