in which I can correspond freely and give and receive encouraging
speech from other.

Those who are trying to reach me, please desist. If necessary, I will

Dear Simon:

Know I am not being self righteous and you know it. I just am not
going to become a part of this little clique. What a bunch of losers.
All you have to do is complain. Oh please.... I would much rather be
sitting at a meeting now, than listening to this, if it were possible.

I see why some of the other friends left. Not enough spirituality in
here. I posted a message I wanted and, hopefully, will hear from
someone serious in the truth.

Dear Zazu:

Yes, this elder has helped me in many ways. I receive my own magazines, or have been receiving the WT again, but get the AW. I
suppose the friends would leave me magazines if I requested. I do not
burden them with things I can manage to do for myself. Health-wise
they have been there for me as well as some congregation members too
making house-calls (shepherding calls) to see about me and my children. Don't be so accusatory when it comes to the friends. That
is why I say to pay more attention to Jehovah's word and trust in him.
Many of the friends have had their feelings hurt because they tried
to fit into clicks or groups where they simply did not belong. It is
sometimes hard to find those in the congregation to trust as personal
friends, without someone letting your personal business out. I never
did that, because I was a single parent raising children and that kept
me busy, so I did not seek the constant close "girlfriend/sister"
type of relationship that sometimes does not work out for many of the
women in the congregation. I never had any problem with any of that.
Some felt I like to be to myself alot, and personally, I did not mind.
When you see how someone is personality-wise, it is best to be careful
about forming close relationships.

I, for one, do not feel that the friends are obligated to go overboard
in helping me, when I have asked for assistance, I have received it.
It's just that simple. Now, again, I ask if anyone is intrested in
letting me know what is happening at the meetings. Speaking of meetings, anyone attending this Sunday afternoon.

I do not have complaints about the way I am treated in any congregation I have ever atteneded because I mind my own business and
do not try to impose on others my beliefs. I have been in the congre-
gations, a few of them, enough to know what type of behavior prompts
that bitterness some of you women have about how you have been treated. That is why, also,in attempting to find a mate, I post exactly what I am looking for. Someone named Ms. Judy, e-mailed me
on the sly about a message I posted instead of letting everyone see
her response to me. I was not being improper to post it. Hopefully,
some black brothers will respond that will understand my situation.
I do not believe she was disabled but responded anyway. She was not
the type of person, I was inviting into that type of a discussion.

Dear Seven:

No, I have never been raped but have belonged to an organization here
in my small town (with a larger branch in Minneapolis) where I volun-
teer time in legal advocacy. I have personally dealt with rape victims, their families, the police and hospital staff in helping to
resolve rape calls from crisis line victims. I have been on call 24-7
for weekends which run from Friday after regular office closing hours
continously until Monday morning at 8 a.m. During the week, advocates
are on duty after 4:30 pm. until 8 am. next morning. I've worked
as front line advocate and had to pick up calls as a backup (for any
given week, there is always a backup advocate in case frontline cannot
be reached). I went through training to learn to do this. We all
received a newsletter updating us constantly on new laws put into
effect protecting rape victims, domestic violence issues, child abuse,
homosexuality, lesbianism, gays, and other issues as well.

Some of the other advocates, came to the organization (P.A.V.S.A.)
Program for the Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault because of their own
personal experience, or that of loved ones, others merely to learn and
help others and themselves -- all professed a need to know and to try
to understand what rape is all about and the legal/court law issues
involved. Sometimes, the courts are not so accommodating to rape
victims, and other assaultive issues as well. Fortunately, I was
able with authorities help to aid my clients in having their assailants locked up.

You having been through that type of an experience, I REALLY don't
understand you joking about rape. Sorry, sister, it just ain't funny.
One of the older women advocates was raped early in life and spent
much of her adult years as an alocoholic. She has started her own
group of similar participants, who understand personally what she has
gone through. Some have been hurt physically, others have not, but
those that have deal with their pain and do not look badly upon us
who have not had their pain. They are pleased, we can all try to
understand and prevent others from suffering.

I think I have made my point.

I think the way you feel about Jehovah's organization, could be damaging to you spiritually. It is a good way of life. And, also you
cannot put yourself in the place of anyone else to say that others in
these discussion forums feel like you do.

If you think the organization does not do well to represent Jehovah,
then why are you a witness. What you say is contradictory and makes
no sense. You do not sound as if you are ready and able to make a de-
fense for your faith. I refuse to believe that the protection I have
received from Jehovah and his heavenly organization, is to be taken
lightly, as being the same as what someone in Christendom believes,
they adhere to a faith that they know is lacking.

Do not presume that I agree with what you say. I am older and have
seen more of life, but at the same time, I am not disappointed.

O.K. Waiting?

I wrote before and used the name Jedi, I believe. I do not have
answers to the questions you brought up about rape... and some of the
policies adhered to by the WTBTS, perhaps you can write them about
your concerns, I have on many occasions, as I've had many questions
in the past that helped me through some rough times. Or, perhaps a
congregation elder would understand your questions about the society
(or would they? do you question that?). Many of us have been through
a lot and are still having to suffer to some degree. All the more
reason to continue in the word as closely as possible. I cannot stres
that enough, simply because it works. When a person has been half
our of their mind (as I've been) believe me, nothing comes before
Jehovah and me trying to do what is right. I've never felt fear so
much in my life as when I had a nervous breakdown. I don't see how
anyone can take the healthy teaching lightly. With what you are suf-
fering, perhaps it is your medication that has you thinking the way
you do. When I was on mine, my thoughts wandered and I was unable to
concentrate fully on meetings and lessons. I am now off medication and hope to fully recover someday. I still experience hallucinations,
but not as badly as before. Could be you may need your medication
for life, if so, Jehovah understands. Only you know exactly how you
feel and Jehovah will help you.

Dear Seven:
There are some things that a faithful servant of Jehovah simply does
not do. Sometimes it is hard to always remain respectful, especially
when matters of the heart can easily overwhelm one's good sense. But,
what you have done defiles yourself as a woman. I wonder how persons
you meet in your door-to-door ministry would view you, as being a
witness, if they heard some of your coarse "jokes." You misrepresent
Jehovah by your foul mouth, and if I were someone you were speaking
to about Jehovah and knew how you conducted yourself in the kingdom
hall, I would not listen to you speaking about the bible. Do not
kid yourself, there are faithful friends, who know exactly how you
feel about Jehovah, inspite of your "showing" at the hall as a faithful witness.

Serious Question

as we all know the society has very strict guidelines regarding conduct between the sexes.

in the cong i grew up in, it was so small-minded that if you were single, and seen talking to a member of the opposite sex, you were presumed to be in some sort of relationship with him/her.. sex before marriage is out of the question, with heavy petting also looked down upon.

dating is a serious affair, with all onlookers expecting engagement/marriage to be the outcome.

Thank you for responding to my reply. I am kind of surprised you
agree. I am older and am speaking just from being in the truth for
14 years of what I have seen, heard and how sometimes the friends try
to play "matchmaker," as that has happened to me twice. As yet, I am
unmarried. I was able to gracefully avoid the situation, because I
was not raised in the truth, had been in the world, etc. and I knew
what my particular needs were. That helps!! Many of the younger
brothers and sisters that marry in the truth, do not know and what you
have said if quite true. They are unable to understand sexual feelings at such a young age. I've seen older brothers marry young
sisters - while the elders just let it happen.

I recently received a marriage proposal from an old boyfriend. Yes
he was my FIRE!! years ago, but now, although I still have feelings
for him, he has lead a very bad life. He is now baptist, which is his
way of finding solace from his wrongdoings. Yet, I know deep down he
is not for me. It is a crucial time in the life of me and my kids and
for me to align myself with a worldly man would not be in their best
interests. Besides I'm afraid to do so, because I know we really
would not get along. He's been through a lot, but I do not fool
myself into thinking that sex would make it all right. I know we are
too different. Jehovah has blessed me. I have a more than substantial income and have been off work for some time. My kids work
and are in high school. My oldest son keeps in touch, though he has
not served Jehovah for many years. He now has a 5 year old daughter,
at age 27. I love him dearly, yet, he is baptized and has strayed
from righteousness, I welcome him with open arms, because he tells me
all the time that the world is a mess.

If it were just me, I would probably be thinking seriously about the
proposal, but my children keep me "grounded." It is one thing to hurt
yourself, but something entirely different to hurt someone else. That
may be something that they will never understand, but more importantly, it is something that would tear me apart.

Hello Jedi:

Working this from back to front I will try to remember as many things
as you have mentioned. Yes, in a very real sense, I do have a common
ground with my children. Being a single parent, we have been through
some very heart-wrenching times. For example, my two teenagers, who
were 16 and 17 at the time were responsible for getting their mother
help when I had "lost it," and was going through a nervous breakdown
and was not aware of it. It was probably the hardest thing that they
have had to do so far in making that type of decision. I've always
been head of my household and, am a very strong person. At first I
resented them having done so, even after I found out why. But, they
did not understand either and it frightened them to see me so scared.
Needless to say, for children that can deal with something that close
to home anything else is child's play. My teenagers are worldly, as
I think I mentioned before, so yes, I'm still dealing with their
experiences in life. And, God's word always rings true in His reminders to us all, that following Jehovah's way is the best way.
Nuff said about that.

Jokes about homosexuals, etc. definitely have no place in kingdom
halls. How someone would even venture to make such indecent talk
public in God's house is beyond me! Some elders will listen and others will "go along with what is happening," as all congregations
are not the same!!!!!!!! As mentioned before, they differ in the
same city and they definitely differ from state to state. Worldly
speech and mannerism have defnitely infiltrated Jehovah's organization, as has AIDS, brothers and sisters marrying those not in
the truth, rape, and everything else that plagues the world. We are
definitely not immune to such influences. But that does not make it
right. I am sorry that you feel it does!!!!!

I would not want to belong to your congregations where such conduct
occurs openly and freely. If I did, I would not participate or bring
such dirty talk to an elder, if for no other reason, out of simple
respect.
