Robyn,
sorry, REM, I believe that 18, 19 and 20 year olds are children. It doesn't matter if they are 25, they are still the children of their parents. Regardless of the age of the "professionals", they were put into that war because of a lie. There were no WMD in Iraq and Sadam was not a threat to the American way of life.
You're just wrong on this issue darlin. Sure, perhaps your average 19 year old flipping burgers at Mccy D's is not an adult...These soldiers are. They are more mature than their counter parts by a whole lot. The are also professionals. No one twisted our arms or forced us to join. I'm still my mommies child, but I made a choice. You seem to think that at this age they are incapable of making the decision to join the military and fight...yet don't seem to think they're too young to vote, or have sex, or have an abortion. You need to get to know these soldeirs better before making such an unwarranted judgement.
As to the war issue....darlin, like the 9-11 commission observed THERE WAS NO LIE...get over it...like Moore needs to. Bad intelligence? I'm with you ALL DAY LONG on that issue...a LIE...well for it to be a lie it would require that Bush and his administration KNEW the intelligence was wrong...the 9-11 Commission here, the Lord Butler commission in the UK, and Vlad Putin all said that these intelligence services thought the WMD were there because of the intelligence they had gathered.
Saddam had WMD, we know that, he used them....against his own people...and against the US in the first gulf war. HE never accounted for them as was required under the UN resolutions. He was in violation of all 17 UN resolutions...he was in violation of the Cease Fire agreement with the US...he had tried to kill a former US President...he supported terrorists (though had no part that we can detect in 9-11)...Vlad Putin said he was even planning terror attacks against and in the US....but all that aside, sure...I see your point....NOT.
