Kwanzaa and Festivus
by slipnslidemaster inthe question is: can jehovah's witnesses celebrate kwanzaa or festivus?
two completely fabricated holiday's created during the 20th century.
one is serious, the other a farce.. will you get in trouble at the hall for celebrating them?

A New Guy from Chicago with a Story to Tell
by Reborn2002 infirst of all id like to say hello to everyone on this website, and to thank and acknowledge each and every one of you for your individuality, personal experience, and in some cases, commitment to truth.. having read some of the heartfelt topics and posts here have served to be a great encouragement to me, more than some could imagine.
my name is jason, and i am a recovering ex-jw.. i guess this would be an ideal time to tell my life story as an abbreviated version, so here goes.. i was "born into, or raised" in the organization.
my grandfather was an elder for 45 years, and served as one of the very first jw in the south chicagoland suburbs.

I'm not surprised that the elders encouraged the girl to lie about being out of town
Of course you are only assuming that the girl lied. How do we know she lied? Oh because this Reborn guy says so. We cannot be sure of what happened when we hear just one side of the story. Am I a little paranoid? maybe, but again here is a guy that was accused of raping a young girl. He says it did not happen, he only spent the night in her bed. He says that the girl lied to cover up and make her look innocent. If that was true, she would say the same thing he is saying, that it was all innocent and nothing happened. Why would she degrade herself by saying he raped her? It doesn't make sense.

Some of You Know's words are coming true
by YoYoMama ini just read this in yahoo about the huge economic problems that argentina is facing: http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20011219/wl/argentina_economy.html.
this is something that you know said that was going to happen and that it would be the start of future economic downfall all over the world.

You are right Joel. What the Argentinean people are going through is very scary. I think the problem is that all economic systems are so interrelated, they feed off each other, that one collapse and the whole thing will be in trouble.

What if there was not DFing of apostates?
by YoYoMama ini was wondering today.
what if the witnesses did not have a policy of disfellowshipping those that are apostates.
what would the congregations be like?
-

I understand the points, but still doesn't the Apostle Paul teach the practice of shunning?

Some interesting comments here. So what I am understanding that it's not really a problem with being disfellowshipped or excommunicated, but the problem lies in shunning?

I was wondering today. What if the Witnesses did not have a policy of disfellowshipping those that are apostates. What would the congregations be like? Would there be unity?
I understand many here were DFed for apostasy and are against this policy. We could also go one step forward, what if there would be no disfellowshippings at all, for any reason. What then?

Well, there went the positive message.
ChuckD says
From what I gather, he spends a lot more time being pissed-off about something than he does being happy.
Unfortunately is seems that way, but rightly so.this happy god destroyed thousands of persons in biblical times and is planning on killing billions more at some future "armageddon" date. He is jealous and vengeful. He deserves worship, dagnabbit!! He is going to kill the infant children of non-believers!!! No one will stand in his way. There will be no where to hide!!!
This is true, puppylove. He did destroy, actually millions, in the past. But Jehovah never acts without proper warning. The people in Noahs day had 120 years to listen to Noah and join him. The people of Canaan had over 400 years to make changes. Well actually the Gabaonites (spelling?) did listen and took the necessary actions in order to gain salvation. Jehovah sent many prophets and messengers to the Israelites and begged them to stop their evilness before he allowed the Asyrians and then the Babylonians to conquer them.Namewitheld says:
just as soon as he zaps several billion people
Yes it sounds bad, but is it? Jehovah has given ample time for humans to do what is right. -

Reborn: I see nothing wrong with the questions the three elders asked you. I mean here is a young girl saying she was raped. What are the elders to do? Of course they have to investigate to see if it's true or not. Rape is a serious crime. And what questions where they going to ask? You're telling them that you slept with her in her bed. The next logical questions are the ones they asked. By the way you are reacting, it makes your story a bit fishy. I'm not saying your guilty, it just sounds fishy.
Now you say that you DA'ed yourself. So what was the outcome of the judicial committee? If you were not disfellowshipped, the elders must have believed what you testified to.

Victor: No, not to preach. I thought that some would appreciate a positive message.
