He will eventually see the value of the literature. I do not have to push it on him.

metatron: Can you prove your allegations without asking me to go buy a book?
jayhawk: I might and I might not. The Bible study has not ended yet, he is a very sincere man and is learning a lot. The study ends when he tells me that he is not interested anymore. That has not happened.

When was the last time you just used your Bible and nothing else in service?
I use the literature because it is a great tool. About a month ago, a householder asked me to only use the Bible. I explained many things just using the Bible and he accepted a Bible study, but without literature. I've gone every week since then and have had some great discussions. He is a humble man and uses his King James version to compare with mine.

If it wasn't for the books and magazines, you would have nothing to offer.
You are wrong. In Mexico, the Witnesses preached without any literature for years. They could not even use the Bible in public, so they memorized scriptures and used these in service. How many Witnesses are there in Mexico? In Argentina we did not use literature during the ban in late 70s, early 80s. We only used the bible in the ministry, and the publishers went from 30,000 before the ban to 100,000 after the ban.

Why are Witnessess persecuted? Most religions out there have this thing against Witnesses. Many will do anything to get them banned or to shut their mouths. Even in news articles, if someone did something and they are JWs, it will be mentioned. If they were members of any other religion, no mention of their affiliations are made. Why is that?

My Story ..A Walk Through The Garden. part 1
by radar inwhen jehovahs witnesses first started calling on my wife and i, we knew very little about the bible.
the message that this world with all its wickedness and suffering was soon to end and be replaced by a new order under the rulership of christ jesus was very appealing to me.
to believe that god had a purpose for mankind, gave my life a new direction.. acceptance of watchtower doctrine along with its rules and regulations is expected of any that wish to be baptized.

What is Truth?
by Victor_E insince leaving the tower some seven years ago i took a leap building my wings of faith on the way down.
i have enjoyed some of your posts on faith, truth, and lifes purpose yada yada yada.
i have concluded that the truth about my existence lies somewhere in between being a hybrid human/alien product to being a son of god with a meaningful purpose.

We should be ready to revise any belief, we should change a belief where there is compelling reason to change it, and we should not change a belief wantonly without some good reason. The first point needs intellectual courage, the second, intellectual honesty, and the third, wise restraint.
And yet apostates keep criticizing the WTBTS for changes they make.

1 Thess. 5:19 "Do not put out the fire of the spirit."
Commentary:
Christians today have the assignment to preach the good news. We treat this privilege with deep respect. It comes as no surprise to us that those who do not know God treat our preaching work with contempt. But when a Christian purposely neglects his ministry, it might result in extinguishing the fire of God's motivating spirit. Some outside the Christian congregation may view our ministry as mere distribution of literature. If we allow such negative views to influence our attitude, this may reduce our effectiveness in the ministry. Rather, let us maintain the view that the apostle Paul voice when he declared: "We are not peddlers of the word of God as many men are, but as out of sincerity, yes, as sent from God, under God's view, in company with Christ, we are speaking. " - 2 Cor. 2:17. w7/1/00 9,10

radar: Although I do not agree with all your observations, I admit that it is well written.
Personally I also enjoy field service. Like you, I do not like knocking on empty homes, so I look for places where people are. One place in our town is home depot. I find many people that are willing to talk and hear the good news there. Our congregation has also organized phone witnessing. Everyone loves this type of service, specially on cold days.
Bringing my children up with moral values, gave me a sense of dignity and pride in my family life. Working along with others in Kingdom Hall construction, and seeing goodwill displayed, convinced me that I had found the true "Christian way" of life, often referred to by Jehovah’s Witnesses as the truth.
This is a beautiful thought.Over the years the continuous tune played over meeting attendance and regular field service, became monotonous to me.
I'm sorry that this was a problem for you. I personally enjoy the meetings very much. It is very refreshing to go to the meetings and at least for a short period of time forget about work, bills and other problems. I also like being around good people that love me. -

A Salute to the Kids of Dubdom
by Room 215 inas the unfortunate school-age children of jws worldwide, or at least in christendom, face up to two of what must certainly be the most dreaded days of the school year -- today and monday, i don't think it would be remiss to do pay them tribute -- the honor of a brief recognition of some sort, say by the raising of a glass, a prayer, a couple moments' reflection, whatever.. i refer to all those of the trembling knees, quivering lips, moistened eyes and hollow feelings in the pits of their little tummies as they loyally face up to the humiliation of standing aside from the masses of christmas celebrants among their school friends.
how they must agonize over dealing with the incessant questions of their mates about ``what are you going to do this christmas," ``what did santa bring you?
'' -- not to mention listening to the spirited banter of their school friends recounting how much fun they had and what they found under tree christmas morning, etc.

You talk without knowing the whole story. My family emmigrated to the US when I was 12, so we had Kmarts here. My father did all he could to sustain and provide for all of us. We were 7 in total.
they could have gotton an education and a better job
My father came into the truth in his forties. Unfortunately he did not have the opportunites that we have here in the US. He quit school to find work and help feed his family. So your statement here is total ignorance on your part.
