  i'd be interested in hearing some of the exjw's door-to-door experiences.

  i've probably had the saturday morning door knocking...maybe 6-8 times.

  i've never been "rude" except for once...when i had a particularly aggressive pair who wouldn't take "no thank you" for an answer.

  99.99% of the JWs hate it with a passion.

  It's fine to post your personal feelings about the preaching work, but to speak in behalf of 99.99% of Witnesses is just silly. I'm sure some do not enjoy it, they would rather be doing other things, but the majority do enjoy it. Some might not like door-to-door work, but they enjoy informal witnessing. A popular facet of the preaching work today is phone witnessing. Some hate it others love it as they can be sitting in the Hall sipping on a cup of coffee (or tea for our British friends) while they talk to people.

  Are the WTBS the modern day Pharisees and Saducees

  i've been thinking about this for sometime now and i wanted to know how other people felt about this comparison.

  the pharisees were known for hypocrisy and for also promoting traditions of men and other non-bibical teachings.

  when we look at the wtbs in light of the actions of the pharisees there are some amazing similarities.

  I came into the thread and oh my god I was right. What is there to expect from apostates but to slam the GB and all those that take the lead in the organization?

  it was nothing more than regrouping after their prophecy (presented as "Jehovah's prophetic word") about Armageddon coming during the lifetime of the 1914 generation had fallen flat on its face.

  Yes, you might me right, it probably made them realize that further analysis was needed. But can you see how they arrived at the previous understanding? When reading the scriptures regarding the generation, it made sense what they believed. Maybe it wasn't right, but it kind of made sense. Now with the new understanding, the prophetic word can be understood correctly.

  So they just made up a new meaning for the word "generation," and *poof*! Problem solved!

  Did they make up a new meaning? If you reread the article that explained the new understanding, you can look up the greek meaning of the word used and follow along with the article.

  So they did not make up a "new truth", they researched, analyzed the old understanding and updated it.

  At least JWs keep progessing in their Bible knowledge. We don't get stuck in centuries old doctrines at all cost. If research shows that we are wrong on a particular subject, it will be changed.

  logical: it is Biblical. Jesus instructed his apostles who in turn instructed others. He also used Paul to instruct elders which in turn instructed the members of each individual congregation.

  Were the early christians to be obedient to the elders?

  What is the problem with the book that elders use? Most topics there are also considered in Watchtowers that are read by the public. The only thing the book is useful for is that collects all pertinent information into one book so that they can use the information instead to searching through all those Watchtowers. And the topics covered are related to the responsability that they hold. Pioneers also have a book that they are given during pioneer school, this book also covers topics that are useful for those that take the lead in the preaching work. Publishers also have a secret book, that the public should do not get offered, which is the Organization book. Why is it only for JWs? Because it covers organizational procedures that only a Witness will understand. So the book thing is no big deal, just an excuse for apostates to attack the Watchtower and insist that they are showing favoritism.

  extra-spiffy? All JWs are encouraged to dress extra-spiffy for the meatings as a show of respect to Jehovahs house of worship. Come on you have to admit that if you walked into a kingdom hall, you would not recognize an elder unless someone pointed him out or he walked up to the stage.

  HA, what a moron! (sorry Simon for that one). Bethelites get $90 (in the US) per month for their personal expenses. How much do clergy from all other religions make?

  How much does the Watchtower pay local elders?

  By the way, all CO expenses are paid by the World Wide Work fund, if you're going to throw out stupid accusations, get the facts right. The circuit no longer pays for their insurance, cars, etc...

  And why can't the body of elders hold meetings in private? You're so stupid, you want to be there to snoop and listen in on them. Do you do that at work with managers, vp's, or the ceo when they have meetings?

  Also, when you walk into a Catholic church, how can you tell who the pastor or priest is?

  When you walk into a Kingdom Hall, can you tell off the bat who the elders are?

  There's your difference.
