Thanks for responding Blondie. I'm not sure that he was talking about the bookstudy. If I remember him correctly, this was a filming of the talk. It's been so long since I've attended meetings but I thought the talk is usually given at the hall. But of course, I could have heard him incorrectly.

Has anyone heard anything about this portion of the meeting being videotaped? I spoke to my brother recently and he assures me that this was done in his congregation as proof of the process of signing being voluntary of something to that effect.

Hypothetical Question on Adultery

Hmmm,
Of course I am!
Utopian_Raindrops,
Now that I've had a chance to really read your post, let me tell you that I really enjoyed the humour! A hearty welcome to you and let me assure you that, in my life at present, I am definitely making love to Fernando the Matador!
Sounds like you have been to hell and back and I can definitely relate, even to the mother expression. At one time my ex-husband did confess to adultery although he offered no details but then he later recanted his story to the elders and, newly baptized person that I was, I didn't know I could simply write a letter and be free from the abusive marriage. I once did some research on abuse in marriage but when I presented it to the elders they counseled sisters from the platform to refrain from doing research through the old bound volumes looking for loopholes to get out of their marriages. I am flabbergasted to learn I could have been free years earlier than it took. On the other hand, everything has worked out even better than it might have if I had divorced at that time. I might have married another dub and remained imprisoned instead of just dating a devilishly wicked apostate matador.
I was trying to subtly demonstrate to the jw the unreasonableness of some of the organization's rules, notably the 2 witnesses rule. It didn't help that neither of us has been doing our reading. I, however, have an excuse: it's been almost 10 years since I've attended and I have no idea of their present light on a variety of subjects.
P.S Are you still waiting on the new system?
Minimus,
I'd bet the elders would interrogate the innocent sister more so than the guilty brother.
Farkel,
Like Utopian_Raindrops, I think the society punishes the reporters in an effort to protect some big guns deep within Brooklyn itself.
Gizmo,
In the Elders eyes maybe not, but who cares what they think, you don't worry about them you worry what God thinks!
That's a sentiment the society espouses in theory but not in practice.

Had a moment to pop in from work. Thanks for responding. Are you guys sure there is a first person account letter policy in place for such a situation? I've never heard of such a thing and apparently the jw at work who I was discussing this situation with hasn't either. Her reply was to wait upon Jehovah to reveal the wrongdoing and I disagreed with her response, not seeing the necessity of waiting. Is this policy regional?
Thanks for your helpful responses as I will continue my discussion with her this evening when most of the staff are gone.
Utopian_raindrops, can I email you?

Is the marriage vow considered broken by Jehovah? Understandably, it will require two witnesses to get the elders to act against the brother. However, given that the woman was witness to the event, SHE knows that adultery has taken place. According to WT doctrine, is the sister scripturally free to divorce and remarry?
Also, if the brothers don't accept the woman's word as sufficient for divorce and the woman continues to cohabit, would she be required and/or can she be disciplined by the brothers for failing from that point to render the marriage due?
Also, consider if the sister, unable to divorce, remains with the fornicating husband and does have sex with him. If the brother later feels remorse and confesses to the brothers about the adultery, does the sister's sexual acquiescence constitute forgiveness on her part due to her having had sex when she KNEW he had fornicated?
Has any of this been discussed at length in any of the society's literature? Does anyone know of any similar situations?

I live in So. California. I flew out to Phoenix for a wedding in late June 2001. Now I know it's the desert but it was June for Christ's sake! No way anyplace in America should be 116 freakin' degrees in June!! I had to brace myself everytime we left the hotel. The sun beat down and drained all my energy after only an hour out and about.
We finally stated the obvious to a native, "It's hotter than hell here!' To which he replied, "No, this IS hell!" I'm anemic and am generally cold but I really don't know how you guys do it.

Disassociating inactive ones?
by madison149 ina few days ago someone wrote about a new rule that came out in elders school this summer about inactive ones still being accountable to jehovah's (watchtower) rules.
does this mean that they are going to start disassociating ones who have been inactive for years who are not upholding the rules?
i know of a few people who have not attended meeting in several years who either celebrate holidays or in other ways break the rules and everybody knows it.

Along with Abaddon's comment (welcome back BTW), I remember talks being given in which it was stressed that if you're not witnessing (preaching), then you cannot be a witness. Do you think this approach might work? I am expecting a call anyday myself, unless I am already DA"D/DF'd and unaware of it.
I've been pondering on what I will say when asked the pivotal question. Is there anyone who has been successful at avoiding DF'ing without responding 'yes' to the question? So far, I plan to respond that I consider myself an inactive Jehovah's Witness.
