Unfortunately your post is all too true Simon. And, our newly Supreme Court appointed president is not strong on this issue. At least three of his
cabinet picks have, at one time or another, even ridiculed the idea of global warming. His new EPA chief does acknowledge/support it's danger, but since her appointment has been critized outright by at least two of the other
cabinet picks, and particularly the
new Attorney General, I'm afraid this will be a very weak administration on this issue.

Indeed I do Frenchy, the trouser frames came out in the early '60s - they did do the job, but remember what a 'bear' it was trying to get wet pants over them! They did look nice though - and I remember getting so frustrated w/ larc when he would throw them on the floor at night. When I was a youngin' it was my job to put the "ice sign" in the window to let the iceman know how many pounds we needed for the icebox -and my Kentucky relatives all had outhouses - I was always worried about spiders biting my butt!

Hi Wayne,
Saw your story on AJWRB and truly felt for you. I'm not much of a poster so far, (cause larc, my hubby, hogs the keyboard, eh) but I think you will like this forum. It's a great place to express your feelings and relate to the experience of others. Check out JAVA's bio - his wife also turned him in. It's quite a process of adapting when your thrust out of the organization - but I think brighter days will surface for you - hang in there friend...I think you'll have a better life in the near future in all ways. -

I give applause to any person who tries poetic endeavors. Not bad at all - keep it up. Do you have any favorite poets?

What is a false prophet?
by Scorpion ini have been to many different sites in the last four years regarding religion.
i find it amusing that when a leader or founder of a movement takes upon the role of someone who speaks for god, and then what the founder said as "supposed" truth from god fails, they back peddle and try to give new meaning to what was really meant to begin with.. i myself look at charles taze russell (bible students), joseph smith (lds), ellen g. white (adventists), and others that took upon themselves as spokesmen for god, as false prophets according to deutoronomy 18:20-22.. of course those that follow such movements will at times say that what was said by the leaders actually happened in a way different than what was actually intended, when actually it was a clear failure as to what was supposed to take place according to the founder or leader of the movement.
i would be interested in opinions as to what anyone believes what a false prophet is to them.. just because someone does not come out and say: i am a prophet for god, does not excuse them (imo) from the failures they spoke and mislead people with.. what are your opinions.

Oops - just saw larc's posting above and just a minute ago I had posted it under Seven's topic "Jesus or Jehovah."
I came across it on another site and showed it to larc - the 'old man' beat me to it! Just like him, ha. If he wasn't taking a nap I would give him what for - but I'm enjoying the peace and quiet too much - y'all know he is the talker! Besides I'm not sure I would consider this "false prophesy" - more like 'running off at the mouth' -
an organization that prints too much and can't even remember what they said previously. -

Jesus or Jehovah?
by Seven ini ran across this on truthsearcher.
i would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.. __________.
who is the "alpha and omega" and the first and last"-jesus or jehovah?.
-
ZazuWitts
Came across this on another site---so thought I'd throw it out here for all to see and/or comment on.
Regarding the Alpha and Omega (Rev.22:13-15) the organization has apparently waffled back and forth:
Watchtower Alpha & Omega is:
7-01-'55 Jesus 11-15-'67 Jehovah
10-01-'78 Jesus 12-01-'99 JehovahPerhaps some of you who have access to
these magazine issues could check it out. -

Christmas Greeting!
by RR ina few years ago i met a women, former jw from queens, ny, she had left the society for various reasons, one of course, was the 'lack of love' within the congregation.. she started her own greetings card company for xjws, called great crowd greetings.. in going through my stuff, [the never ending, some day i'll get this basement cleaned up] i came across a card she sent me during christmas 1996.. on the cover it reads:.

Judicial Defense ?
by thinker init occurs to me that this forum has a vast resource of knowledge and experience.
i'd like to suggest we put our heads together and find possible defenses for active witnesses facing a judicial committee.
with frenchy's intimate knowledge of committee rules and rr's huge library, along with everyone's individual experience; we we should be able to build a logical defense (assuming logic is a useful tool to jw's).. from my own research, i have put together a logical defense for an active jw who wishes to associate with a da'd friend.

Hello to All. I've been skulking around this site for a couple of weeks and have decided to join in the conversation.
Thinker - I have found your postings to be most intriguing. I think you are a rare man to take such an interest in your spouses' religious background and how this has affected her and others.
I have known others in this situation and their former witness spouse responded by saying such as: "Get over it; "Stop whining about it."
And, to 'wife' I'm am so happy that you had enough of a spark left that after the mental abuse you endured you could reach out and seek a better life.
Good - no, GREAT for both of you.Unfortunately, Thinker, I must agree with Path, TMS, and Simon that such an approach is very unlikely to work. At a judicial committee you are there to answer their questions, they are not their to answer yours. In fact such an approach would only confirm to them that you have rejected "Mother's milk"
and render them more righteous in their decision to disfellowship.
I've have listened to a dozen secretly recorded tapes of judicial committee meetings - all sad and bleak!...and
predictable. However, some discussion of the points you raised might be of benefit to those contemplating leaving or help them to clarify their doubts.
Actually, we took Simon's path - avoid them at all costs. (I acknowledge that this is not always possible.) At any rate, it gave us many years of contact with those we loved as well as time to renew ourselves and clarify what we felt and believed. (I will post more details in "Hello, Hello...." shortly.)
The mandates of the TOWER did eventually catch up with us, and it looks as if this might be happening again in lieu of the recent 'oral'
utterances at the district assemblies.
But, I'm grateful we had some hiatus -
and Simon it's probably a good thing you are literally distancing yourself!I've always thought that the following quote from Winston Churchill is most apt for the WTBS:
"Success is going from failure
to failure without losing
enthusiam."
