Thank you!! - a very significant 'snoop' for certain. Concrete proof that the organization is distancing itself from any forthcoming liability and will leave the elders holding the bag.

If these notes are of recent origin it is probably a reaction to the Dateline program, where Bill Bowen had them on tape implicating themselves decidedly in the molestation cover-up issues.

For any elders lurking - you might be well-advised to get yourselves clergy insurance because your beloved organization is not going to come to your aid. You will be left holding the full brunt of any legal action...and your pockets are not deep enough to handle such litigation. You are being used and abused by WTBTS directives and I hope you can see it.

COFFEE OVERDOSE!!!

wow!.

i've only had about ten cups of coffee in my entire life (i'm 30 now).

last night i didn't get to bed until 2:30 a.m. so i was dragging about an hour ago.

Believe me, I'm laughing with you not at you. I will never forget having my first full cup of coffee. I too was in my early 30s. I had to stay up late to type a written assignment for Larc, who was in graduate school at the time.

Round about midnight I could barely keep my eyes open. Sooo, made myself a cup of instant (yuk) coffee. Wow, did it perk me right up - had another and was really flying.

By morning, the assignment was completed and I was still so wired; remember taking our young son to a park and while he was playing with the other children, I ran and ran and ran around the racing oval. When we returned home, I put him down for a nap and crashed myself.

The experience put me off regular coffee drinking for a few more years - went back to hot tea.

Eventually picked up the habit, it is so addictive, and now even grind my own beans. I love the stuff, but it does cause an elevation in blood pressure, which I have to monitor due to medical problem, so limit it to a couple of mugs most of the time. (Bringing grinder w/ me T.)

Hope you come down off your 'high' without any unsavory consequences. :)

Hmmmmm, sounds familiar - perhaps a line from Star Wars? But I think it was 'a disturbance in the FORCE, not forest. But what do I know, maybe a play on words Hawk? Please don't keep us in suspense too long...this sounds prophetic.

A local radio station just reported on this story, saying that today's edition of the "New York Times" international news has an article that two of the JW's in this group of six Witnesses, have been beheaded! Both were men, and their severed heads were displayed in an open air market, with a note calling them 'infidels.'

I Have a Question

my proclaimer's book is in storage right now, but i did a post some years ago on a picture in that book.

it's the picture of the dubs sitting down listening to joe rutherford rant and rave at one of the "7 trumpet" assemblies in the 1920's.

if you look at the picture, you will see that all females had their heads covered, and many of the head coverings were what looked like doilies or paper napkins!

Regarding that specific picture, I'm suggesting that the napkin appearing items, were cloth hankies. I remember in the early 50's attending summer conventions where many woman would plop a hankie on top of their heads to offer some 'scalp burn' protection from the sun. My lil' sis and I used to snicker at it, calling them 'snot hats'.

Also I have some old family pictures from the 1920s - family reunion pics that also show hankies atop the heads of family members - again probably to help deflect the sun.

Excellent POV film on PBS last night

i watched a very interesting and touching program on pbs last night (tuesday).

it portrayed a mormon family, the smiths, as they dealt with some very devastating circumstances.

the husband was a closeted gay for many years who ended up getting aids and bringing it home to his wife.

Preaching in Prisons

i recall as a child going with several brothers to the local prison so the brothers, normally elders could go in and preach to the prisoners.. we as children would stay in the car for what seemed like hours while the brothers carried out whatever preaching work they deemed fit.

this also included return visits.. does this still go on today?

do the brothers still visit inmates at prisons?.

I have some recollection of 'prison preaching' too.

The years 1972-76 were, of course, when the U.S. was heavily involved in Vietnam. Many 'brothers' were in prison serving sentances for their refusal to serve or accept alternate service.

I know in our local congregation, we had many who were serving time at Millcreek, W. Va. About every six weeks, a carload of males would make the trip there to see those JW's imprisoned from our area.

I'm sure those men tried to start studies with other inmates. So it perhaps makes sense that the more 'mature' men in the congregation also 'witnessed' to any inmates who displayed interest in JW belief.

Like you, I wonder if there are any current attempts to 'witness' in prisons. Personally, I doubt it - unless a prisoner has come in contact with JW literature and specifically requests a visit.

As a side note, what is so horrid about all this now, is that so many men were imprisoned during the Vietnam era, and now should a similar draft be enforced, the young brothers' can apparently accept non-combatant alternative placement? If this is in any way true, I wonder how those young JW men who did serve time, feel about the change.

I never heard about any women accompanying the men into the prison.
Other than moms, girlfriends, biological sisters who were only having visitation with family members.
