Dear Annie & Barb, Well, I'm a stroke survivor myself. I had a major ischemic stroke in Sept. '02. Please keep believing that you both will continue to see improvements...tho at times, it seems slow-going...just keep working at it. Barb they say no riding of horses, because you must protect your brain from any 'jostling' which could trigger another stroke...we are vulnerable to this for at least the first two years post-stroke. Expect to have your sleep patterns altered for the next several months. Keep 'visualising' that you will once again do all the things you used to - it will keep you going. (((Hugs to you both))). Diabetes
by CountryGuy inthere are two diseases that seem to "run" in my family: cancer and diabetes.
this morning my doctor told me that i now have diabetes.
this really isn't a surprise to me, i've been waiting for the shoe to drop so to speak.

Country Guy, I highly suggest you get a book titled: Type II Diabetes: The First year by Gretchen Becker, it is in most book stores, or you may even find it at your local library, and even Amazon.com - where they even have used copies at a reasonable price. Most hospitals and even dieticians recommend the typical American Diabetes Association diet (ADA), which is heavy on carbohydrates. Diabetes is very much a YMMV disease (Your mileage may vary) - and, therefore, ONE type diet doesn't work for all diabetics. This book will explain the various options diabetics have in regard to diet. Did your doctor give you a glucose monitoring device? You definitely need one, it is very, very important to test frequently to see how various foods are affecting your blood glucose. When I was first dx'd - I tested 10-12 times/day to see just how various foods affected my sugars. Don't worry, you won't have to do this forever!! - once you find what foods have the negative impact on your meter, you can then test just morning and evening to see how you are maintaining. The idea is to keep your sugar levels as near to normal (non-diabetic) as possible to avoid diabetic complications. Your doctor will be monitoring you (via blood tests) several times per year to check on how your 'sugar' levels are impacting you. Particularly important is your A1c, which is a three-month overall average of glucose glycation in your body. Do you know what your A1c was upon diagnoses? If not, find out, and in fact, ask for copies of your lab work each time your doctor has it done - you are entitled to them. It will all seem overwhelming at first, but will quickly become second nature to you. I wish you well.

Good Grief, Slap me silly! I believed it- even ran in to tell ol' larc, who about chocked on his oj - put me in mind of the ban on smoking in the 60's - quit smoking within 6 months or be disfellowshipped!! Which, as we do know, they then readily carried out. I'm glad it IS a joke, but it definitely does show how the very fact that we could be taken in for even a minute, because it definitely does sound so borg-like...and to those that feel they would do something like this if they could, you are absolutely right!! I wouldn't be surprised at all if eventually something along these lines does happen. Their written words of warning appearing in the publications, haven't stemmed the congregation members from searching the net. When this continues to fail and they keep losing members, they will become even more desperate to exert control. Ok, taking deep breaths, trying to get my racing heart back to normal, LOL>

Jim Pentons New Book
by mouthy ini just heard from jim.
he was telling me his new book will be published in about a year.
it is called" jehovah's witnesses & the third reich" by university of toronto press.he was telling me there is some very new revealing material in it that will prove how rutherford & the german bransh tried to ingratiate themselves with the nazis in the summer & early fall of 1933.. he told me this privatly .i did ask if i can repeat it, he said of course.

Because Jim asked Larc to write a preface for this upcoming book, I was privy to reading a recent draft. While I don't feel free to reveal any 'juicy' tidbits, I can say the documentation is flawless, and only intensified my already extreme dislike for Rutherford and his self-serving manipulations. Jim writes it in his usual scholarly and flawless adcademic style, from the perspective of a trained historian. I can't wait to see it in print. For those interested in the deep historical workings of the organization, well, you won't be disappointed. I was left with the impression that Russell was almost 'saintly' compared to the hedonistic Rutherford...a man whose every move was calculated for his own grandiose ideas and ego. And, it is no wonder that the governing body of the WTBTS is just a reflection of their true 'founder' - Rutherford.

Hello Warrigal,
I'm a 'senior', too - grew up in the JW's in the 50's.
My husband and I left in the mid-60s, and I have never been sorry, so glad we didn't raise our children in the witness-ruled religion.
Due to a stroke I had a few months ago, I am relearning to use a computer. You will do fine, just give it a bit of time. I'm glad your husband regained his health, but sorry the elders and other JW's didn't offer you support..they have lost members for that very reason. So many of them are unable to show compassion when one they deem 'unworthy' needs just a helping hand and some 'spiritual support. You will make new friends here though, and find many new friends, as I have.
Glad you decided to join and post, looking forward to hearing more from you. Feel free to e-mail me if you like.

(((((Hugs to Shari))))))
I was practicing my keyboarding, when Larc, came to tell me the sad news. I'm so very sorry, dear Shari. And to lose Bruiser, too, extra hugs to Nikki.
I'm going to phone my JW elder stepdad tomorrow, he also has had triple by-pass surgery and I want him to know I'm thinking of him.
I hope your private memorial service will give you all a shared sense of comfort. I'll phone in a few days.
Love,
Zazu
