I traveled to the island of Saba (2 1/2 hours by boat from St. Maarten) in May. No phones no hassles, just houses perched on the side of an extinct Volcano rising three thousand feet into the sky. And the friendliest people you could ever meet. I want to retire there.

Stupid parent tricks
by LuckyLucy inas a child when i would cry (a big no no in our family).
my dad would say" if you keep crying i will give you a reason to cry".
if we spoke at the dinner table, he would reach across the table (did'nt matter how far away you were..his arm seem to grow) he would thump our heads as hard as he could(leaving a bruise).

It was rough when I was a kid. The beatings, the headgames. I used to hide in my room with such despair it was crushing. Now my mother especially resents me as an adult because "I beat the system". I left it all and became successful. In our household women were considered second class, not worthy of education or joining the workforce. This was partly because of the atmosphere my father was raised in himself and partly because of the JWs. Now my mother just focuses on the apostate aspect as the latest excuse not to be proud of me. It's all she has left. She told me once that she realized when I was 5 years old that she never wanted to be my mother. She's been looking for excuses to fuel that hate ever since. The JW lifestyle fits right in. It's sad.

The dumbest way you got caught?
by kat7302 inive done some pretty stupid things in my time but i think the prize had to go to the time i was 14, out shopping and desperate for a cigarette..... i went into a secluded cafe so there was less chance of being spotted and was relieved to find that there was only one other couple in there.
i sat down with my coffee and confidently lit up, casually asking the guy on the next table to pass the ashtray.. next week i was hauled in front of the elders for smoking and found to my dismay that the guy sat next to me was a ministerial servant who recognised me from being on the last assembly programme giving my experiences!.
oops!

I visited an Ex-JW who used to be my closest friend over 13 years ago. Well, he possesssed some "smoke" so we smoked, something that I rarely ever do. Then he called my devout JW mother in tears and told her I was a drug addict! What an ass! As if my parents didn't have a hard enough time with me leaving seven years ago. And, that was the end of that. Other than that, nothing ever happened to me when I was an active JW, as I didn't really get up to anything too suspect except for the whole unspiritual attitude thing.

MegaDude's story was the one I heard. Everyone at Patterson talked about Mr. Coffee - shouting at everyone when they were on their way to breakfast and morning worship.

Gifts, talents and abilities
by restorebeauty in.
what is the stand on a dub pursuing your gifts talents and abilities?
-
zenpunk
That's a no brainer - put it aside to pursue kingdom interests of course. Unless you become extraordinarily famous, then we'll brag about the fact that you're a JW.

How does god view women!!
by haujobbz in.
i always wondered why women in most religions seem to play the lesser role, like why cant women say a prayer for others if men are there to do it(refering to jws),men work and women play there role as housewife(ie:muslims),women cant be elders, women came from adam, women viewed as weaker vessel etc.its seems to me that the female is looked at as a lesser being by god and man as the dominant one, most sisters i knew just kept quiet about their roles as wifes and got a long with it,whereas 1 or 2 werent happy about how they were viewed by god,and i think they had a lot to offer others as regards congregational duties and their abilities were overlooked.
by the i am a male ok lol!!!!!

That's right LyinEyes!!!
It's not a matter of how God views women. It's a matter of how MEN think God views women. Got it. That's the beauty of God and religion. Since God isn't saying too much these days, everyone just makes it all up.

by haujobbz inthink about it when adam and eve were created according to the bible they strutted around "stark naked", then they make a mistake and then realised they should start wearing clothes,so why didnt they notice that before mm very strange.just because all of a sudden they were sinners why did have stop strutting around naked "oohh cmon please".i mean god designed us to be naked.

HOW MANY HERE HAVE HAD JUDICIAL ACTION?
by minimus inmany of the posters here have been in the organization for years.during the time that you have been associated, have you ever had to go before a commitee?
did you confess to something or were you confronted by the elders?
were you ever accused of something but it couldn't be proven?
-
zenpunk
Yes, yes and yes. It was a horrible experience. I especially felt so bad for my parents, who had to sit in on all my committees, absolutely shamed to the core over me. I wish they would realized it was all a load of crap, but they truely believed I was evil. I was usually called on the carpet for attitude problems, because I had a low tolerance for lies. That's what was sad. I wasn't really up to anything "bad".
