sitting this evening with friends chilling out as you do, most of them anti-global capitalists and coca cola came up into the conversation.. you know, we couldn't come up with anything that essentially this giant corporation was doing or has done that might affect adversely other people elsewhere.
all they produce is one bloody great drink that everyone loves.. anyone else heard of or have something on this corporation?.

2. My Mother's cousin found a rat at the bottom of a Coke bottle in the 1950s. They got a money settlement and a free case of Coke every week for 10 years (back then that was a big deal). This really happened - this is not an urban legend.
there have been several posts about the way witnesses discipline their kids lately, this prompts me to ask.... has anyone had the "dr spock quote" thrown in their face by a witness?
i have heard witnesses throw this about for years, but cannot honestly remember ever seeing it in print.
and i have never read any of dr. spock's books.
I remember once someone, after seeing my mother go through one of her disciplince rampages with me, asked my mom to read Dr. Spock. My mother got very angry, and just beat me some more when we got home. She was so thrilled when she found out that Dr. Spock was having problems with his daughter (I think that's what it was), she was telling everyone.
PS - I think there's got to be a balance with discipline. Maybe a rare spanking is needed in younger years - but the JWs take it too far. I was still getting "spanked" with a wooden spoon until it broke at the age of 16! That's when it stops being spanking and starts being abuse.

ver since the beginning of the watchtower movement, they have had some sort of deadline for god's activities.these activities could be the rapture of the saints (which jws today do not believe in), the destruction of "false religion", ie every other religious group, or the final end of this world.
earlier, these deadlines were explicit dates.

i was just given the new book from the convention by a neighbor of mine and i was remembering that when i was in high school 85-89, we met the bethelite brother who was giving the special talk at our district assembly.
most of the families from my congregation commuted, 20 miles, to the assembly in fresno, ca.
a local elder stayed with his family in the hotel across the selland arena, convention.
Most likely there was nothing suspect here - except for the status of getting that glorious room. The Bethel Boy dynamic has always been that of a "boys club". Many of these guys felt they couldn't have a good time with sisters around, since they would have to be on their best behaviour. Plus, in a hotel room, if sisters went, the situation would have been considered suspect as a hot tub and a lack of supervision was probably involved.
i think it is sad how witnesses don't think future.
they don't save for a rainy day, don't plan for retirement, don't get higher education, alot are overweight, thinking why bother, don't worry about their health, etc.
and, have you notice, they almost try to get people to have low self esteem?
There was one family who moved in just as I was making my exit that were HUGE? I'm talking at least 400 lbs a piece, no joke! In fact, an inactive friend went to a meeting with me once just cause they couldn't believe it was true. They were wrong - it was true! I couldn't believe no one said a word, even from the standpoint that these two were putting their health and their kid's health in danger.
of the recent speech given by president bush and corporate responsibility, from the americans in here, how do you see this policy unfolding in the usa?
do you think this is a wise move for your president to be taking, or can you see it opening wide, a flood gate, can of worms so to speak?
what is the general consensus, word on the street about this issue?

after reading marylin's post about dicipline, i'm feeling all worked up, as i can totally relate to the cild that is being beat.
especially at the meetings.. anyway, it makes me want to go back to the meetings to keep an eye out for those type of parents that like to hit there kids; and when i see it happening i think i'll take the liberty of walking up behind that parent and wacking him upside his head.. anyone want to help?.

i just heard some wonderful news of another boy being appointed a ministerial servant.
the comment was that even though he is young, he is very mature.another person, speaking of a different boy being appointed said that he had the added advantage of being home schooled and that really helped him to mature.
What crap! And, oh yes "home school makes you more mature"! That takes the cake. I found it was usually the young go-getters like this that were living the double life big time!
