My parents used to have burn fests for anything they bought and later thought was "demonized". I was of a very independent mind, even before I was a teenager and my parents were constantly blaming that on demons getting into the house through used items and would look for stuff to burn in a bonfire in the yard. One night I sat up with my father half the night while he played records backward on the record player looking for subliminal messages from the demons. Crazy stuff.

Any Dubs in your Hall that were puportedly "Demonized"?
by Sailor Ripley inwe had a whole family that moved into our congo when i was about 10. they had kids from 6 to 16-years-old.
there was always talk of their beds spinning and shoes floating, et cetera.
they lived in a literal shack so i didn't want to go there to spend the night, but i always wanted to go and "check it out" to see some fireworks.

**MUST READ** AlanF's email to Knocking.org
by sf inthis is a must-read that, hopefully, will stay an "active topic" for all seekers and lurkers, by bumping it to the top as often as possible.
alan wrote it in randys {dogpatch} thread regarding knocking.org documentary and in reply to the email mr. engardio sent to barbara anderson.
however, it is so vital a read that it indeed needs its own thread:.

Are there benefits to DAing Yourself?
by zenpunk ini've been away from this board for a really long time, since then i've made huge progress in my recovery from life in the jw world thanks to some professional help.
now i am at the point where i just don't want to be anywhere near anyone remotely associated with the organization.
my parents no longer speak to my husband and i, but when i do have to interact with my jw inlaws i feel incredibly sick.

You all have some really good points. I feel like I have to make a stand for what I believe in. I think what clinched it for me is back in April my husband and I went to his brother's wedding in South Africa. We were put up with a JW family and had to go to a JW wedding etc. I wanted to scream - I felt like such a fake! At the wedding reception we couldn't stand it anymore and lit up cigarettes we bummed off of someone (and we don't even smoke!) because we couldn't take the falsehood anymore - stupid wedding talks about subjection, etc. when the groom is only 20 years old!!! (obviously horny to get married). It was after this that I've had a strong urge to take control and write a letter to say look - I'M NOT ONE OF YOU!

I've had an urge to write a letter DAing myself to sort of draw a line in the sand as they say. But my fear is that writing a letter will cause all kinds of uproar in the local congregation who has left us alone for the past few years (my husband has also left, but is much more passive in his feeling towards them). So - has anyone here ever DA'd themselves after being out for almost 9 years and, was there any personal satisfaction to doing so?

Any advice on tattoos?
by carefully faded ini've been faded for almost four years now.
i've decided in the last month or so that i would really like to treat myself to a small tattoo.
i'm going the conservative route and plan on getting it on my lower back - so it can be seen when i want it to be, but also easily hidden when necessary .

In 2015....
by Gill inin only ten years the generation of 1914 will be well and truly gone so what then for those left still waiting for armageddon.
i'm thinking of friends and relatives here, and feeling sorry that they're wasting more time in the cult and that life's too short for that.
what's the chances of they're seeing sense in the near future?

Hi all,
I had a big conversation with a presiding overseer and brooklyn bethelite who called me after 8 years (since I left). He invited me to the memorial and I explained why we are no longer JWs citing the JW's investment in RAND corporation as the number 1 reason. He married my husband and I and we were once very close. He would like to see the evidence and I believe he is sincere. I called my mother and told her that he called out of the blue and then I told her what I said. My mother is still a JW. She said she would like to come over tomorrow and see the evidence of JW investment in RAND. This is the first time I could even bring up this subject with her as she now seems receptive.
Does anyone know of an objective source giving this information. This could be the nail in the coffin of her relationship with the JWs. My father has been made unemployed in his 50s in this recession because of his refusal to take military work. If they see this evidence - it will really make a difference and maybe I will get my parents back.
Please help....

as we were walking in, i said, "someday i would love a big birthday party with all my family" (sans jw parents of course).
