I hated having bookstudies in private homes. We were always 8-10 present and the pressure was on to answer every 2nd or 3rd paragraph.

This proves the WTS photographer is not blessed by Jehovah!

After-meeting conversations
by Gopher into be able to properly "encourage one another, more so as you behold the end drawing near", we as jw's were instructed to do the following: .
(1) stay after the meeting for "upbuilding association", and .
(2) rather than talk about mundane things of life, discuss the finer points of the meeting just held.

I never talk about the meeting after its all over. The material presented is too boring and repetive.

WTS retirement plan
by stichione inas a building inspector in a large city, i also come across inspecting nun's retirement homes.
in fact, working on a special project recently i visited 10 buildings housing anywhere from 60 to 500 nuns each.
i was struck by how well these nuns are taken care of by the catholic church.

I remember I adamantly was opposed to buying RRSPs (registered retirement plans in Canada). I argued I wouldn't need them since I was never going to reach retirement age in this old system of things. Then came the November 1995 Watchtower article on the redefinition of "this generation". Shortly after I started buying RRSPs aggresively. A reality check for all Dubs now.

As a building inspector in a large city, I also come across inspecting nun's retirement homes. In fact, working on a special project recently I visited 10 buildings housing anywhere from 60 to 500 nuns each.
I was struck by how well these nuns are taken care of by the Catholic Church. They spend their useful years engaged in various works for the Church and community organizations. Then when they get old, the Church takes care of them by providing a home and all the benefits of living in a community where everything is provided to you.
And for those who become infirm and are only partly autonomous or completely bedridden, they were taken care of by trained nurses in the long-term care facility of the residence.
This got me thinking about some Dubs I know who after high school became pioneers and did the work until retirement years, or others who went from Bethel to circuit work, then after 30 or 40 years retired from the fulltime service for whatever reason. They were now on their own financially; they had to get jobs to pay the bills, not to mention never having contributed to a retirement plan. And God forbid they became sick!
The WTS simply left them to fend for themselves without any kind of compensation or help after having spent an entire life in service to them. This also reminds me of how things went for Raymond Franz, who after almost 40 years of full time dedication to the WTS, was thanked for his services and asked to leave. The money paid him seemed almost for the purpose of buying him off.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Field Service Reporting To Book Study
by Coqui inabout three or four months ago the organization changed the way field service time is reported... they decided that everyone would not drop their time card in a box in the kingdumb hall but rather leave the report with their book study conductor.
i liked the fact before that i could leave the report with someone i seldom saw.
with the change i realized that with this change the elders had even more control and influence on me.

I agree that time reporting is a way in which the WTS controls its members. I know I certainly was. I felt pressure to report at least the national average so I could appear to be a good Dub. If it was below average I wase made to feel guilty because I were not out there serving the Organ.. er, I mean God.

by hamptonite21 intwo weeks ago all sunday meetings were cancelled in the shirley area here on longisland ny.
a elder meeting was held with the co. my aunt a jdub has informed me that all 4 congregations have had over 7 disfellowshippings in the past month and about 2 dozen since the beginning of the year.
it seems that many of the youth are having sex and allowed to do what ever they want.

This is fantastic. With the diffusion of the internet and the Dubs surfing, doing research and visiting sites such as this one and many others, they will finally see the "truth" and come to the conclusion that at best the WTS in not any better than other religions, and at worst that this religion is a waste of time and an apostasy from true Christianity.
