i have been coming here for some time (although not in recent months, my sincere apologies) to share with you various truths that i have received from the truth.

I do remember the concept of the philosopher king, New Sense. I'm not sure about the "not of this world" part, but I do recall that the guy at the top was to be a philosopher with absolute power. Can you give us a reference about the "other worldliness" of the king, shelby?

So, shelby, it's good to see you again. Attracting the usual tormenting gnats, eh? I have long wondered about Greco - Judaic interchanges of ideas. Some of those Hercules stories and some of the Samson stories seem to have a lot of parallels. I mean, they lived next to each other in an age of Phonecian commerce.

So, God sent you to tell us this? Did he mention anything else? Or is this just one of his inscrutable ways?

so my wife is standing at the door, waiting for me to finish my morning ablutions so that we can go out, and she asks me to go to the door.

i met a very friendly couple who wanted to talk to me about jehovah.

i informed them that i was raised as a jehovah's witness and that i had been disfellowshipped for about (and i had to think about this) five years now.. and the dude was offended by my existence.

a few years ago my brother in law a chef, was looking into opening a gay bar /restraurant.

non jw .. my dad a total wt zombie was helping him out looking for a place, speaking with landlords, atty's etc.

this went on for about 2 years.

However I'm not sure if you realize what kind of government support officially recognized religions get in some (terribly socialist-democratic by US standards) European countries. In Poland for instance "priests" in of officially recognized religions have their medical insurance and 80% of their pensions paid by the government for their entire lives. Considerable tax exemption (property, cars, etc.) is another great benefit they enjoy

My jaw just hit the floor. Yes, there is a complete and total confusion between our cultures on this thread right now. No, the USA doesn't support religion or pay priests' pensions or anything like that. Hell, it doesn't even pay MY pension - SS taint nuthin.

We are in the middle of a HUGE debate over whether giving government money to religiously based charities is unconstitutional or not. And the "pro-religion" side is probably going to lose.

churches are always completely tax-exempt, except for certain circumstances. Private donations to any religion are tax deductible (although some forms need filled out.) Okay, then I can see why you would want to control who you are paying and what for... yikes... my apologies if I offended you in any way.

I have to go sit down somewhere and drink about this. I mean, think about this... no, I like it the first way better.

A religion that runs no charities, creates maladapted members, and denies military service is no big deal in OUR country, being more or less a Masonic Government of the Light Bringer... I would probably not be too happy in a country like yours, if I hadn't grown up there. BUT - if the social contract is that well-defined and "intrusive" for lack of a better word, then yes, the government has a duty to represent the interests of the taxpaying public.

I guess this just proves my point about socialism - it starts with health insurance and winds up controlling your freedom to choose how to live. And it's RIGHT to do so, is the thing. I'd rather skip the whole process, thank you very much.

A brief coda that might be of interest to yinz - the czarina was surprised at the way I handled it - firmly but politely. I'm not even that nice to customers at the bucks.

She asked me, "I handed it to you because I thought you would be funny and mean to them about it."

But I couldn't have been. It would have been like being mean to myself six years ago.

She then said, "I'm sorry. If I'd known, I would have let them have it, after what they did to my husband."

She knows what I went through. Not many do. It was bad. Really bad. No wonder I am so messed up still about it. I mean, I was frightened of them - frightened! Me! I've been hit. I've hit back. I don't know what I was frightened of or why.

But it was fear - and I conquered it. And YOU CAN TOO! All you lurkers, when the worst is over, you will have won against them! Don't let the fear overwhelm you!

Thank you all for your congratulations. I wonder if they will be back. I'll be ready to break their beliefs across my knee if they do.
