recently, the watchtower has been relying on the european commission on human rights to try to fend off legal.
attacks by governments over there.
however, a recent case in germany's high court could change this.
Ah. Nationalism triumphs over artificial constructs of human delusion, once again.
And humanity benefits...

i happen to think quite a few intelligent people have cornered the market on certain information.. when you are around other intelligent people you find in talking with them that you are incredibly more well informed about certain subjects than other people are.
in fact, you might know things that nobody else knows anything about.. tell me what it is that you know.. i have some really quirky things i know.
but, what do you know that sets you apart?
alright Wildhorses, I'll bite. What is it?
Also, Stinkypantz, what is the reason cyanide works so fast?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!
That's the funniest theory I've ever heard. It seems far more likely that ambitious CO's are using the world situation to the advantage of the numbers in their domains. Hinting "Pioneers can't get drafted" etc... to young ones after frightening them with their tales of Armageddon, etc. Ignoring the stated fact that in the event of a war - conscientious objectors usually sit in prison until AFTER the war is over... in case their humanitarianism is contagious. HA HA HA HA HAAA!!!
As far as an actual draft - IT AIN'T HAPPENING! We have enough gung ho patriotic redblooded killing machines volunteering that we don't need to FORCE anybody to do anything. That's what's really dismaying the hippy movement - after thirty years of peace and "small world after all" propoganda there are enough people with a sense of national patriotism and an innate sense of right and wrong that actually VOLUNTEER to do the dirty work that the hippies benefit from but are terrified to do. my gawds! Maybe war actually IS part of the human nature!

I know that something like %1 of all books published in the U.K. have Terry Pratchett's name on the cover.

for me it was the realization that there was no "faithful & discreet slave", that all the prophecies "proving" that jehovah's witnesses are the only religion approved by god is bogus and the realization that this is a "cult" and there is no real normal sense of love and affection in the "truth".
When in the middle of the Watchtower I decided to never believe ANYTHING or do ANYTHING because of fear - which made most of the "do it or you'll die at Armageddon" arguments seem even more offensive. And when I saw how MUCH of their authority was based on the "don't be like Korah or you'll burn alive" line of reasoning... well... let's just say I took the scripture about not getting frightened by a false prophet to heart.
Their threats are as empty as their promises.

i just learned that an ex-cowoker of mine became engaged to her abusive boyfriend.
she is probably one of the brightest, prettiest people i have ever known--but she doesn't believe that because her boyfriend would rather have her believe she is dumb, ugly and nothing at all without him.
i am so sad for this girl.. she was in college last year and he made her give it up.
Yeah, if she doesn't want help there's nothing you can do.
Good luck.

i took my niece to see "the grudge" last night.
i was holding on to her almost the entire time.
i thought it was pretty creepy, but i haven't seen many scary movies to compare it to.
I've seen the original japanese one - not the remake. I thought it was really good, and the czarina was terrified and had to turn it off. she came back though, curiousity being what it is.
It's a damned good story and just proves that the Japanese know a thing or two about scaring the shite out of people.
Check out Tomie (The Girl Who Can't Die) or something like that if you liked the Grudge.

i've been struggling so much with some old programming that i truly feel is from the witnesses, and my father in particular.
he always told me men and women couldn't be friends -- unless they were married or related -- because they'd fall in love with each other and leave their mates.
that's why you could only be friends with your own gender and were never allowed to be alone with someone of the opposite sex, even in a car.
The thing is, though, it is often a self-fulfillinf prophecy. Raised to believe that anytime a man is alone with a woman, especially a worldly woman, that fornication is the inevitable result, leads to a lot of embarrassed fumblings and sexual harassment lawsuits...
