as i walked back from the bank to my car yesterday i saw an elder and his wife from my old, old congregation.
i waved, but they didn't see me.
they entered their car, backed up and i stood exactly two feet away from their window smiling and waving.
It's really funny.

Christ, what is wrong with me? Is the dubbishupbringing clouding my judgement? Does it truly feel like I need to go to the meet up place? I got fed the meet up email every month and click, into the trash. But now, with tenyear anniversary for my high schoo coming up. What am I doing? I don't know.
Any burgh exdubs should go, although it is a great restaraunt with an ample bar so i won't be lonely even if they shut the whole thing down with me inside. Long as Ican reach the Kahlua and Stoli...

in the last few months, three different us federal judges, each appointed by president reagan, have found a total of eight journalists in contempt of court for refusing to reveal confidential sources, and the first of them may go to prison before the year is out.
The reporter's job is not to provide justice.
I DO think that judges of a certain level, maybe State Supreme Court, should be able to order reporters to yield up their sources if the case demands it.
I mean, if the source is completely protected, that means the reporter can make the decision for US about what information to tell us and what not to tell us. Who was where, who saw what, and who should be punished for what they did. They then stop being reporters and start being judges and juries - protecting some and punishing others.
I wonder, how would you feel about reporter's privilege, if a reporter had interviewed several Jehovah's Witness pedophiles about how easy it is to prey upon Witness kids and how they get away with it. Would reporter's privilege be sacrosanct in that case? After all, the reporter could decide in his / her mind that pedophiles shouldn't even be punished and that protecting the source protects pedophile rights. As well as their ability to write another "scoop" about the lives of pedophiles, which these days might even win a Pulitzer, get a movie deal, or provide the next "civil rights" icon...
The first amendment has nothing to do with protecting criminals. Extreme case, but it could happen. I imagine NAMBLA hires reporters from time to time to write their case for them.
Reporter's privilege is like everything else, it's relative and conditional. It's a good principle, but sometimes the authorities need to be in possession of all the facts and be able to subpoena witnesses.

have you made the same effort investigating the history of how scripture was written down, compiled, redacted and selected as you did reinforcing your jw doctrines week after week at the kingdom hall?.
if you have; then you know it cannot be factual.. there have always been agendas.
the people with the agendas needed to wield power and using an invisible backup agent was a great device for controlling others.. somebody is always insisting they have an invisible and mysterious source of divine information and selling it like hotcakes and syrup.
Why?
Mostly because it pisses a lot of people off.

i absolutely love this time of year, and the warm feelings, and the general feeling of good will emitting from people, but, not really having a faith in christ or religion, i somehow find it difficult to use the word christmas, as it denotes a celebration of christ... .
for those of us who enjoy this season, but aren't really firm believers, can any of us think of a name that could be used instead of the word "christmas", that would have special meaning for believers and non-believers alike, a word that evokes the same emotional feelings?
i have spent the past week decking the halls, and setting up the "christmas" tree(s), getting ready for this holiday which i enjoy so much, but it is that one word "christmas" that somehow makes me feel as though i am contradicting myself, because i no longer have a faith in that higher power.
I'm not really a Christian, per se, but I prefer the word Christmas because it has been my people's traditional name for it for almost 1700 years now (we converted a little later) and it's just what we do.
I realize that it is just a co-opted celebration of the unconquered sun, and that the Christ story is just a retelling of the Horus / Osiris myth; BUT how do you sum all that up in one word? Season of joy sounds a little, erm, froo froo, and holiday season is just another way to say Holy Day Season. The religion is bound up with it inextricably.
Why make your own culture more bland? Christmas has a nice flavor. Season of Joy? I mean, you might as well call V-J day the Peace Day. No, that's not what we are celebrating, joy is the effect of celebrating the sun's rebirth and the cycle of the season.

i havent talked to two of the three braindead bitches for a couple of years (ever since that goddamn article came out in the km) but one of the braindead bitches lives about 10 mins from me.
Considering the way the dubs tend to try to program kids under their care, maybe not having them watch your kids is the best thing after all. I love my mother, but if I have a kid I'm not going to allow her to spend any time with it unless I can be sure she isn't going to terrify it or delude it with their crap.
