I concur that there are better sites to do research on. Kent's site is probably the best, it has it all and well organized and written, and I might send my mom there someday.
This forum is for people to share their feelings and events - to talk. Not everything that is said will be nice, and if somebody just wandered in to some of hte conversations I've had with fleshpeople might be offended. For instance, I would never discuss my marijuana use with my mother - the problem with the forum is that my mother could conceivably look up my conversation and then bother me about it.
This site is for talking and healing and debating and bitching and moaning and griping and sniping and laughing and mocking and screaming. Newbies can come and enjoy our wit, if they want, and can try to post defending their faith, but this is a very intense group with a long history of anger and repression, so we will probably try to nicely frappe their beliefs. Like Scholar vs. Alan F. Ever go through some of Fred Hall's old posts? Sometimes newbies aren't so nice to US! Sometimes they drop in like Elijah and try to condemn all of us and wear sackcloth and ashes and cook their food on poop in the public squares - no wonder we tend to mock them. They have grandiose notions, delusions of being central to the universe, and we can't accept that.
Conversation in two dimensions. No depth and no time...

Have YOU Ever Met Up With Anyone Famous
by RAYZORBLADE inhave any of you on this forum, ever met up with anyone considered famous?
i've met a great deal of people over the years.
one of my most memorable: dennis leary, drinking a few pints with him as he sang "margaritaville" from the jukebox.

I have George Romero's autograph, he directed "Night of the Living Dead." He still wanders around Pittsburgh sometimes between Hollywood jaunts.
And Tom Savini, the makeup special effects guy behind NOTLD and he was in "From Dusk Till Dawn" and endless credits for monsters and special effects - he hangs out in my coffee shop from time to time.
My wife used to date Scarlett Pomers brother. She's on "Reba" now, and had a recurring role on one of the Star Treks.

Maybe he'll support the legalization of non-addictive drugs, having realized the dangers of his hard-line intolerant stance.
That would be nice. I'm a libertarian, and that's my viewpoint.

THEY'VE DONE IT!!!! The WBTS set a new date!
by dmouse inthe latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.
ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.
but does that mean that the big a isn't near?

I don't get anything more than a hint about the 2034 date. They are just trying to scare people, but they haven't actually mentioned the year 2034, have they?
I mean, if they could scare people into thinking that without actually telling them that, then that would be better than the 1975 thing. I mean, they KEPT talking about 1975, saying the year over and over. They haven't even really mentioned 2034 specifically.
So, this is just more of the same scare tactics that they've been using before, but perhaps ramped up a bit louder.

Hi scoob. Nice to meet you. I'm sure you'll find that I am one of the best posters on this board and I am open-minded, left wing, and gentle.
In fact, I'm playing the guitar and leading a rousing chorus of "He's got the whole world in his hands".

JWs in The Workplace: What Type Were/Are You?
by Room 215 init seems to me that jws in the workplace fall into three basic categories: (1) the matter-of-fact type who goes about his/her business, not hiding his/her religious afflililation and seldom if ever initiates conversations on religious topics, but who nonethless hews to the wtbs party line on involvement in non-business social events, i.e.
office holiday parties, etc.
handling any inquiries succinctly; (2) the aggressive type that seeks opportunity to ``give a witness" to workmates, who brings in and displays prominently wt literature and reads or studies his/her wt at lunchtime and at coffee breaks; or (3) the ``double lifer" easy-going type who's one of the boys/gals and who onlyreveals his/her religious affliliation reluctantly or under duress, yet away from work is a regular meeting attender and active in ``field service.".

Gawd, I was a number 2.
In more ways than one, I was a real #2-head...
Humiliation at the hands of the JC quickly removed any claim to moral superiority I felt... Ah, the wondrous ways the Lord doth work...

Oh yeah, another "peaceful deal" that I'm sure that we could have absolutely trusted the Butcher of Baghdad (whose promises of safety to his sons-in-law are now a matter of historical record) to fulfill.
The cost of freedom is death, blood, mutilation and pain. Widows, orphans, men without legs, and a great deal of thrashing about. War is not pretty, or glorious, or satisfying. It is hell, without any end or solution. But through peaceful initiatives, a great deal of good things are being done.
War accomplished more than sanctions did, and killed fewer children.
There is a fairly restricted area where most of this rebellion is taking place. The so-called Sunni triangle. Saddam is there, somewhere. He can't leave, because he'll get caught and die. He can't stay, because eventually he will get caught and die.
The Iraqis, in the early 1990's, tried to rise up and "settle things themselves" and wound up getting massacred and buried in mass graves.
Hey, stephen - Dante reserved the hottest place in hell for those who, when presented with a moral choice, chose neutrality. Burn, baby, burn...
I remain convinced that not only will we supporters be vindicated because of our stand, we will be the ones to whom the peaceniks will turn for defense when and if the enemy ever REALLY gets a foothold on our soil.
