as i've stepped off the train of a myopic weltenschuung and entered the busy streets of competing ideas, i have come to a very interesting realization: all claims, ideas, philosophies, behaviors -- everything -- can be criticised.
it doesn't matter how good your argument is, how beneficial it might be to humanity -- it can and will be put through the machine of skepticism and kinks in the armor will become known.
criticism is unavoidable.
Criticism, open criticism, is a bit of a shock for those of us from dubdom. We tend to see all contrary arguments as both a personal attack and indicative of a personal flaw on the part of the arguer.

we have all fantasized about never having been jw's, how would your life of been different (better or worse) if your family(parents) would of never joined the jw's.. hypothetical question i know.

A child soldier will probably be killed, justifiably so, in combat - after all, these boys are young teenagers and even younger - and they bear arms and watch rapes and commit arson, and are recruited to serve as suicide bombers and landmine removers.
If a kid bearing a rifle came running at me, I'd do my damndest to pick him off.
But that's an extreme case, one that removes the "innocent civilian" nature of children that is inherent to their makeup. But that's the only one I can think of - self-defense in combat.

Yeah, I still call God Jehovah when I pray. However, I have discarded many of the Bible's notions of who He is and what He is up to, in fact, He isn't a He - he's a spirit, ergo, no gender, but I refer to him in the masculine because that's who I can identify with.
A great deal of my current theology is based on personal experience, studying creation, and social philosophy.
I don't pray through Jesus anymore. I don't believe in original sin anymore, ergo, no need for a ransom or a mediator - in fact I strongly doubt the historicity of the Bible. However, many of the concepts Jesus embodied (literally or not) are useful in day to day living. Reliance on God, abandonment of materialism, following where God leads, use of God-given talents to the maximum, hope in God's eventual salvation of all mankind, belief in justice and a continuance of life.
The name works for me.

what has irked me lately is the way my mothers husband (elder bob) treats mom.
in typical jw fashion subserviant, always careful in speaking out of turn esspecially our weekly study( "bible study") er book study.. i have to find a way to work in the reference of treating wives the way christ treats the church and let elder bob stew on that, but being careful not to plant seeds of resentment, with mom.

All the same, I do believe that the sensationalism on this site is less than fully efficacious. I do believe that people make statements about the JWs which are unfair at best, downright nasty at worst. (For instance, the utterly disgraceful manner in which some poked fun at the recent death of a member of the GB.)
Efficacious - now there's a word straight from the kingdom melodies! However, it means "suitable for accomplishing a purpose" and I must ask you - what purpose are you referring to? Are you "implying" (shudder) that we as apostates have the common goal of drawing the dubs away from the WT? Because I don't. I think the actual purpose of this board is to discuss issues we as survivors have with the Borg.
One of the major issues we have with the leadership is the way they demand to be treated as gods on earth - the way they assume an aura of holiness and incorruptibility. We are sickened by our former attitude toward them that treated every burst of "verbal diarrhea" on their part as drops of gold from Heaven itself. Hence, humor lets us "bring them down to earth" and helps us realize that they are just human beings on our level.
I do agree that sometimes statements are made that are unfair or disingenous (sp?) and you would be right to watch out for things like that, and sharply correct them when they are made.
I missed that thread about the GB's death. Which one are you referring to? They are dropping like flies. Link, please.
