The Stem Cell experiment, good or bad?

it was discussed by the president & kerry, it will be all over the news over the next few days because of the death of a hero, for some reason the stem cell issue scares me and i dont think i could support it, taking some voiceless life to improve another, maybe i am misinformed?

it all seems unethical.

i dont know all the facts, can you enlighten me please?.

I've heard these promises before, though. It sounds good, and it doesn't unduly bother me as far as bio-ethics go; but I have little confidence that it will actually produce anything worth doing. Medicine seems to have a bit of a problem with a cure; but new and expensive treatments are always popping up. Hmmm... thinking what I'm thinking? Yep.

I guess I've just heard the "cure spinal cord paralysis" promise too many times. It's like Armageddon being around the corner...

I recall reading about a few experiments where the use of stem cells created horrible side effects in Parkinson's patients. Made it a million times worse, or something. I'll try to find it.

Mark my words, it will all come to nothing! Bah humbug!

Watchtower and E - Watchman

given the watchtower's penchant to shut down and threaten some of our posters who shall remain nameless for legal reasons, why have they not gone after e - watchman?.

why have they not shut him down with legal threats?

how is it that he is still able to post his tirade against the governing body and they have not done anything against him up to now?

I've done some searching trying to figure him out.

In the end, I just don't know what this guy is up to, and I can't figure out why he is being allowed to do as he pleases.

I DO know that he is very clever at hiding and obscuring his identity in a maze of computer domain names. I DO know that there is definitely more than just one e-watchman; he has a crew helping him out. His website is really slick, the art is original and great, and the near-perfect spelling and grammar all point to more than one hand at the wheel. Maybe the WT realizes this and is trying to pin down ALL of them for sure.

He is also big on claiming things - like a letter campaign to reveal the UN scandal. But I haven't heard one word about it from anybody. Of course, I AM diffed. Maybe the WT got wind of it and told the elders what to look for and to toss them out.

I don't like the guy. He is cynical, manipulative, and cruel; and he would be a worse shepherd than the WT ever was. Somebody should trash his site with a nice big virus...

She is an elderly sister that has known me since I was 5 years old. What does that say?

That conditioning trumps real relationships nine times out of ten.

And to think these meetings are supposed to "incite to love and fine works" and the Scriptures are supposed to be "beneficial"... What good does this crap do anybody?

Abused Elders Son: Self-Mulitation

a longtime friend of my daughters, we will call him "c", called my daughter, nancy, yesterday.

he is the 17-year-old son of an elder in my ex-wife?s congregation.

c?s father and mother are highly controlling and abusive to the young man.

Suicide.... how do you view people who "attempt" it?

anybody who has read my other recent posts...... don't worry, this is absolutely not about me feeling that way... i'm very happy, thanks..... .

my roommate, however, had a friend who committed suicide a couple of weeks ago and she just broke up with her boyfriend and he was saying things similar to what the guy who committed suicide awhile back was saying just before he took his life.

it is freaking her out.

It's never the answer, of course, and medication and/or counseling is nearly always successful.

It helps with the "how" of survival. I've never had it give me a "why" I should want to live. Oh, I can drag this on for a time - a year, ten years, a couple of decades. But then, what was THAT all about? Why did I suffer for so long, doing nothing, being nothing, just hovering in a medicated trance? Who did it help?

I sometimes think that the suicides are the smartest, bravest people on the planet... they looked into the abyss and shrugged indifferently. They took their ball and went home.

Course, I'm a nutcase. What do I know?

If a person "is looking for attention", that's very very sad

It's a terrible feeling, being trapped inside a brain that wants to die. Panicking all the time... not good.

On the other hand, taking care of a sick person is very tiring and hard to do for long stretches of time. Taht's what people who live around a depressed person have to do, or feel obligated to do. Can't blame them for wanting out either.

I've attempted, threatened, ideated suicide since I was seven.

I agree with the concept of the "shutdown" mode. I think that there is a point in the human frame when the brain initiates a certain "It's better to be dead" thing. I mean, it makes sense - it would help accept the inevitable when it really is inevitable. I think there are times when that "death instinct" gets switched on and left on despite the actual facts of the matter. Like an allergy - it's actually a hyperreaction on the part of the immune system to a nonexistent threat. Maybe a nonexistent "death situation" could trigger a hypperreactive "death instinct." Just my private musings on the strangest times in my life.

That being said - I can't imagine God judging a suicide because of depression any more harshly than somebody who suffocated because of an allergic reaction to bee stings. I don't know if we should judge it so, either. I mean, it seems like it is their choice... but how much so, really?

Everyone has to walk their own dark path. I do believe that there is little or nothing anyone can do to stop somebody from killing themselves if they are hellbent on it.
