Do you believe that ancient humans once had advanced technology?

this is something that has been tossed around for some time, but something occurred to me: if ancient humans did have advanced technology, such as space travel, we would know about it.

the reason i say we would know about it is because they would most certainly have left objects in orbit around earth.

yes, the low-orbit objects would have eventually fallen back due to the drag of the upper atmosphere.

Personally, I think the best chance for the haman race is a return to steam power and the horse and cart era.

Let's not rule out intelligence that advances beyond our's that may have done so without the exploitation of earth's resources.

And how would that work, precisely? You can't build a fire without cutting down a tree (dead wood runs out pretty quickly and even that is a "resource") You can't evolve without death. You can't "advance" your intelligence without trial and error. I think I will rule out that any intelligence could possibly advance without the utilization of any resources from any planet. Unless you'd like to refine your statement?

How would they know we were coming? Evolution is random, remember? Unless you are willing to go out on a limb and state that intelligent, self-aware beings are the inevitable result of evolution - which brings the whole God thing into it again.

a strong offense can make it possible to do things you should only be able to do with a defense - .

i think that is the strategy of the wtbts - they just keep moving the ball and keeping the other side (the sane ones) off balance.

they never feel inclined to 'defend' themselves since all the r&f will just swallow it all hook line and sinker - in short many like the show.

To leave takes more effort than to stay.

I must issue a friendly disagreement with that statement. I truly believe that the continual effort, the small pushes that a JW must give his own mind every time he is confronted with reality, in the end adds up to more effort than a DA'ing. My six months of being Dffed were terrible, but when I compare that with the continual effort of ten YEARS of being baptized, in the end I wish I'd left sooner. But I know what you mean - it's like a credit card. You can pay the minimum or you can pay the balance. The minimum lasts forever and costs you ten times as much as just biting the bullet and paying it off all at once - but some people just don't have the capital to pay it off. Or they would rather spend the money on other things. Whatever.

Good job, bebu. More effort than I would have put into trying save them. Really spectacular. You have a pm.

Sun lamps / air purifiers for DEPRESSION....

hello folks,.

i'm curious if anyone here has personal experience with using a sun lamp and/or air purifier for depression.

chicago -- where i live -- is generally a cold and rather gloomy place in the winter.

I have heard of this - my teacher in school had sessions in a lamp room. He said it helped. I've thought of trying it.

I do know that when I get outside more I feel better.

Pittsburgh isn't much better than Chicago in weather terms. football, yes. weather, no.

No one knows the DAY or the HOUR - have we misread this verse?

i was just thinking the other day, about what jesus said concerning the end of the system of things.

he said that, "no one knows the day or the hour...but only the father.".

there are two units of measurement - day and hour.

So what are you saying? That the end of the world might be a gradual process? That Armageddon might last one thousand years?

But then how about the Millennium? How do you calculate that? Does that become (1000 years times 365 days times 1000 human years in a God day?) 365 million years?
