Flowerpetal,
I didn't tremble when I got my book--but I made sure the bookstore, when they called me to let me know it was in, to be discreet over the phone just in case my hubby answered.
See how different we all are? I made no effort to hide it from my wife. I actually talked to her openly when I was just about finishing the book.
Other things about when I picked it up:
1) I was quite surprised on the cost of it. I was expecting to pay something around 25-30 bucks; it costed no more than $12.
2) I couldn't get out of the bookstore, which was also a coffeshop, without reading the first 2 chapters. The rest I devoured in the next few days! Looking at the references

Badger,
As much as the FDS would compell me not too, I don't feel any decision I make would be valid if I didn't at least give the other side a fair case.
I couldn't express that better. I remember, when I ordered COC a couple of years ago, the guilt feelings I had, but I was compelled to do it for the reason above.
All started when an elder blatantly from the platform said that he had done a research and found nothing the Society said about 1975. It was all the friends fault. From that day on I decided to do my own research into this.
Besides, I got very intrigued about why someone from the GB would want to lose his highly regarded "privilege". One day I'll tell you how trembling my legs were when I went to the bookshop to pick up my copy of COC!
Man oh man!
As opposed to some in this board, my life as a JW was fairly smooth. I think I was fortunate on this. It was reason that brought me into this movement; and reason brought me out!

The whole 1914 generation thing haunted me for years even after I left. When I found freeminds.org and discovered that they changed that stupid prophecy, I was pissed right off. I was lied to for YEARS. It was a belief that I adopted and didn't lose until I read that November Watchtower. I was robbed of a childhood because of a lie.
The "1914 generation" change was so well worded that quite a few JWs didn't even realize that something had changed. My wife only found that out when we left 2 years ago.
I, on the other hand, realized it but thought that the WTBTS was being too circumspect. After all, I thought, there still were some of that generation alive.
Overtime, I concluded that they were right: it had all been a great load of crap all the time.
I remember either an Awake or WT with the cover of a bunch of older people and the title saying something like, "1914, the generation that will not die".
There you go:

Just Re-Read 1984
by Francois inand i remember the days when the jws warned about the catholics and their "index" of books, movies, and plays that were denied to catholics as being "dangerous" to their faith.
that is to say, they were revelatory of the actual truth of a matter and the roman church did not want these truths spreading throughout the faithful.
now the witnesses are up to it to.. have you read 1984?

NeonMadman and AlanF,
you're right on the money. I'm glad Frank admitted he sad what he heard, which is a beautiful thing.
But if anyone has one more example(s) of this type of thing, I'd like to see it as well.
Now, the only other magazine I am aware of as being changed from the bi-weekly edition to the bound volume is the Watchtower Sep 15, 1982, where the cover of the magazine allegedly was plagiarized from the whisky company Johnnie Walker. This, of course, does not quite fall in the category we're talking about here, since it didn't change STATEMENTS made before.

Is the literature free in your country(Voluntary donation)
by shotgun in.
is the wtbts publications free in your respective countries or is there still a posted charge for it?.
i know us, canada, france and the land down under are free.....not exactly free they cost you your life but you know what i mean.

They weren't free in Brazil until the year 2000.
Now the "friends" go house-to-house with an envelope and ask for a
contributiondonation when the householder takes theliteraturepublication. This has been, I am told, the result of a "simplification arrangenment" (for the Society) and has actually resulted in a complication (for the brothers). :)The friends allways get the harder part. Go figure.

Wednesday, I never prayed either. 95% of the time it was just for show when I was with others; I knew they never prayed at home (no one to see them).
Matthew 6:1 (NWT)
You, guys, are not following Society's directions on the matter. :)
There is a Society's video titled Young People Ask - How Can I Make Real Friends?, where they show quite clearly that you are supposed to pray in public places. It is a sign of loyaty, maybe?
A show of hypocrisy at its best.

The New System of Things - How much longer?
by Nosferatu inthis post isn't about "how much longer until the new system of things" arrives.
i'm wondering how much longer people will buy this load of crap?
the society has been telling the r&f that armageddon is right around the corner for 124 years now, and they're still using this method.

Proplog's comments are interesting, but a bit confusing:
He seems to oppose the idea of the "end coming very soon now":
If they didn't believe that- they wouldn't have set aside their own lives to declare their message. It takes time to build an organization. So it makes sense that a lot of people would be "deceived" into thinking the end would come in their life time. That's what I mean by "divine deception".
But then he goes on to express the same type of hope that Christianity has had for the past 2000 years:
Something IS going to happen. You WILL get your answer to the question "Where is this promised coming of the Lord?"
I don't get it.

Welcome back Jim.
I was reading your story and found it interesting. The part when you say your student laugh a little louder was hilarious.
But what a surprise I had when I clicked this link http://www.gayxjw.org/censor.html and read about the picture of the knowledge book.
So you believe that the picture of same-sex folks embracing is subliminal? What a stretch of imagination, Jim.
No doubt when JWs go to that site and see the link above think 'Ahh, now I know why this guy was disfellowshiped'. No wonder.
Jim, tell me you don't believe that, please. These guys took many years of your life from you, but don't allow them to take away your sanity.
