Oh boy... what a sweet and entertaining lovely thread!
Let me see if I get this right: so, the Society claims that a huge debate between Jah and Satan in heaven took place; then, God goes on to allow a bunch of Job's people to die to prove his point; then Proverbs 27:11 is thrown in the mix to confuse things even further and the myth starts to make even less sense...
...and then, out comes a guy who claims to be a God's own messenger to Mankind today, wishing everyone peace...
Oh man, it can't get crazier than this!!!
Thanks everyone for one more good laugh.

"That I may make a reply to him that is taunting me"
by under_believer inso for our "congregation book study", we are still deeply mired in the bible teach book.
this week's lesson talks about the whole idea that the book of job relates the central issue of the entire cosmos, a vital issue raised by satan, where satan questions whether humans follow god because of what they are given, or because he deserves it.
i'm surprised that the book of job, obviously archetypal and figurative (for example, i doubt people back then literally spoke for hours in hebrew verse, and i doubt that four messengers showed up all in a row with stories telling that they, only they, got away to tell of a disaster) even has a place in the canon; aside from its lack of any specific historical position or accuracy, the argument it advances (especially as the society interprets it) is facile: the idea that privileged, wealthy, powerful job somehow stands as a representative for all humanity and serves as a litmus test for man's interaction with god is downright silly.

Will the wts face a Muslim backlash over the new tract?
by fullofdoubtnow inthey do, after all, classify all religions apart from theirs as false, and we've seen in the last few days that it doesn't take much to inflame the more militant factions of islam.
there's a large muslim community around here, and i can't see some of them taking kindly to being labelled a false religion.. this may not be the best time for the wts to be distributing such "information", but i expect they will go ahead, oblivious as to the sort of reaction it may provoke.
i hope that nothing much comes of this campaign, but in the sensitive times in which we all live, i can't help wondering....

No, I don't think so.
Interesting, a whole page about the filthy, drunken and horrible harlot and her beast, and not a single word on the UN.
Uhum.... wait for an official drop in that doctrine soon.

I'm so Naughty! I pretended to be a JW to get a sale.
by Pioneer Spit...oh, i mean Spirit ini had customers yesterday, a couple, who said they had to get to a meeting by 7:30 last night.
(red flag!
) i asked what was the nature of this meeting, and they said it was like church, and i asked what religion, and they were hohos.

Do you ever feel like you are still defending what the bible says?
by Sassy ini found myself in an interesting situation.. i've been spending some time on some non jw related boards and one day i ventured into the religion forum.. before i knew it i was there posting about if satan was created evil/ if god intended him to be that way.. and also discussing the free will given to us (and the angels) to make our own choices to be obedient or not.. .
well i haven't found a faith since leaving the dubs.. i still believe in god but i have yet to trust any organized religion.
i haven't even yet been able to bring myself to attend a church, because the thought alone give me anxiety attacks.

Gary, thanks for sharing those pictures.
I can relate with the situation of your brother turning you in to elders; my sister did basically the same. Except, she wasn't a walkaway witness at the time; she was of another breed: an active witness with visible disagreeements with the Tower, but when I talked to her about Raymond Franz and "the book", she got really troubled and her reaction from that point on was to show me that she now has a strong renewed faith.
So, yes, we gotta be careful with whom we share our thoughts and how.

Changes at NY Bethel
by architect inlast dec 2005, the ny bethel gave talks indicating that they had to downsize (word is mine) due to "improved technology" and that as a result of this simplification some bethel family members would be invited to serve in the united states field in various assignments at various congregations where the excellent training they have recieved at bethel could be put to use and contribute much to the preaching and disciple making work.. what do you make of this?.
i wonder how they would determine who stays or goes?.
are there any former bethel members out there who can comment on rather this would be an easy transistion for those who have to leave?.

"At this time, I would like to extend my warm and heartfelt thanks to that young lady who helped sink my Bethel aspirations by taking off her shirt."
Czar, very very interesting, isn't it?
If you see her again, please give her a tight and prolonged hug. She deserves it!

I hope lurkers here realize how significant this is. We, especially those with 20+ years in the "troof", know what the WT has always said about growth. During the years, they have clearly linked numerical growth with Jah's blessings. What do we now see? Lay-offs and the selling of kingdom halls. That doesn't look like growth to me. Remember the waters of Babi, the Great, that would dry out? Well, Babi is alive and well. The Society's waters is what is drying out. Observador.

2007 IKEA catalogue controversy
by Scully inhttp://www.ctv.ca/servlet/articlenews/story/ctvnews/20060825/ikea_photo_060825/20060825?hub=world.
this sounds strangely similar to janet jackson's "wardrobe failure" publicity stunt.
is it a dog's leg?

People naturally have the ability to see whatever they want. What amazes me the most, though, is how easely some will convince others of what they saw. Sorry, folks, but looking at the enlarged image, I couldn't make anything of it. Observador.

All is well here in the far northeast!
Will he confess he 'made an ass of himself' like Ratherfraud did? Wait, wait, I hope he doesn't. If he does, his followers will certainly say "what a great humble servant of God...".
