The moment I read this I had to look it up - I couldn't understand how I could have missed this... then I saw it. Round and about the scripture name upon name is rattled off. Anytime I ran into a paragraph like this in the bible I skipped it. This totally blew me away! Thanks Farkel!
when i was still active, i asked an elder and his wife once about some of the society's policies on child abuse both emotional and physical.
now, this is way back in '93, way before silentlambs and all the media attention.
they both agreed the policies were backwards and should include more professional counseling.
Many elder have left - even Ray Franz, GB, wrote a book exposing the falsehoods and the crisis of conscience. IMHO, this has no effect on those who wish to remain suckling. Don't forgot, those of who left are labelled "weak" "disobedient" "rebellious" etc.
I've had conversations like you described when I was in. These folks are still in (hmmm, the use of the word "folks" jolts my mind to the Reasoning Book... like who really ever uses this word?!?!?)

I imagine myself there, assessing this discovery (scratching my head and furrowing my brow as I concentrate on the evidence)... I focus on the "debri" and "wood - some petrified". Ahhh, a clue. Only a great global flood could kill a Allosaurus leaving it in this position with the evidience of its demise in tact.
i am employed with the federal government and we are a new branch so we are in the midst of setting up donations for charity to be donated through our paychecks.
anyway, i volunteered to be a coordinator for the cfc (combined federal campaign) in which i was encouraging people to give some out of their paycheck to a charity of their choice..i have to admit i had flashbacks of being in field service while doing this..lol
i will say that i asked a few jw's that worked there and they didn't give *knows where their money goes.
This is one of the first things I did as an ex-dub. I've donated both time and money. I've organized events to raise funds. I've directed my donations to "health" organizations/causes because our family has been effected by health problems. I love it. It makes me feel good to add to society.
I've often wondered why this is such a big "no-no"... is it unspoken? Was there ever an article discouraging giving to charities? I don't know of any active dubs who have ever given,

just curious... for those of you that are "out" and you're lucky (oops, bad word) enough to still have some family talk to you, how do you cope with their hope.. namely, the hope they hold out of your returning to the fold.
do they hint at it, pressure you, etc.
I'm trying to get ready to go out for a big breakfast... I have this cool little resturant across the street and they make the most amazing food.
But, back to the topic... I've been through the hardest part - hurting them. I'm doing whats right for me, and I've lost alot of family. Every so often though, the "encouraging" pops up in conversations. I hate it! I ignore it, and don't respond to them, nor do I give any false hope... its just very irritating. Part of me just wishes that they would fully accept that I'm out (DF'd) and leave it at that. But I guess their mentality holds out a small hope that I'll "wake up" and hit "rock bottom" and come back. Thing is, I hit rock bottom when I was "in". Its been all up hill since!

i have been posting on this board on and off for about two years now.
it has been a tremendous help to me to read other people's experiences, to laugh, cry and just plain identify.
however, something weird is going on with me in the last six months and i am totally freaked out.
I've felt the same as you... the joy and freedom of being released from "spiritual bondage", however with that release also comes the time to face death. This is something that as a born and raised JW, I never had to deal with ("I was going to live forever"). The reality of death just didn't touch my soul. I do believe that there is something to be said for "belief" - its a coping mechanism. My own spiritual evolution/development has brought me to a place where I'm not sure I believe in "God". With that said I have found myself in need of prayer at times, and I've prayed to help myself (what can it hurt??? If he's there, I believe he listens - if not, well then the comfort I've found at the time was still worthwhile). I chose to hope in a "life after death". What form that takes, I have no idea. I tend to feel that life itself is a cycle (like air, water, etc) and perhaps our "life force" takes on a new form. I hope our conciousness remains with it. Nonetheless, I appreciate everyday of life and live it as though there is nothing afterwards.
Death is a difficult reality, but there is not one person who has escaped it. Even the two perfect men mentioned in the bible, Adam and Jesus, didn't escape it. If forming a hope in the afterlife assists the day-to-day living, then in my opinion, no harm is done. I've read of "near death experiences", reincarnation, etc. and the one common thread in all the world's religions is a life after death. Perhaps this is a joint human conciousness - that something survives the physical body.
