  Just remember the theme of the convention everybody: "Keep Seeking First God's Kingdom".

  JeezHovah loves line dances and "worldly" music, especially the Vietnam War protest songs. All of this promotes "The Kingdom"* and will surely bring thousands of people into "The Truth".

  As others have said, I remember the days when a JW couldn't even have a cup of coffee in a KH on a bitterly cold winter morning field service meeting. "Worldly" music for a wedding? Forget it! "Worldly" music while cleaning or working on a KH? Forget it!

  Now WT is endorsing Penetecostal Revivals. I wonder how long before JWs are also 'Holy Rolling" or having Bingo Night? Bake sales?

  * I bet not one JW realizes or cares that no one is out 'preaching for the Kingdom' when they are touring, dancing and listening to concerts instead.

  Something I need to clear up about the bible - It is not a BRONZE AGE BOOK!

  let's be technical.

  the bronze age ended in 1200 bce in devoloped places and later ... aroun 900-800 in other places.

  indeed read 1 samuel 13's ending.. the bible was produced not one tiny bit in the bronze age.

  in barbara anderson's research for the proclaimers book she was tasked with identifying the faithful & discreet slave throughout history.

  the idea was the watchtower could identify a line of kingdom proclaimers from the days of the apostles.

  she was not able to do this with the established criteria, that the individual had to adhere to the basic doctrinal beliefs seperating jw's from "false religion".. it seems that governing body would now agree.

  SOLOMON, AND THE ISRAELITE ABATTOIR King Solomon was a very devout man. He also liked to do things in big ways. Take, for example, the sacrifice that he offered up during a festival:
  “Then the King and all the people offered sacrifice before the LORD. King Solomon offered as a sacrifice twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep.” - 2 Chronicles 7:4,5

  Now, let’s pause for a moment and let these numbers sink in. According to verse 9, this festival lasted seven days. That means that one animal was killed every 4.3 seconds, day and night, for a week.
  Let’s look at it another way. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, an adult sheep would weigh between 80 and 400 pounds. Let’s take an average size of 200 pounds. Oxen come it at around 900 pounds. This means that Solomon slaughtered 43.8 million pounds of animals.
  This would be a pretty big pile of animal. If the animal carcasses were stacked, with no wasted space, it would make a pile of 3.9 million cubic feet, or, a pile 5 feet high, covering 18 acres.
  And what did he do with this meat? Well according to verse 7, he tried to put it on the alter, along with a cereal grain offering.
  “For there he offered the burnt offering and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze alter Solomon had made could not hold the burnt offering and the cereal offering and the fat.” - 2 Chronicles 7:7

  Talk about an understatement. I could picture Solomon, looking at that mountain of meat, and saying to his attendant, “Gee, do you think that’s too much to put on the alter?”
  The sheer volume of meat involved is enough to convince anyone that this passage is grossly exaggerated. I will not even attempt to calculate the economic impact of this slaughter on a relatively poor group of desert farmers.

  I visited Bethel in the 1980's and, as it was explained on our tour, commercial printing companies had toyed with the idea of a MEPS-type system prior to WT, but it was not a commercially viable concept (for-profit coroporations have to actually earn their money and are accountable to shareholders, unlike WT which has no accountability and a book full of blank checks to rely on). As Wikipedia verifies, "worldly" publishers have no reason to print their magazines or books in a gazillion languages, so there's no need to have a system that makes it possible to publish in a gazillion languages.

  WT developed MEPS for its own unique needs, but it added no value to anything else outside of WT.

  Multilanguage Electronic Publishing System

  (MEPS, formerly called Multilanguage Electronic Phototypesetting System[1]) is a system for offset printing in a variety of languages and character sets. The system, completed in 1986, was designed by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.

  The MEPS program is used for laying out written material in different languages with different character sets. The program was designed based on responses from the organization's own translators about each language. Before MEPS there was no system available for printing in many languages, due largely to the economies of many countries where production of literature in their languages was not financially viable.[2]

  VERY short day at the Arlington/Dallas International Convention-My Observations

  okay, some good takeaway:.

  i have never been to a convention quite like this before.

  a very friendly vibe all around, lots of banners and posters with sayings like "sending love to all our brothers", "see you in the paradise", "ecuador sends greetings", and "jehovahs-witness.net" (okay, i lied on that last one...).

  Where are these women and do you have their phone numbers?

  He must be talking about non-JW women. What I've noticed in the Org. is that one food, when eaten, permanently kills a JW woman's sex drive everytime:

All the saints now living, or that have lived during this age, belonged to OUR CHURCH ORGANIZATION: such are all ONE Church, and there is NO OTHER recognized by the Lord. Hence any earthly organization which in the least interferes with this-union of saints is contrary to the teachings of Scripture and opposed to the Lord's will-"that they may be ONE."

  "We always refuse to be called by any other name than that of our Head --Christians--continually claiming that their can be no division among those continually led by his Spirit and example as made known through his Word." Zion’s Watch Tower 1883 Mar p.6

  Since he was opposed to a dictatorial organizational arrangement, he was also opposed to any leader taking away an individual's right to believe according to their conscience:

  Jehovah’s Witnesses recognize that the no personal contact made possible by house-to-house calls is far more effective to keep Jehovah's Witnesses occupied with "busy work". It affords better opportunity to answer the questions not answer any questions of individual householders but refer them to JW.Org and to search out deserving ones only those willing to serve Watchtower.

  Considering how frequently "New Light"™ is affecting WT lately, electronic billboards that can be changed quickly is the only way WT can go...

  .

  @ pixel: I've seen JW ads on TV from time to time...They look a bit like the ones the Mormoms do.

  You mean something like, "I'm a pedophile....and a Jehovah's Witness"?
