  You're quite misinformed if you believe the WTS did not respond to certain members' outcries, even back in the day.

  WT responds only to threats to its public image. It doesn't give a damn about internal rumblings from the R&F. Please post evidence of any major policy change WT has made based on popular opinion among JWs.

  By "certain members", you mean GB members? Your comment reveals that even you do not believe the R&F have much influence.

  As for the Society's "seeing past MJ's $$$ to warn him," nothing of the kind happened. It was the relentless outrage on the part of resentful, working-stiff rank and file JWs that forced their hand.

  I disagree with this. I was good friends with a Ca. CO who was involved with this csae at the time. He told me a little about what DFing MJ was all about. It had nothing to do with the "outrage" of rank and file JWs. Since when in its entire history has WT done anything based on what the R&F want?

  You also have to remember, the WT Organization in the early 1980's (when MJ was disfellowshipped) is not the same organization as it is in 2014. The 2014 2.0 version of WT has no problem with famous JWs doing what MJ did 30 years prior.

  BOTR: I'm not checking but I believe both Conti and this case happened before CA's legislature enacted a mandatory reporting law for clergy. The WTBTS can argue that it had no notice that its behavior would subject it to liability.

  The core of all these judicial proceedings/judgments is based squarely on the fact that WT policies encourage non-reporting of these sex crimes, regardless of whether a specific law requires them to or not. The fact that WT advises elders to keep these matters "in house", instead of alerting the authorities, and WT adds insult to injury by disciplining victims who do choose to contact the authorities, is what the court recognizes. The Conti case clearly demonstrated that Watchtower policies are the problem, and the court ruled accordingly.

  BOTR...for someone who "doesn't have time" to read anything, you sure have strong opinions. A lawyer who doesn't bother reading court documents...go figure.

  Actually, notice the suble use of "Jehovah's Witnesses" in the statement. They are the WatchTower Bible and Tract Society - but they try to shift the focus onto their believers instead of their legally registered and legally responsible corporation

  WT has always done this. They did it in 1914, 1919, 1925 and 1975 with regard to failed prophecies; they've done it when the rank-and-file follow orders...then WT waffles on those same policies to leave JWs twisting in the wind; and now, WT hangs its own absurd corporate decisions and policies regarding pedophiles around the neck of "Jehovah's Witnesses"...the same people who have zero say in anything this religion does.

  The current methodology is business-as-usual for WT...a 100 year tradition of passing the buck.

  Meeting for not paying assembly fees???!!!!

  hey folks......has anyone else heard of, or experienced this before?.

  i visited by parents over the weekend and accompanied them to their assembly....same rubbish spoken about since ive been born....obey the gb, donate your last penny, no education and be a pushover.. anyways, our assembly hall has lush vegetation and scenery, so i was more focused on that....i started dozing off after lunch, so got up and went walking, saw some older folks from the congregation i grew up with.. upon the conclusion of the assembly, wed normally leave out right after the prayer ends so as to avoid the traffic.

  however, for this assembly he told me that hes gonna be a few minutes with the elders and branch representatives...so a few minutes turned into an hour..

  I wish JWs would wake up and start voting with their wallets...the only real power they'll ever have in WT Land.

  No money to pay for an Ass Hall? So, what.

  JWs will be consigned to sitting in a hot, old stadium? Not if they vote with their feet and don't show up.

  Eventually WT would get the message: $0 balance building funds and empty stadiums...that would send a message.

  Discipline those not conforming by DF or other means? That just contributes to even more people leaving the religion...and less donations.

  JWs fail to realize how much power they really have.
