  Actually, those who watched world events knew a war would break out in a big way in Europe decades before it happened- not a matter of if, but when. Otto von Bismarck was one such person. Incidentally, CT Russell predicted nothing resembling the events that actually transpired in 1914.

  Last warning and prediction

  In December 1897, Wilhelm II visited Bismarck for the last time. Bismarck again warned the Kaiser about the dangers of improvising government policy based on the intrigues of courtiers and militarists. Bismarck's last warning was:

  Your Majesty, so long as you have this present officer corps, you can do as you please. But when this is no longer the case, it will be very different for you.

  Subsequently, Bismarck made this prediction:

  "Jena came twenty years after the death of Frederick The Great; the crash will come twenty years after my departure if things go on like this" ― a prophecy fulfilled a little late when, twenty four years after his resignation as Chancellor, World War 1 began in August 1914.

  "Europe today is a powder keg and the leaders are like men smoking in an arsenal ... A single spark will set off an explosion that will consume us all ... I cannot tell you when that explosion will occur, but I can tell you where ... Some damned foolish thing in the Balkans will set it off."

  For years it was thought that the Balkans would be the epicenter of a European wide conflict ("those damned Balkans" as Bismarck called them). Foreign offices even figured how it was going to happen: the Germans would let the Austrians go unchecked and Russia would refuse to lose face by allowing it. When the Balkan Wars erupted in 1912, administrators held their breath, but the fact that they were contained to the Balkans was a source of optimism for the doomsday predictors (James Joll in "The Mood of 1914" makes a good case for this).

  For all of WT's posturing against the Catholic Church, it is the height of hypocrisy to then adopt concepts of the CC that have become the foundation of WT's theology:

  > the name "Jehovah" is a Catholic invention

  > disfellowshipping (excomminucation)

  > WT has no problem using the Bible canon compiled by the CC

  > hierarchical church structure

  If the CC is, and was, "apostate" Christianity as WT claims, then why does WT copy so much of what the CC does? And WT has no problem referring to Catholic sources as an authority...when these sources agree with WT's thinking.

  Of course, what the 2014 KM ignores, and what WT has ignored for decades, is that for nearly 60 years WT proclaimed Jesus' presence began in 1874, not 1914:

  Surely there is not the slightest room for doubt in the mind of a truly consecrated child of God that the Lord Jesus is present and has been since 1874.

  So what is the rationalisation for saying That the kingdom was specifically to Begin in october 1914?

  explanation: the irrational exhuberance of CT Russell built upon the irrational exhuberance of the Adventists.

  I guess October is the wrong month to stop sniffing glue.

  Service Meeting Adjustment w/c 1st September

  probably nothing of major note but there is an adjustment to the service meeting of w/c 1st september to allow for a 15 min local needs the society have asked the elders to deliver.

  this is in uk and i've no idea if it affects other regions.. if it's uk only then i suspect it's either specifically about donations or more likely the status of the new branch facility, asking for volunteers/money.

  given that the elder delivering it in our hall is prominent on the local rbc then i suspect the latter.. .

  This is exactly the point Fundies fail to see.

  If their god is so loving, so superior and therefore worthy of worship, why didn't he/she raise humans' morality and higher consciousness rather than stoop to the same level as humans and perpetuate the problems that already existed?

  "Historical context" is a lame copout to excuse the inexcusable.

  I read nothing in your reference that came even close to being "reasoned".

  Unless, of course, you're a fundamentalist Christian and throw all humanity out the window to support your dickhead OT god...then almost anything becomes 'reasonable'.
