"Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light ‐ years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. So are our emotions in the presence of great art or music or literature, or acts of exemplary selfless courage such as those of Mohandas Gandhi or Martin Luther King, Jr. The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive does a disservice to both." -- Carl Sagan

"Get Over My Doubts & Keep Going Like Everything Is OK!!"
No doubt some on the Titanic may have said the same thing...
He then told me "what is the big deal" just going to meetings & participating also go out in service once in a while.
What do JWs tell people of other religions when they realize their religion is B.S.? In no uncertain terms, JWs tell them that they must leave their religion immediately in order to "please god". Yet, when it comes to their own religion, suddenly JWs have a million and one reasons to pretend nothing is wrong, toe the line, stay to the WT routine no matter how many doubts they hold.
Unadulterated hypocrisy in its purest form.

Dirty penguins and filthy seals
by konceptual99 ini had never come across this research into sexually depraved penguins ..... http://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/jun/09/sex-depravity-penguins-scott-antarctic.
...until i saw this about what some seals get up to.... http://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/seals-caught-having-sex-penguins.
maybe it's something they learnt on their long journey back from the ark?.

PhilJ: At least the penguin was a living creature. My dog has violated everything [in] the house that remains still for more than 20 seconds.
This is why I won't ever go to your house for dinner again, Phil. I felt so cheap by the time I left.
LOL.

FDS & G.B. TEACHING DESTROYED
by The Searcher incredit to vidqun for the direction given.. the watchtower november 15th qfr http://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/w20141115/ blows the selection process/timing/individuals clean out of the water!.
simply put, ask any witness these questions:.
who is represented by the 'two witnesses' in revelation chapter 7?

L_Q: So, let's count backward 1,260 days from June 21, 1918. Does it result in "the end of 1914?" Not at all! It brings us to January 8, 1915. Another lie.
Actually counting always messes up these "prophecies".

How Do You Answer Someone Who Says JWs Are Not False Prophets?

how do you prove that witnesses are indeed, false prophets?.

Christ's invisible presence since 1914 I'll leave for now - I'm feeling generous. Strictly speaking, it can't be proved one way or the other.
The Adventists used the same ploy when their 1844 prophecy, Re: Christ would return in the flesh in that year, and it didn't pan out. They then came up with the explanation: He DID return- it just happened invisibly.
Such is the case with "invisible" events...no way to prove it. Works great for quack religions seeking gullible slaves.

It is a house built on sand!
You just described WT's entire theology, not just the teaching about the "two witnesses".

H-W: You are obligated to immediately believe and embrace any doctrine or prediction they publish, even if there is no basis to support it, but when that doctrine clashes with reality and has to be modified, they are ready to be infallible all over again.
As Freddie Franz finally admitted on the witness stand, after much resistance, in the 1954 Douglas Walsh trial, "unity" in belief for JWs is the prime concern, not truth. All JWs must accept the error of current WT teachings in order to be unified. In other words, they all have to be wrong as a group in order to be right with Jehovah. Incidentally, Franz also stated that Jehovah is the "editor" of WT literature, not men, which re-opens the Pandora's Box of circular, "we aren't false prophets", arguments.
Truly an ironic stance from a religion that calls itself "The Truth". Shouldn't truth and facts be the prime concern, not unified wrongness??
MASH: I am trapped in a lift with a plain clothed JW, I did not notice the JW.ORG pin on his casual shirt
But surely, you would've also seen his JW.Org tote bag, umbrella, ruler, cuff links, necktie, notepad, and iPad screensaver even if you missed the lapel pin, right? LOL.

The only conclusion we can arrive at is: all of Watchtower's false prophecies/failed dates are god's fault:
.
The Watchtower, March 1st , 1965 p. 151 Basis for Reliance on Prophecy
"The best method of proof is to put a prophecy to the test of time and circumstances. The Bible invites such a test. "The Watchtower is not the instrument of any man or any set of men, nor is it published according to the whims of men. No man's opinion is expressed in the Watchtower".
.
"Jehovah's Witnesses, in their eagerness for Jesus second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect. Because of this some have called them false prophets. Never in these instances, however, did they presume to originate predictions ' in the name of Jehovah '. Never did they say, ' These are the words of Jehovah'." (AWAKE! 22. March 1993) (note: notice how when things go south, suddenly it's not Watchtower's fault but "Jehovah's Witnesses" fault as a group).
Oh, really?
> "This chronology is not of man but of God . . . of divine origin . . . absolutely and unqualifiedly correct." --Watchtower 7/15/1922, p.217
> "Jehovah's prophetic word through Christ Jesus is: "This generation [of 1914] will by no means pass away until all things occur." (Luke 21:32) And Jehovah, who is the source of inspired and unfailing prophecy, will bring about the fulfillment of his Son's words in a relatively short time." (Watchtower 15. March 1984, p. 6 [brackets theirs!])
> In the November 15, 1955 Watchtower President Knorr went so far as to say that God was the One who was responsible for the preaching of Rutherford’s message ! Under the heading, "Jehovah Is In His Holy Temple" it says …
Stirring up increasing interest in them, Jehovah caused to be preached from 1918 the startling public message, "Millions Now Living Will Never Die."

> The date of the close of that 'battle' is definitely marked in Scripture as October, 1914. It is already in progress, its beginning dating from October, 1874.
Zion's Watch Tower, 15 January 1892, page 1355> We see no reason for changing the figures--nor could we change them if we would. They are, we believe, God's dates, not ours. But bear in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date for the beginning, but for the end of the time of trouble.
Zion's Watch Tower, 15 July 1894, page 1677> The Scriptures show that the second presence [of the Lord] was due in 1874 . . . . This proof shows that the Lord has been present since 1874.
--The Watch Tower, 1 March 1923, page 67> Surely there is not the slightest room for doubt in the mind of a truly consecrated child of God that the Lord Jesus is present and has been since 1874.
--The Watch Tower, 1 January 1924, page 5> jv chap. 5 pp. 46-47 Proclaiming the Lord’s Return (1870-1914)
Russell later stated, "he had much to learn from me on the fulness of restitution based upon the sufficiency of the ransom given for all, as I had much to learn from him concerning time." Barbour succeeded in convincing Russell that Christ’s invisible presence had begun in 1874.
> "We have no doubt whatever in regard to the chronology relating to the dates of 1874, 1914, 1918, and 1925. It was on this line of reckoning that the dates 1874, 1914, and 1918 were located; and the Lord has placed the stamp of his seal upon 1914 and 1918 beyond any possibility of erasure. What further evidence do we need? Using this same measuring line.... it is an easy matter to locate 1925, probably in the fall, for the beginning of the antitypical jubilee. There can be no more question about 1925 than there was about 1914." (Watchtower, p. 150, May 15, 1922)
Time for some waffle:
"We did not say positively that this would be the year."

If you ask any JW what prophecies the WTS has made / got right then they will invariable say something about predicting 1914.
Plagiarized from the Adventists.
So, at best, WT can only claim they proclaimed a false prophecy already proclaimed (also failed) by another false religion.
And, as you said Simon, everything WT now attaches to the 1914 date was originally taught as occuring starting in 1874. 1914 was supposed to be Armageddon, not the beginning of the Last Days.
